You have to watch the full video to find out you don’t have all the necessary equipment....put all the things you need in the beginning...what type of harness should I get
I got the SSFD11 wiring harness from stinger select I got from auto zone which uses all 3 of the radio connectors. This is essential if you had a shaker system and you want to reuse your stock amp. All the wires are labeled so it's very easy to do yourself.
Haha yea I nearly bit off more than I could chew myself with this install. The bulk of it is simple, but connecting that wiring harness to the harness adapter kit/the factory harness and cables is a bit of a trip. Definitely don't regret the upgrade though, I love this headunit and the backup camera is always nice. Thanks for watching man 🖐
When I installed my head unit, taking off the connections on the climate controls was the hardest part, and those damn butt connectors were chunked. Having a friend who installs radios for a living helps. Hang in there, the mods will get easier to do.
Yea honestly some of those wires can be real difficult to disconnect if you don't have much experience with em. I know the bottom left clip nearly broke my finger the first time around haha. Thanks for the encouragement man ✊
For sure. I could have definitely prepped more beforehand, and I could have probably figured it out if I spent even longer working at it myself. However, being the imperfect human being and content creator that I am, I chose to get the wiring buttoned up by professionals. That being said, I don't think my actions warrant you to come off as a "I'm better than you" keybaord warrior. Regardless, kudos to you for being more technically adept than me; though I would hope that with age comes knowledge, after all.
Put a Pioneer in my 2005 Mustang while keeping the power amps from the Shaker 500. Sounds great. The original sounded fine but the double din Pioneer made a huge difference.
Next time buy a $5 antenna cable extension. Makes it really easy to reach the other side. Also the parking brake wire can just be connected directly to the Black ground wire in the wiring harness kit. All of the wires don’t have to be used in the harness, especially because it fits other models of cars as well. Just a friendly FYI for you. Great vid👍🏾
Yea if I had known better I definitely would have picked up a cable extension; but to any others tackling this install I would highly recommend such a product as well haha. As for the E-Brake wire, I had no clue it could just be grounded out to the harness and that's it... It's super easy for a newbie to get overwhelmed once they see that harness haha, if only I was able to livestream it to have some of you guys (like yourself) talk some sense into me and help me through it right then and there! I actually ran it right under the passenger side plastic side panel fin (the two fins that slide straight forward and off once you remove the center console piece), facing downward. I have it so that ONLY the usb port is exposed, and my cord is perfect length to reach my phone holder so it's great. That area is really nice and snug for the cord and doesn't pinch it at all so it works perfectly. If I had the community tab feature unlocked for my channel, I would have uploaded a picture to show you. Hope this helps!
Hey man I love the video. I recently bought a new touch screen stereo with apple car play for my 05 mustang but it has a usb cord on the back but I have no where to run it? Got any fixes?
Thanks man, but yes mine has the usb connection on the back too. I ran it under the center console plastic trim but on the passenger side. I let a small amount of the wire actually be exposed there so i can plug my phone in to use android auto. By running the wire through here, it doesnt damage the wire at all and looks very very clean.
Hi! I was wondering if you’ve had an issues with this head unit? Does the apple carplay work great?? I’m thinking about getting this for my 2005 Mustang 🤗
I've had no issues yet since I installed it. The only thing is that rarely the bluetooth connection will be choppy if I keep my phone in my left pocket, but when that happens I just put my phone in my phone holder which is closer to the head unit and then my music stops jittering. Also the mic that comes with it could be better quality. Aside from that 0 issues, android auto works everytime once it's plugged in. Haven't tried apple carplay since both myself and my wife own android.
If you're going for a double din radio it has to be the same size as the one in this video, which is 6.8" (up to 7" will fit I believe). Most double din head units are this size though which helps a lot. Newer ones are being made though with much bigger screens.
No, for wireless carplay/android auto the price of headunits jumps up about $300+ (so about $750+ for a wireless unit). That's what I found when I researched, and for me the wireless feature was not worth the extra money. This one has android auto via usb, can't remember if it has apple carplay but a quick google search should tell you.
I have a question cause I actually wanna do this to my 09. If I manage to get a screen like yours or similar, does the screen affect the cars battery? Like does the battery drain faster or anything or does it come with a cost towards the car in any way???
Not at all! The only way you might notice any difference is if your car's electricals are already in bad shape; but even then I don't think it would make any difference. It's a perfectly harmless mod assuming you do the install correctly. Have fun!
@@OctaneStreet and another question, if I can't find that specific stereo screen, how would I know which one would fit the car?? Cause I know there's different sizes but idk if they mean by the touch screen itself instead of the whole screen body with frame if that makes sense 🙁🙁
You should have some brackets and screws that when put together keep your headunit in place inside the cage to prevent it from sloping or falling, etc. This is assuming I'm understanding your issue correctly.
