Bodybuilder vs Pro Cyclist | Tour de France Breakfast Challenge

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 ก.ค. 2024
- Tour de France riders consume an average of 8,000 calories per day, per stage. At 1.96m and 130kg, Jamie Christian, aka the Giant is used to crushing these kinds of calorific intakes, consuming about 6,500 calories during training, not to mention the 11,000 calories required during a bulking phase. But inside those calories, the foods and nutrition required is very different. So, we're swapping out the breakfasts to see how Hank and Jamie handle it.

What food and drink do you consume to prepare your body for a big ride? Let us know in the comments 👇
Oatmeal porridge (100g oats, 3.5% fat milk 200g) with tsp of honey or 50g of jam. Which converts roughly to 650KCal. Followed by cappuccino and one espresso additionally. So not that much for 100km. Normally take a glucose gel and stop on the middle for a pastry with another coffee.
4-5 sausages in the morning and I'm ready to go for 100km ride.
The evening before, its a good bowl of pasta and chicken. The morning of the ride, it's either granola and yoghurt or porridge.
I eat normally, but 30mins before a ride, I'll gulp down a coffee and sprite, separately of course! Food and rest stops are plentiful here, so there is no real need to bring food on the bike, just stop and eat.
Oatmeal & bananas every time.
Loved being on the channel guys, let's make round 3 happen !!!!
Hank would have to carry his body weight twice to equal yours. Is he getting a trailer hitch for his Orbea to pull a trolley with Ollie inside to cheer him on?
Hope to see you back soon. Great video!
We'll cook something up for sound 3... 100 miles? 👀
keep coming back. Great addition to the GCN videos with a fun sense of humor.
Jamie is fantastic with Hank
Big yes to the hill challenge - I hope that happens soon!
I definitely want to see these two again!
Jamie is one of the most entertaining and erudite non-cycling guests you've had on the channel. Bring on the hill challenge I say.
Dont know why, Hank feels like the most relatable of all the presenters. Also these two are great together. Need to see that hill climb video
I love the whole crew, but my favourites are Conor and Manon actually.
He's a man on the people 🤣
They both had great chemistry really enjoyed the video just got back into cycling myself
Every time GCN brings in an athlete from a non-cycling discipline for a challenge, the video never fails to amaze me and make me smile/laugh throughout. This video is no exception. So very enjoyable.
Loved this video, Jamie is such a nice person a great sport for taking part in this. He rides with the same club as me and did our track day a few weeks ago, I got paired with him in our head to head sprint challenge, he has some serious power output!
Hahahaha that's awesome! How did you do in the sprint?
@@gcn I’d like to say I smashed him 😂 It was at Darley Moor racetrack in Derbyshire. We were actually pretty well matched, we did two uphill and one downhill sprint and all three were photo finishes.
I’m up for a rematch if you guys want to film it 😎
Loving this bromance. Here’s hoping for the 6k+ likes!
It made me feel kind of uncomfortable seeing how they could not keep their hands off each other. If Hank was interviewing a female and did that you would say he crossed a line.
@@Zeurdan But it wasn't a "female" ...
Love these light hearted videos, and would love to see that hill challenge between these two very soon 😍
Name the hill we're there 🙌
Like twins. Arni and Devito 😂😂
Jamie's idea was golden, I can only send 1 like though.
It’s ok I added to it
We'll take this as 2 likes
@@gcn does liking that reply make it three? 😉
This was a brilliant, fun, silly, informative video!!! Jamie and Hank just chatting like old mates while stuffing themselves was fantastic content!
Loved this video.
Jamie and Hank are like brothers, lol!!! Just like De Vito and Schwarzenegger in Twins, hahaha!
Great seeing Jamie again! It's refreshing to have someone that isn't a cyclist per say but can provide some insight in various other health/physical related activities. Can't wait to see that hill climb video!
160 kilos!! Jamie is a great sport on your challenges. The track test episode was legend.
Excellent Video Hank! yes more with Jamie and maybe take him on his first 100 mile ride!!
We like the sound of that! 👀
We want more videos with Jamie😂
As someone who came from a bodybuilding background and is now leaning into endurance sports (a very popular buzz atm) can I just say these videos are some of my favourite GCN puts out! And I’ve been subscribed for years!
It's cool that strength athletes are starting to realise that cardio can be a lot more than just the stuff you need to go through while cutting.
We all love Hank, but for this food video with Jamie, Oliver would be the most suitable GCN presenter. It would be "Jamie Oliver"
Gordon Ramsay would be good given he does triathlon etc
the toilet outro, haha!
"The Giant" seems like such a lovely person!
"I'm literally not the biggest fan of eating" I wish I was like that haha.
One of the most entertaining videos to watch. I am not sure who laughed more, Hank or me.
