nah he was in character. Denzel was portraying Frank Lucas the biggest drug dealer in Harlem Brolin was a playing an extortionist crooked cop (Trupo) Trupo (not sure if that character was an accurate portrayal of an actual person) wouldn’t have touched Frank Lucas in real life

Neither one were related to Josh Brolin nor Denzel Washington, the actors. And, in the end, John Brolin pulled out of the fight at the last minute because he was offered a shot at the champion, Jason Bardem. Edit: But great story. Sorry.
