    I genuinely love the way you approach your reviews. You are critical and objective without slandering, which I really appreciate. In fact, you're who I trust the most when it comes to movie reviews. (That being said, I'm still excited for this movie).

      Ahhhhh this movie only had a dental drill moment and a tube down a guy's throat... This review was miles away from objective... Is irritating the comparison to Nazi doctors, not even close.

    Spoilers
    Honestly the movie isn't as twisted as I'd hope there's a solid two scenes that are truly disturbing. I was kind of disappointed because I agree with you the first two hours were great but the ending.... it's not that it was to gory or disturbing but it was just plain stupid. When Jason isaacs took of his face I could tell who the director was because he looked like something straight out of pirates of the Caribbean. I wish they would of ended it after Dane dehaan had to swallow the eels it would of been a disturbing ending but better than the actual.

    • @PlasticBlueCowboy
      @PlasticBlueCowboy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not with the expectations of it being comparable to asylum. Asylum is way better. This is not scary at all. Creepy a little, but that's totally lost by the end. Disturbing and not in a good way.

    • @HisameArtwork
      @HisameArtwork 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She's a critic and often says mean things, I'm not surprised she gets dislikes from arch enemies...but it may also be part of some game/algorithm. On one social media platform I would often get dislikes when one of my drawings went live in the contest. And I draw cute animals....who can dislike that? But it was so I wouldn't win the cash prize.
      Do dislikes affect a channel's income?

  • @Trish-lamour
    @Trish-lamour 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good movie but I didn't like some of the script.
    Spoilers ahead:
    For a smart business man:
    1. Would he really signed a paper without reading it!!!
    2. When he escaped, why didn't he try to leave the town instead of going to the police, I mean, he already saw it is a shady town. He could come back with reinforcements if they wanted to get Pembroke back.
    Then:
    The "twist" and last part of the movie was like a bad mixture of The Phantom of the Opera and Oldboy. Yes, Oldboy was disturbing but was a masterpiece, this we like a bad copy.
    Overall I liked it, but it could've been much better.

    Glad to hear the film is (for the most part) great. After that creepy AF trailer, I've been looking forward to this for months now and a lot of other critics are praising the film for the balls it had in its last act so I'm very curious as to what the fuck actually happens in the end. I'm honestly going to have to respectfully disagree. I mean I get that you dont really see the end of the film coming the way that it does, but if your only gripe with it is that "you didnt want to see what they were showing you"... i mean thats not even close to professional criticism. If you thought it was gratuitous and did nothing for the films aesthetics or story, thats a different thing.... but it seems that you only didnt like it because of its graphic nature which is again... not really a fair criticism if you're trying to give an objective point of view... If anybody here would like to see a more spoiler free but more substantive review for A Cure For Wellness that is put in a different point of view that is a little more objective. PLEASE check out the review I did for this film on my channel. If you dont like it thats fine give it a thumbs down. If you DO like it, give it a thumbs up and spread the love. Thank you guys... And for the record, I like Grace, but sometimes I feel that she misses the ball completely

    I just came back from it and the weird thing about this whole movie is I don't even know if I either really LIKE it or really DISLIKE it. It's such a weird feeling, and it has been a very long while since I thought about a movie even when I was riding home.
    This movie made me feel really uncomfortable.. the stuff that they show in this movie is really graphic, which I didn't expect going in. For example *spoilers* the deer that was hit in the beginning, and they showed the animal struggling I was like "holy shit that's so sad". Also because of the length of this movie, the graphic stuff is even more shocking because there are such lengthy periods between scenes that WHEN something happens, it feels big.
    Also I didn't know what to think of that ending to be honest.. It turned like a really good directed story to sort of gothic Crimson Peak- ish movie... Which isn't bad in itself, but totally not what I was expecting.
    And you know what the creepiest thing about the whole movie was? That photograph with Jason Isaac's character wrapped up in bandages haha, I don't know why but that got goosebumps with me.
    So I TOTALLY agreed when you said that stuff about not wanting to see some of that stuff, it was just so painful to watch, and maybe that's a good thing? I'm still not sure.
    But I'm glad you already did a review for it Grace, I agree on almost everything you just said.
    I really look forward to seeing this a second time because now I will know what to expect.