And absolutely yes to the hill challenge.
When GCN released the first video with Hank, one comment greeted him with words like "GCN got muscles".
GCN turning into Beardmeatsfood.... :)
"I eat really just to fuel" such an English thing to say haha, this kind of perspective is always amusing from a French viewer's point of view XD
Hahahah we're not all like that 😉
Great video guys ✌
I don't think the 60kg riders are eating 8k calories a day...
Ok. I want the cherry bakewell slice.😂 Absolutely agree that fueling (and fuel choice) is a full time job in itself. Like Hank, I under-fuel, but learned the hard way by paying the price in competition (bonked miserably). Definitely want to see the hill challenge and bicep routine!!👍💪
lol as a bigger rider I love seeing content that feels inviting to riders who don’t look like Tour de France riders, and dont intend to.
Glad you enjoyed this one 🙌
That was exactly what I was missing from the last bodybuilder vs. cyclist video: Balance out the weight and race on equal terms! (with Jamie who also trained his base aerobic fitness this might be even more challenging then!)
Bring Blake Samson into this mix! Part of the hill climb has to be off-road. Blake also has to eat Jamie's meal and calorie intake! Blake, Hank and Jamie!
2nd video with Jamie and what a top bloke, Hank is always funny so Chapeau boys
Just two lads having breakfast. What a lovely video :D
10/10 for the bants!! Loved the video.
I thought I saw Jamie and indeed it was him, what a fun surpise!! Thanks very much gents!
We love filming with Jamie 🎉
Jamie is an absolute beast and super fun. Great video.
Always fun filming with Jamie!
I was feeling the pregnant woman's frustration waiting behind you while you two princess ordered your breakfasts.
Another vote for the big hill challenge!
We'll see what we can do 👀
Great chemistry between Hank and Jamie 🙌🏼
Always fun filming with these two! Should we get hims back on the channel soon?
Hank has bigger biceps than I was expecting.
He's been working on it 😉
As a bodybuilder myself, even tho just amateur and not on the dose of Steroids an Open Level Bodybuilder is on, eating 5000-8000 Calories in carbs is so much easier than consuming it overall and getting 300-500g of Protein in as well.
Because protein is keeping you so damn full that it becomes hard to eat at some point.
those two are comedic gold together
Looks like the beginning of a bromance 😂
Check out the Guns on Hank. Loved the video guys.
Did not expect to see Jamie in this video once I clicked into it. Such a likeable fellow.
wow the hills idea is great
We'll see what we can cook up 🧑🍳
So cool to see Jamie on this channel….
Its cool the body builder has become the homie
Next episode: Hank start Jamie cycle :D
Love these light heart when is hank going body building awesome gents 😊
Reckon if you’d put Si’s ankles against Jamies’s biceps there’d have been a closer match than Hank’s biceps. ❤
loved this . Would be really interesting to see the same video but with a vegan body builder
My Secret to 100 Miles is Actually a Full English Breakfast, Toast x 2 Fried Bread x 1 x Bacon x 3 Sausage x 2 Black pudding, Beans, Mushrooms, Tomato's, 1 pint of orange juice, followed by 1 pint of crushed ice water.
Contains all the fuel sources required fats, carbs, protein, salts,
Vitamins and minerals you need.
No Energy Drinks, or Energy Gels Required Just Water.
Man the bodybuilding days .. what a pleasure it was. Training arms for 1 hour and then devouring some food post workout. Good life. Now we suffer for hours to an end and have to eat energy gels and bars on the bike.
👍🏻
I’ve done my part towards the hill climb challenge. 😂
Thanks! Watch this space 👀
Type 1 diabetic here.
Fueling starts the night before with a high carb meal. Breakfast is 100g porridge or 4 weetabix
On the bike snack every 20-30 minutes on a few jelly babies or cereal bar depending on efforts and 2 bottles of drink on bike. 1 bottle with 120g of white sugar mixed with squash and the other bottle normal squash.
As you can see I consume a lot of carbs as a T1D but on the bike it’s all fuel. I carry my injection with me just in case it creeps up a little but most of the time on a 120km ride the bloods stay just where I need them to be to be energized
@@thediabeticcyclist4936 You probably know a great deal more about what your body is doing, where your blood sugar levels are, and what your A1C is, and how much fuel you actually need more than anyone with a fully functional pancreas.
GCI should do a series of segments on nutrition, ending with a sports nutritionist. Look at what normies, T1, T2, hypoglycaemics etc. need to prepare, ride, and recover.
@@paulgrimshaw8334 best diet for T1 etc is the best diet for everyone looking to be lean and healthy. High carb low fat low protein.
More of these 👍
Any ideas?
