Cannot wait for this programme. This shows starts tomorrow night at 9:00pm BBC Two if anybody wants to know. Richard, you are awesome. Keep the programmes coming.
Basically. The thing falls. The GPS breaks, so they can't find it. It takes them 5 days to find. Once they find it, they discover that the light bulb has not broken and that is still fully functional.
Dear Richard Love it! he he Just wanted to mention, so enjoyed wonderful 007 programme! Late uncle from family was Sir Roger Moore's agent for many years and it was my uncle who procured amazing Bond avenue plus numerous other exciting parts for many of the greatest such as the ever wonderful Sir Roger Moore who to my mind, is and always will be for me at any rate! Best ever Bond! :)
But it was to test if the bulb would survive such an impact encapsulated in a shell designed like a woodpeckers skull.. it produce enough g that would turn your brain to mash
I thought that the light bulb would be exposed and maybe light up as if it were in a microwave, I mean why else would someone send a light bulb into space if not to see any reaction from it?
Helium doesn't disappear... There might not be "much left" but that's all there was to start with... The helium we used fifty years ago is the same helium we are using NOW. Take a Chemistry class will ya? (I'm waiting for a "Oh I'm a world-renowned Chemistry Professor blah blah blah" AKA "I'm a twelve year old kid")
I'm sorry good sir. But I'm positively sure that their not lying. Yes, the lens are doing some kind of effect, but at this height, even with a normal lens, you can see the beautiful curvature of our planet.
Thecrazzycommunity So how is it that the Earth seems less curved form ISS than from a weather baloon? Shows like this or red bull space jump etc. are lying to us. From this hight the curvature is only subtle. Look up "James May Lockheed U-2 Flight"
Haha really? its recycled and gathered nearly specifacally for this purpose. And of course its not actually used up this way. And the amount in this weather balloon is nothing compared to the amount there is.
0:41 "We're going into space!" *excited squeal*
Are you kidding me... the didnt show it land!

You missed the good bit where they search for it! That was epic!
Love this series! Love the connection between nature and science. I have often wondered how a woodpecker's brain isn't reduced to mash!! Now we know!

Space is getting closer and closer to earth it seems.
the end is so funny! watched it in Biology, when he gets the lightbulb back, his face! laughed so much
And that’s how ‘God must be crazy 2’ starts.
that was a truly awesome program last nigh, really enjoyed it and can't wait for next week's episode.
Awww, I wanted to see the end of it !
Brilliant documentary! I couldn't stop watching!
Dear Richard
Love it! he he

SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
Why a light bulb?
Because it's fragile. The test was to see if the bulb could survive the fall in the protective tube.
did it?
+Katzen4u yes!
The fuck...how did it survive?
by using the same technology a woodpecker uses to protect its brain. He says that in the video. Did you not pay attention?
Why not use a regular camera
It's a bit like the sky diving that Felix did! Except Felix is a barrel containing lightbulbs!
GPS shuts off over 60.000ft or 1.200mph, cause the reciever thinks your an ICBM...
What?...
This is one example why we need to protect environment and biodiversity of our planet.
3:08??? on the right screen, left side of the bulb holder
what am i meant to look for?
+john Technologies OMG ALIENS!!!!!
lol what is that?
your'e being sarcastic right?
Daniyal Shah What is it?
Meanwhile someone is having a good day walking around and that drops on his head and kills him.
Lmao
"We're going into space! **Excited wheezing**"
Aww, c'mon I wanna see the rest of it! I suppose that's why they did it.
When's this show coming on?
If that's the curbature of the earth, why does it change when the camera moves up and down, like it's filmed with a fisheye lens?
Richard Hammond's going hipster, shooting things in the stratosphere before Red Bull did.
Great
Episode/series?
True, but we live on earth. It's all well and good having helium out there, but it's pretty unreachable.
It was an optical illusion, the earth is simply too big to show the curvature on camera at that height.
I can't wait to see this show, haters be dammed! :)
was this filmed in black rock desert?
But it was to test if the bulb would survive such an impact encapsulated in a shell designed like a woodpeckers skull.. it produce enough g that would turn your brain to mash
James May already did this with the ashes of a budgie on his programme
Science!
dnt put the lightbulb in space. now the aliens are gonna be like rihanna and shine bright like a diamond
rice4yu like my Area 51 alien
What about the landing?
cool!
Even though it is one of the most abundant resources in space.... Second to Hydrogen.
SMH, Helium never disapears.... The Helium we used fifty years ago is the same helium we are using now. It never goes away. NEVER...
I thought that the light bulb would be exposed and maybe light up as if it were in a microwave, I mean why else would someone send a light bulb into space if not to see any reaction from it?
we can just make some more if its realy needed :) but it would be expensive.
Yes the earth is round, circle, wheel shaped,😲 anyone who thinks the earth is flat needs a reality check
Who’s gonna tell him a wheel is a cylinder
Sorry I meant BBC One.
So is no fish eye lense used?
Why would they waste helium like that. There's not much left.
why?
Yeah i know, but the dude was asking what happened next. :P
Fulton
talented RICARD HAMMOND do impressive jobs
Tavga Hawrame you do impressive grammar

We can go to the moon and take it to the earth.
Are you serious? It's a very extreme fisheye lens! Who are you kidding?
No one :
Flatearthers : this is edited
In 2015 we will just clone it!!
yeah! in 2015 will have flying cars and time machines.
in 2016 we will have flying dogs too
Where abouts is the huge stuffed animal warehouse thing that Richard is in sometimes in during the series????
This is not curvature of Earth, it's effect of fish eye lenses.
at 1:19 you can see the same curvature and camera is about 30meters up....
Did anyone see the UFO it popped out from earth
It's not the curvature of Earth. It's cause by wide angle lens. Why are they lying?
I'm sorry good sir. But I'm positively sure that their not lying. Yes, the lens are doing some kind of effect, but at this height, even with a normal lens, you can see the beautiful curvature of our planet.

Look up "James May Lockheed U-2 Flight"
Uh-oh, another conspiracy nut from the shit-end of the internet. Do not feed.
Just look up James May U2 flight and stop shitting.
Or Joseph Kittinger 31 km space jump.
Haha really? its recycled and gathered nearly specifacally for this purpose. And of course its not actually used up this way. And the amount in this weather balloon is nothing compared to the amount there is.
1:57 this man lied for television. I am not a flat earther, but that is clearly a fish eye lens. why can't people just be honest? lol
Because nobody lied.

Why don't we do this with illegal immigrants?
