I actually thought Genevieve telling the truth about the idol being fake was gameplay! I thought it was a good move because it makes people start to wonder if you're lying and it's actually real lol

Rachel being suspected with no idols because of her shot of the dark play, making them believe he has no idol and the shot is her last shot of protection

It's a shame that Andy made SUCH a strong case for himself to Rachel. If she'd idol'd out Sam, Andy wouldn't have been responsible for sending him home and he'd have had his advocate (potentially).

Andy was going for the Kevin Jacobs strategy, but that strategy hinges on a strong perception shift throughout the game. Kevin was able to do it by slowly shifting his approach over time. He started as a socially awkward superfan then slowly came out of his shell then relied more on humor then did more antics to disarm people while also ingratiating himself with them. And different people knew different parts of his game that all the pieces lined up in the jury. Not to mention some pivotal game changing moves to set himself up the best.
It seems Andy struggled with the transition part and relied on Operation: Italy to be that huge inflection point that he could use to build the last few critical moves of his endgame off of.

It would be really interesting if they did a season where all the hidden idols look drastically different. It would make it a lot harder to spot a fake.

Agreed, David. I think Genevieve taking Sol out was the wrong time precisely because I think they could have targeted him later on. They had 6 votes left. That’s plenty of time to formulate a plan to take out Sol. I don’t think the F10 is when you need to die on that hill. Players like Sol are the prime shield and target down the stretch. Look at Rachel. The reason people want her gone is because she’s so well-respected. The immunities simply make it more urgent to take her out.
At the very least Genevieve needed to have built up a solid enough structure to give herself agency after the Sol vote. Fortunately, the threat of Tuku kept her shielded enough to make some critical plays to get to 5. However, I think maximizing agency would have been the better play with the Tuku threat being no more than a safety net if things didn’t work out as opposed to something to be primarily relied upon.

Hindsight is 20 20. Andy knew how he was being perceived. He knew the only way to win was to change the jury perception. So he did what was mathematically correct. I won't do the risk reward math because it's all estimates... but fishback is right and Andy was right. When your chance of winning is close to zero taking the chance to improve it is worth the small risk of being idoled out. Being out of the game isn't much worse than making the final 4 with no jury votes, e,g,.see sue

That and both Rachel and sue were doing the withholding jury vote threat if he lied to them again bit, so there's that to consider.

I feel like Andy's jury management move was more like suited for Big Brother and not for Survivor. But in a way, Rachel just recognized that Andy was playing a good game which is I think the validation that he needed.

@4:53 yes she told Sue about her idol so Sue would stop looking early on the morning. @21:02 I agree. Andy made it seem like he flipped at tribal but only Genevieve/Sam know the real story. @24:00 I hope Sam/Genevieve would credit Andy but if all 3 are in the final tribal I can see Sam making the case how he specifically chose Andy to join the love letter reward so he can sway him to flip since he noticed no one from underdog alliance followed Andy’s plan of voting Genevieve off at previous tribal. @26:02 I also think Sue wanted to vote off Andy before Sam. @35:30 Sam and Genevieve should have talked on what to do with that fake idol if both wanted to be in final tribal together.

I honestly think most of the reason we dont see Genevieve early is a) she was sick and b) I suspect it was all Keyshawn stuff and with him leaving early it wasn’t important.

I don’t think Sam and Sue being in the top 3 would be boring at all. Why is Sue so underrated. She would be the oldest winner of survivor ever, has done great in almost all the challenges, and is extremely loyal to her allies and makes that her main method of gameplay which I think is cool

Great point from Jessica about how Andy used his perceived incompetence to get further and make moves while keeping the target on others.
It would have been fascinating to see Andy and Sam in the final three, I get the feeling they both would have tried to claim credit for Operation
Italy and fought over it. Then if Genevieve was on the jury, she would probably give Andy the credit.

