      It's a really funny and insightful point, because for all of the bitter talk from jury members about certain finalists being goats or riding coattails, the absolutely biggest coattail riders are the people who act as cheerleaders for who they want to win, likely as a way to boost their own fame or potential to be a returning player.

      I’m of the belief that most people don’t think that analytically* about their vote. Drew is very smart and preceptive, I could see him thinking like this. But I feel most people wouldn’t or would be genuinely big enough survivor fans to vote for who they think played the best game.

    Always love listening to Drew.
    I know we get a lot of talk about how to change the jury from time to time, but I have never heard a compelling argument. The truth of the matter is that there is no foolproof way to account for all the emotions and egos at play. Just like in the game of Survivor, managing those two aspects is the goal. Survivor juries are not real life juries where there is factual evidence and legal procedure. Survivor is emotion and relationships, and there is simply no way to account for the human element.
    Even the sequestered jury that Drew advocates for wouldn’t account for his own personal calculus where he himself thought that Austin winning would make Drew look worse in the edit but Austin losing would probably make Drew look better. He still ended up voting Austin because he saw Austin as a friend. He would still have all of those thoughts if he were sequestered. Unless he’s saying that he only thought that way after talking to other jurors.
    Secondly, Lauren Harpe said that she was always voting Yam Yam over Heidi and Carolyn. She left the game thinking Yam Yam was better than Heidi and Carolyn, which means she would walk into FTC thinking that same thing. There would be no opportunity to ever change her mind if she were sequestered. I truly don’t think a sequestered jury will ever make a jury more open-minded by the time they get to FTC. Without any kind of counter arguments, they will probably just be more likely to stick to their own feelings when they were voted out. A player like Andy will essentially never have a chance to change perception with a sequestered jury. It’s not very likely with the current jury format either or in general, but there’s a chance.
    For all the talk about jury changes, I have yet to see a solution that doesn’t simply boil down to “make a better perception amongst the jurors and you win.” If jurors think highly of you and want you to succeed then that’s part of the social politics of the game. Sure, are some players going to deal with less fortuitous juries? Yeah. But that’s part of the game just like tribe swaps or getting stuck on a tribe full of people less likely to befriend you. There is no way to account for all of that bias, emotion, and ego. Navigating all of those is the game of Survivor.
    As always, it’s a pleasure listening to Drew. I enjoy his perspective on the game and he always gets the brain juices flowing. I still want to see a discussion between Drew and Shannon about split votes 😂

    I also think this new era meta game where the "biggest threats" get voted out early in the merge really gives some jury members an inflated ego, as if they played a better game than a perceived "goat" finalist. By definition, if someone makes it farther in the game then you, then they played a better game than you.

    Agree with most of Drew's take, but Kristie Bennet of Au survivor had a stereotype. She was considered a weirdo, lose canon, goat -- something similar to Andy's stereotype. So I do believe there's winnability in that last minute reveal, just that it has to be done in an effective manner, i.e.,
    1. Be a confident speaker, argue your case with stone cold conviction
    2. Have a really surprising move that most of the jury don't know about (eg MaryAnn Oketch)
    3. Sit with somebody who won't be as effective as you in articulating his/her game

    • @mjbreuer
      @mjbreuer 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t think Kristie can pull that off w/o winning the final immunity - it felt like the scale of that win helped create the “momentum” for re-approaching the way she’d played

    • @RL-br6el
      @RL-br6el 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @mjbreuer maybe or maybe not. Kristie definitely needed that win to ensure she's able to even plead her case before the jury. There's a huge possibility (however stupid it might be) that Lee takes El to ftc had he won. However, even after coming into ftc with that final immunity necklace, the jury seemed to be more dead set on giving Lee the win (unless it really was just the editing making it seem that way). If we are to believe what we were presented with, looked like Kristie was just really able to convince the jury that she approached the game with intentionality and was playing by her awareness of how she was perceived by her competitors. What also helped is how Lee crumbled before the jury making it harder to give him the vote. But yeah, maybe that final immunity win did have a sway, just that the edit really downplayed that I guess.

    • @cama2003
      @cama2003 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      It was also a Final 2 not a Final 3. It just makes for a totally different dynamic at FTC. There's a true duality to it. You only need to distinguish your game from one other person, and it's often day and night between the two options. If it's a Final 3 of El, Lee and Kristie she is probably finishing third but in a Final 2 she could really plead her case against Lee's game.
      It was also a lesson in real time for most of the jury. The people that understood the show could really highlight Lee's hypocrisy in front of the group. How could you vote for someone who preached loyalty and honesty when he didn't live by it himself? Kristie understood all of these things and she used what had become the theme of that season against him.

    Drew's point here about casting is so valid and a huge reason why modern casts are so stale and boring. Very few jocks. Very few tough individuals. Very few people with rough edges. Very few rural people in general. Has politics really become so divisive that they can only cast urbanites with perfectly sanitized opinions about everything? It's so telling that Kyle, who is actually a great character from rural America, also happens to be a vegetarian/vegan, a strong marker that someone leans left. In the very first season, an openly gay man becomes friends with a conservative Navy SEAL and goes on to win. It seems that the extremely "diverse" nature of modern Survivor is actually totally lacking in diversity when it comes to backgrounds and personalities.

    • @cama2003
      @cama2003 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think we've seen a lot of toxic masculinity from the macho types. Especially in the 20's run of seasons. Just a lot of bad and/or questionable people. I don't think it's a conservative thing but more something about not wanting racist, homophobic or misogynistic people on the show. But I agree that it's sad that it excludes finding unique people like Rudy and Keith. Though at the same time I think it's great to exclude people like Joe Anglim, most of the Fiji and One World casts and the John Rocker's of the world.
      Including those types really ostracizes other types of people in the game which we have seen many times. It makes some people have bad experiences that are unrelated to the game.