@@gcn The big man 💪could fight against GCN on an illegal E-bike 🤔
Maybe the big diesels who are pulling the peloton along nearly all day might need 8000kcal a day but the sub 60kg GC guys definitely don't! During a 5hr stage, they might burn 3000kcal and their BMR would be around 1500kcal so they only need 4500kcal for the day. If it's a flat sprinters day, the GC guys are literally coasting all day so probably only need 3000kcal on those days. Remember they're basically laying down when they're not on the bike.
Hanks biceps is not so bad to be honest with you.
Please make that uphill battle happen. That would be the best video on the channel ever.
Hank is 170cm?
Good portions, You look taller \m/ I am 170cm, looking like a dwarf at 78kg, short legs, strong torso-upper body
I'm 170cm too but 870mm from saddle to mid axle.... short stocky body, huge head(63cm)....(hard to find a bike with XS reach and L Stack!!!)
@@barrycorney3665You could use a S frame with a long stem, I'm kinda the same haha
Hear me out: Hank and Blake both bag/strap up to Jamies weight and do a gravel track loop!
Hell yeah get on that hillclimb challenge!
Any hills you can think of? 👀
I do believe Hank has eaten enough to last a week! LOL!
Jamie's totally hilarious and a great presenter! I have to say, though, this was a pretty uneven competition. How could "little" Hank handle Jamie's big breakfast? Need to get Conor in on the action!!
Would have been too easy for Conor! We would have to challenge Jamie to to try Conor's breakfast 🤣
Jaime is awesome! bring it on!
that was absolutely hilarious, and i would love to see Jamie back on for a bike challenge, and Hank doing an arm workout :D
would love to see Jamie sprint on a track bike!
Your wish is our comand 👉th-cam.com/video/TFrhj5MxPyU/w-d-xo.html
Come on guys we’re nearly at 6k likes let’s get Jamie back on. 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍💪
YAY!
You should’ve brought a Marathon runner as well
Nice video
ok 1) Hank's biceps actually pretty decent, 2) @10:14 getting proper "Twins" Danny DeVito & Arnie vibes :P
Bikepacking 90kg extra would be absolutely brutal. I think I would barely move!
The line behind them!!! 😅
Got to be Jamie, Hank and Blake (GMBN) bros together going down hill on MTBS
Unexpected mukbang
Its just like watching Twins the film
Worlds biggest body builder? If you're talking about his height then he's not the biggest body builder in the world, not even close. As far as I know, that "title" still belongs to Olivier Richters(also known as the Dutch Giant), a Dutch bodybuilder standing 2.18m tall.
I am not sure if a bike can carry him,😂
Would love to see a bike and a gym challenge.
more jamie. MORE! MOOOOOOOOOORE!!!
It would have been nice to see him cycle along with you.
"Tour de France riders eat the same as anyone else for the distance and climbing." They don't have different physiology.
What cyclists do is propel a wheeled vehicle through air, and lift the mass of the vehicle against gravity.
What bodybuilders do is use machines or freeweights to lift mass against gravity. Much more mass, more often.
Many good bodybuilders, at some time, are offered an evening job as a male stripper. I was offered £1000 per night, in 1984.
Man, Calories and sheer amount of food aside, Imagine the time involved with all this food. Cooking, eating, shopping, & cleaning up afterwards.
BIG amount of food 🤯
They could be in the movie Twins 2
those parfaits look so good - it seems like England has such great oat cereal options. Can anyone recommend high oat content cold cereals for US consumers?
Bring on that hill challenge please?
Hank, GCN's biggest biceps, still dwarfed by Giant.
Would have been interesting to see the total macros of each meal
Well, its less than the breakfast your colleague had before his 200 miles ride. But once again .. my breakfast would have ended with the fruitjuice. i would not know where to put all the food. If i managed to fit it into my stomach, i would literally bulge out and probably look a bit pregnant.
Needless to say, i would love to have such a breakfast .. but there is just no way i could work the calories away. My main sports is running .. and that simply does not work when you are stuffed.
edit: absolute love that Jamie makes sure that it is about GOOD food.
Get Jamie back on, he has been a lot of fun on his appearances.
But the true question is: How do Jamie’s and Hank’s biceps compare to Si’s ankles?
I'm not gonna disagree with Jaime on anything !
That food looked soo yummy!!!
They seem like genuine friends!!
Si laughing in the background was great! 😂
Jamie seems like such a kind person for how big he looks 🤭
I tell myself I'm the giant each time I smash through a slice (or two) Bakewell Tart.
Hahaha good to give yourself a push 🤣
Would be great to see Jamie on regular to see riding a bike from a big guy’s perspective
Again? Haven't we done this already?
Simon looked so bored at the start of this video sitting on the bench catching up with stuff on his phone 😮
