Another impost taxpayers is not necessary! And why should taxpayers not only suffer the consequences of a failed government, but now pay for their failures? I suggest that we should make government members pay for their total failure by reducing their numbers. Firstly, get rid of all the deputy ministers. Secondly, cut the salary of the ministers by 50% and remove all the costly personal expenses to government e.g. cut the price of vehicles bought for government members, and pay for only one vehicle; tighten those travel costs; reduce all other ministerial costs such as unnecessary air travel, and overseas medical services. I challenge readers to add their suggestions as to how failed government members might be compelled to pay for their inadequacy. Of course, it would be ideal if they would just have the humility (that Minister Gordhan expects from Mr de Ruyter), and fall on their swords. Don't bother to go to another election. Stand and be counted or get out.

I agree with you Alec that reading the book is important. It is informative but, one should not lose sight of the fact that the book is André's subjective experience of his time in Eskom. It is valid from a phenomenological perspective but left to the reader to read and analyse. If one wishes to use the book as a source for developing strategic positioning one should do so and not take it at face value only. At face value it is a good read and certainly shocking. Strategically it provides many themes that require further exploration.