    This was the most thorough and most mature review that I have seen on the film. This was exactly the input that I needed while I still make my decision concerning if I should see this film or not. I keep thinking of the Internet memes for "What is seen cannot be unseen!!" As I get older, I care much more about not being to unsee what has been seen particularly when it comes to real human on real human violence. As to the length of the movie. Someone should have said to Gore Verbinski, "Look. The audience already has to sit through 20-30 minutes of movie previews and concession stand advertisements. I think the directors particularly in sci-fi and action adventure movies take a movie that should be solid and then they go artistically amok. They try to take their creation to this fantastic place where no movie has gone before and the film becomes less at that point. The film audience that has absolutely no experience in directing a film is left saying, "Well that scene was way overdone. Didn't anyone in the director's chain of command tell that director that this scene will generate a huge number of audience WTF's per minute?" I may still endure the movie as I have enjoyed the work of the actors and actresses in previous films. I will just take my much needed bathroom breaks during the torture scenes.

    I understand what you're saying, the concept of something vs. actually seeing it. I actually can't do these types of movies because once you see something you can't unsee it. I was once in a classroom (there was nothing else to do- long story) where an asylum type horror film and I still can see some of those images in my head more than 10 years later. So, so hard to be in the same room as. I had to stop watching "reign" because it's supernatural subplots were making me have nightmares. I'm a bit of a chicken though. I have a question for you, if you don't mind answering: Have you ever walked out of a film because it just offended you that deeply? Just curious.

    You sound moralist, saying it's too much of a throwback to those horrible experiments, just because it's the correct and pc thing to say.

    I thought it was really interesting that you said all of the filming locations are real. I've been getting slightly disappointed with people using CGI so frequently now in movies. While I have not seen A Cure for Wellness yet, it definitely seems unique, and visually stunning. Though you did say that the visuals seem more like "smoke & mirrors" the actual cure doesn't really make sense. I also find it interesting, since they actually show the torture scenes, I thought that it would be more implied. I personally really like Dane DeHaan and his performances in movies, but as I have not seen A Cure for Wellness yet, I can't make the assumption that he was miscast. I am definitely intrigued and want to see the movie though.

      I used "smoke and mirrors" in regards to the mystery over the science of the cure, not the locations. :)

    A good horror movie is supposed to be scary and uncomfortable to watch and "there's a lot of stuff in this movie that I genuinely wish I hadn't seen" is the ultimate thing that proves this movie is a good horror movie

    Grace, thanks for this review - really looking forward to this movie - but, I want to comment on your hair. :) Feel a little weird commenting on it - like, maybe inappropriate, but since you often comment on actress's hair in trailers/movies, maybe not?
    Anyway, I've been watching your videos for a long time, and this is the first time I can recall that you've had your hair totally straight - usually, you've got a little waviness. For what it's worth - I like it! Not that I didn't like your wavy look, and maybe it's just that it's something different, but I really like the new look a lot! :)

    Grace i never understand why you seem to insist on advocating for Commerciality over Experimentation. There is a place for commercial success, but almost all the celebrated films of the last 50 years have been creatively risky endeavours, even the original Star wars, as commercial a hit as that was, it was a bold move toward original cinema. You are so good at what you do, and so i enjoy watching you, but I'm always sad that you seem to fix for the normalisation of Cinema. Suicide Squad, or Bvs or captain america:winter solider are not going to be remembered as great pieces of cinema.

    • @BeyondTheTrailer
      @BeyondTheTrailer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're totally misrepresenting my comments. Experimentation stylistically is wonderful, and I've been incredibly supportive of films like Mad Max Fury Road and John Wick 2. But this is really a moral issue about what should and shouldn't be considered entertainment.

    • @MartinGrechVideos
      @MartinGrechVideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if i am in fact misrepresenting then i apologise, i must admit i haven't yet seen "A cure for Wellness", so maybe i would agree with your moral issues.
      But ... to hear you say things like "thank goodness the studio was keeping hitchcock in check" (paraphrasing), just makes me sad. I have a small amount of experience in the film industry, both hollywood and independent, and it feels obvious to me that the studios are for the most part, kind of tyrannical Gate keepers, that more and more obsess over the reduction of risk and assimilation of every feature into neat commercial packages. Artists need the room to "go to far"or to make a flop etc, otherwise the only film makers that will get anywhere, are the paint by numbers studio darlings.
      Anyway, I would also like to say, since i think this is the first time you have noticed one of my comments, although i don't always agree with your thoughts, i really enjoy your content and am inspired by your passion :)

    Thank you Grace!!! Sometimes films about disturbing themes just isn't entertainment!! Not to say we can't have films about disturbing stories (I love Schindler's List for example) but sometimes all what the movie is just selling is just shock value.

    My Opinions on "A Cure for Wellness"
    Dane DeHaan didn't really show any emotions in the film.
    Both Mia and Jason was great in this film.
    The mystery of the Cure was really hard to understand.
    The final 30-mins was bad and really bland.
    The plot twist at the end wasn't executed perfectly.
    The duration was too long.