  • @bobodo45

I will disagree a little bit on a couple of points.
Regarding Rule 5, while Genevieve wasnt intentionally mean to anyone during the game, I dont think she handled a few of her conversations with Teeny particularly well (i.e. the aftermath of Sol getting voted out). Given that Teeny was likely very emotional in certain situations, she should've found a way to convey herself that wouldn't rubbed have rubbed Teeny the wrong way.
Regarding Andy, I'm not sure how much of his gameplay was playing up his emotions/neediness or how much of those emotions were genuine. During Final 8 when he was trying to get Genevieve out over Kyle, he genuinely seemed to havea tough time getting his points across.
Moreover, I think Andy would've had a tough time convincing the jury to vote for him to win. Even if he had someone like Sam advocating for him, I dont think the jurys view of him was particularly good, given the reaction to his vote-out.

I believe the reason why Andy took the risk to tell Rachel about his game is because he didn't want to be forced to make fire for a resume boost. However, I believe that going to fire was his best route to the win. In the new era of Survivor, a winning case needs at least an immunity win or a victory in the F4 fire-making.

I'm glad you all touched on Teeny's vote for Sam. But I think you only got it half right. It was a planned vote split. They weren't sure if Gen's idol was real but they wanted Gen out so they had to put the most votes on her. Sam and Gen would likely vote Sue not Teeny because Teeny was at least nominally on their side. And Sue had an idol so those votes would be nullified. So if Gen's idol was real, Sam's one vote would send him home.

Rachel has been a good player BUT can we be honest. She’s likely going to win this game bc Sol is an idiot. He made a short-sighted move with very little upside. Save Rachel. Ok why?? Bc she’s the target? What agency did she have? What power did she have? None. Gabe at the time was a power player, curry favor with him is more of a long-term play. Sol literally begged Rachel to save him & she couldn’t BC she had no power.

    • @aosmom1322

Disagree. Sol had zero relationship with people on Tuku tribe at the time. Sol was try to build an alliance. The idea that Genevieve would turn on him and spearhead his vote out so early was super slim.

Caroline mentioned in some interview that Sue did offer to do it but Caroline was the one insisting she not (same goes for Rachel's advantage, btw, Caroline also said not) because she didn't want Andy to feel like they didn't trust him or something (IF Operation Italy didn't end up happening).

    This was a 10/10 episode.
My favorite player executed a reverse funeral, Genevieve was weakened (I love a good villain downfall), and my least favorite player is finally off my screen (but will probably be demanding free therapy from all the women in ponderosa).

@@jaykay1899 Yes. I don't understand the contention with the term "villain" in this community. It doesn't mean "bad person", it means someone I root against in a power struggle. I enjoyed Genevieve a lot in the beginning of the season and she lost me super fast with her Big Moves that were flashy in the moment but were questionable in the long run. I have nothing against her personally, but I think she's silly as a player and will root for her downfall as a result.
And for the other commenter who called me a troll: bud, you'll be okay. You're allowed to have different favorites. It's just a show. I don't dislike Genevieve as a person. Rooting against players is fun and part of the game. Deep breaths.

@@Stinkeroniandcheese I have zero contention with the word villain. Nor do I think it means "bad person". However I personally don't think someone should be classified as a villain just because YOU are personally rooting against them. To me being a villain has more to do with the way you play the game. Genevieves entire storyline was that she came into the game trying to be cutthroat without emotions and connections and quickly realized that it was not working and she was hurting people so she tried to open up more. That sounds like the opposite of a villain storyline to me.

Fishback's takes are always wrong. Listen to his lack of amazement at Rachel's performance.
Her handling of Andy on beach and after was what is taught in Langley to future spies.
Add a sting to your pitch. (The word "careless" in describing Andy's reputation for example. This is classic stick to place right before the carrot of being safe that she gives him if he sides with her.)

I appreciate D.B., but hard disagree on the (repeated) claims that Andy's F7 move was obviously "right" while Genevieve's F10 move was obviously "wrong."
Andy was in a prime position to make it to F5 and probably F3 before his move, and instead gets voted out at the very next tribal council. Meanwhile, Genevieve was in no-mans-land before her F10 move and doesn't get voted out until four tribal councils later, at literally the last possible moment she could get voted out.