@@mchvac9995 It wouldn't come with your radio, it would come with the bracket kit you purchase. All aftermarket radios require a cage type thing (the name of it is escaping me right now) that actually holds the radio in place properly. It's shown in the video, and I have the links for everything I used in the description and in a comment.
To be honest i'm not too sure. I'd say to keep an eye on it for a while, maybe a month or two and if it doesn't restock I think you'll have your answer. Best of luck brother.
Awesome video man. Dropping this same radio into my wife’s 07 Mustang tomorrow. Already have all the wiring connected to the harness and I’m ready to plug and play once I take the car apart. My first time messing around with wiring so your video gave me an idea on what to expect.
Glad this video was able to assist you at least a little! Your wife is definitely going to enjoy the new Stereo, its one of the best things I've done to the car 👊
Thanks I wanted to update my mom’s 05 mustang and I was wondering if one of these multimedia receivers would fit well and look right in the car, but it looks great. I’m sure she will be hyped!
For sure. It fits beautifully and if you get the right one will come with the some very modern and handy features. Also, shout outs to your mom for driving such a dope car 👊 Haha
I have it coming down the passenger side of the center console panel. Doesn't kink the wire at all and is super easily accessible in that location. Kind of hard to explain exactly how I have it though, but it's real neat.
I installed that same stereo myself in a 2014 camry... but it took me many hours of research to figure out the wiring. Might be worth the $200 to get someone else to do everything.
Lmfao i'm real glad that i'm not the only one who struggled with the wiring on this thing. Much too out of my element, and now that it's all setup and finished I've run into another problem 👌 Alternator Whine due most likely to a bad/poor ground 🙃
No sir, and it won't as long as you keep the settings relatively stock and don't blast the volume to max. If you do you can def blow out the speakers. This headunit is much more capable than the stocker.

Can any gps radio fit on these mustangs or do u have to find the right size. I dint want to buy one and then not fit
If you're going for a double din radio it has to be the same size as the one in this video, which is 6.8" (up to 7" will fit I believe). Most double din head units are this size though which helps a lot. Newer ones are being made though with much bigger screens.
@@OctaneStreet okay thanks do i also need to but the custom fit case to help install the radio since it might be different size
does apple carplay work wirelessly
My radio just leans back into the hole...how do I hold it up
You should have some brackets and screws that when put together keep your headunit in place inside the cage to prevent it from sloping or falling, etc. This is assuming I'm understanding your issue correctly.
@@OctaneStreet Aww ok I thought that..My radio didn’t come with a bracket 🤦🏾
@@mchvac9995 It wouldn't come with your radio, it would come with the bracket kit you purchase. All aftermarket radios require a cage type thing (the name of it is escaping me right now) that actually holds the radio in place properly. It's shown in the video, and I have the links for everything I used in the description and in a comment.
Look up your car then “double din dash kit” for example “2008 Ford Mustang double din dash kit “ and it will pop right up
@@OctaneStreet ^
How many inches is the dash
Can't remember off the top but I wanna say 8"? A quick google search should tell you.
I’m trying to buy this but it is out of stock everywhere. Do they restock these? Or are they like once they’re gone they’re gone type thing?
To be honest i'm not too sure. I'd say to keep an eye on it for a while, maybe a month or two and if it doesn't restock I think you'll have your answer. Best of luck brother.
@@OctaneStreet thanks man
@@OctaneStreet just giving u an update so if anyone asks in the future. They just got restocked
Your wife is definitely going to enjoy the new Stereo, its one of the best things I've done to the car 👊
nice vid man
Thank you sir !
Where is your USB port?
I have it coming down the passenger side of the center console panel. Doesn't kink the wire at all and is super easily accessible in that location. Kind of hard to explain exactly how I have it though, but it's real neat.
I installed that same stereo myself in a 2014 camry... but it took me many hours of research to figure out the wiring. Might be worth the $200 to get someone else to do everything.
I did not do the parking break bypass... that's another can of worms. seems like the new pioneers makes it more difficult
Lmfao i'm real glad that i'm not the only one who struggled with the wiring on this thing. Much too out of my element, and now that it's all setup and finished I've run into another problem 👌 Alternator Whine due most likely to a bad/poor ground 🙃
Has the stereo burnt out yet?
No sir, and it won't as long as you keep the settings relatively stock and don't blast the volume to max. If you do you can def blow out the speakers. This headunit is much more capable than the stocker.
Kept it real , cool video too
Thanks man I really appreciate that, I try my best haha 👊
I subbed even though I have a v6 06:*
Thanks for subbing homie, I appreciate that and welcome! :) Ain't nothin wrong with a v6 :)
Ah i see those Trinidad and Tobago decor fellow trini? 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
