They are NOT astronauts… They are Space Tourists!!

Absolutely right. An astronaut (and cosmonaut for that matter) has a mission, a key role, and trains like no other to fulfill that mission and role. To call these tourists "astronauts" is an insult to astronauts quite frankly. This thing is a farce. Perhaps in the world we live in today, Bezos can claim the this thing identifies as a space rocket, and its passengers identify as astronauts. It's their "lived truth".

Two guys that Chuck Yeager didn't think had the "right stuff":
* Ed Dwight, gave up being an astronaut
* Bill Anders, went to the Moon, anyway
I know they're glossing over it, but that landing was HARD. Who knows how close we just came to witnessing a total disaster.
The Russian and Chinese crewed space capsules land in a similar fashion. Those countries... combined..have hundreds of successful recoveries of human crews under their belts.

I wonder if they ever simulated this during development of this vehicle. It does appear this vessel works with two parachutes. Perhaps they'd also tested an uncrewed machine using one one parachute, but I've no idea.
The landing must not have been all THAT arduous, given the fact a 93-year-old man walked out of the capsule smiling...

@@lf9000 that's right forgot about that even though one was a movie star, and the other was an aviator. These senior citizens on BO are low profile ones-closer to us normies :)

I just realized they were launching this morning, so I found the BO live broadcast and was looking forward to watching a Sunday morning launch. As I was watching, the story of this accomplishment felt flat. Maybe we're getting spoiled by SpaceX, and even Boeing attempting to get Starliner off the ground and NASA, they show the people involved and we get to see their enthusiasm and commitment to their respective programs. Where were the people? I don't get the feeling of sharing the moment by doing documentary style b-roll.

I watched launch and up to apogee. But, didn’t know they were coming right back. Booster landing was a dream. Capsule landing successful, but it appeared damn hard. I’m wondering if all astronauts lost a few inches of height. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 🚀

It's always looks like that and everyone says its a hard landing, the air plumes 2 feet before touchdown so it's kicks a lot of dust. But they felt little to nothing.
@@Garlander actually the chute fail meant they felt a far bigger deceleration than was intended and than is sensible for civilians, astronauts they are not
@@eddycurrant1380 The capsule is literally designed for only 2 chutes, Third one doesnt matter makes the descent speed a 5 mph difference. The retro-thrusters and landing pads on the bottom of the capsule, along with the scissors-style shock absorption seats take all the shock away from the abrupt landing. They literally felt nothing. And I never called them astronauts.

It always looks like that, every single time. There's an air thrust like 2 feet before touchdown. And on top of that there is a landing pad on the bottom of the capsule, and the passengers on are scissor shock absorption chairs, with all that they felt little to nothing. Do a tiny bit of research bud.
Be that as it may, it is still archaic, minimalist technology. I mean, you can't even get reliable opening of a parachute ? Even NASA and Boeing do better than that ! ;)
I watch this and in the back of my mind I think of the Titan submersible. I certainly don't wish Blue Origin bad luck, but you have be honest in assessing their their current abilities. They've got a lot of catching up to do and I do wish them sincere good luck in making progress, but that doesn't justify overestimating the acomplshments evidenced in this flight.
@@wingmanjim6I mean this is NS 25 launch and the first time a chute failed to deploy but OK, Dragon capsule had the same exact thing happen. Chutes aren't 100% every time. But I'm sure BO will investigate and look for improvements. They literally tested a 2 chute landing twice.

This is all Bezos is good for. He pulls out a PR stunt maybe once every few years in the hopes that people will think Blue Origin is still in the new space race. The fact that what we saw in this video is what he actually sued SpaceX over for a government moon landing contract makes him absolutely delusional.

I watched this live and everyone in the comments was saying what I was thinking… it looked like it crashed. Almost on its side a very hard dust cloud crash landing. With commentators saying the failed deploy of a chute was fine it was just a back up. Then they switch from the hazy long range cam to some very grim faces in the control room. Then switch cams again to the “drone” cam and we see a perfect clear image of the capsule close up and it looks brand new and clean and perfect and upright and people inside the windows. I think I left my Flying Saucer 🛸 at Studio 54 🪩
