I never comment on videos like this, but I gotta say making this without some stupid ass music and a bunch of "humorous" voice over b.s. makes it the #1 how to video I've ever seen. And I've watched a bunch. To bad it's not the rule by which all similar videos must comply to. I can't thank you enough for taking the time and doing this the right way...
I got to do mine over the weekend outside and I live just outside Chicago,i'm gonna hate doing it but much easier than pulling a full 35gal tank and it don't fit in my garage, but thanks for the great video
You're very Humble not to take a Bow at the end of the Vid, Genius!!!....you've done in minutes what would take hours and knuckle busting ...great Info
My fuel pump finally died. Just rewatched your video to freshen up the brain on what I’ll need to do. Thanks for keeping it to the point and not blabbering on about unnecessary $#!T. 👍🏻
Thank you so much. Me and number one son did it today - it took 4 hrs, but we ended up looking for tools and had trouble with the gasket to move that piece into the new pump! You are a lifesaver, but I wished more than once that we'd had your winch! So good to hear the truck run again :)
The only thing missing was the removal of the ground strap between the cab and the bed. Thanks for the video. You saved me a lot of time and aggravation.
I just did this on my 01 Cummins to replace the fuel level sending unit except I used a floor jack and a 2x4 from under the bed then supported the bed with a big block of wood, worked great and fixed my 1/4 tank issue.
I hope you don't mind but I saved this video for me to do the same thing with my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 this weekend. put on my phone so I can reference it without having to get out from under my truck. Best video on this subject out there!! Three Thumbs Up!!
Thank you for your very good video. It is one of the most concise, easy to understand videos that I have seen. No wasted time with voice instructions. The finger pointing and clarity of you camera make this instruction very good.
Thank you for providing such a simple and fast method to gain access to the fuel pump. There are too many youtube videos showing idiots cutting an access panel in the truck bed floor. They also show cutting the structural reinforcement beams and destroying the bed. Your tilt lift method is quick and the truck bed is not destroyed.
For future reference, that red clip on the connecter is called a secondary lock. You need to slide it over, then push on the tab to remove the connector like normal. That's why you had a difficult time removing it. I'm actually surprised it didn't break when you pulled it off. Chrysler has a red lock on almost every wire harness connection.
Excellent video! I replaced the fuel pump on my 99 Ram last weekend using this video as a guide. Was much easier than dropping the tank. I did have to remove the rear bumper to allow the bed to be tilted far enough.
I just did this on my 1991 W150 and it was the same and worked great! I'll never do it any other way. I didn't want to drop the tank because I had just filled it the day before the pump went south on me! Thanks to the poster for posting this!!!
why do they always seam to go right after a fill up. I had a gmc truck that the fuel pump quit at the gas pump when i tried to start it right after a fill-up
I was a Honda tech for over 10 years Honda school trained. I am disabled now still work on car's I try to show people some of the easy way's to do a lot jobs . some are so simple if you look at it a little different.
Thank you for the easy to follow instructions on how to change the fuel pump on the Dodge Ram. I have acquired a non running Ram and I'm not getting any fuel to the rails. Lifting just the front of the bed in your video is going to save me so much time accessing the pump and fuel lines. And, I can do it by myself and not need to ask a neighbor to help me take the bes off. 👍 to you sir
This is an OUTSTANDING video. I appreciated the comments rather than the talking. It allowed me to pause the video and really get what you were explaining. By not cutting the hole in the bed, I was able to preserve it's integrity. And with an almost full tank (isn't that when crap like this happens?) your solution is perfect! Thank you, sir!
This was the best straight forward video on changing ram1500 fuel pump..I put a piece of duct tape or rag into gas filler to keep screws from falling into tank when unscrewing/screwing in.
Thanks for this. There are several good videos for this project but I found this one the most helpful. I ended up tilting the bed with a floor jack and a length of 4x4 wood post and supporting with 2 jack stands on a 2x8 piece of wood on the cross brace.
it was very helpful man, thank you if you could i wanted to know is the bolts attaching the bed to the frame are in the same place on a 2002 dodge ram 1500 single cab
Thanks for showing it could be done this way, because I was thinking about doing or trying to change my pump this way and never heard of doing it like this and searched if anyone else did it like this and worked, great minds think alike and once again thank you for a great video 👍
thanks for being very detailed on the repair i just bought a 97 ram 4x4 for 700 dollars and this was the problem. You saved me alot of money on a repair thanks. We have to keep older trucks on the road because the new ones are so freaking high!!!! no such thing as a plain jane any more every body wants a luxury truck nowadays! Keep up with vids!
Thank you for this video. Not only does it look like your a great mechanic, but your video skills are some of the best I have seen on vehicle repair video's. If you are not making repair videos for Bently, Chiltons etc, you should be. Saved me a lot of time on my repair.
Thank you. I recently purchased a Gen2 1500. Glad to see people out there take the time to help others by doing these videos. Maybe i don't understand the youtube space as why would someone not like something they get for free (the thumbs down views)?? Please keep it up.
when lifting the bed up leaning toward passenger side... put a standard car jack under the bedframe where your tire wheel is located, you wont need a engine lift if you do that ...it works great
I believe what he's describing is vs tilting the bed front to rear you tilt it side to side. Remove all the bed bolts on the drivers side , loosen all the ones on the passenger side 1/2 way , disconnect the filler tube , and lift the drivers side of the bed.
So I replaced mine yesterday. However I got a friend to help me just lift the bed and slide it away from the cab about 2 feet. It seemed much easier than dropping the tank.
Katmandu2 Use a tall farm jack on each side. Use old rug scraps to keep the jacks from scratching the paint. Or use a floor jack with a long stick on each side. If you only have one jack, you have to alternate from side to side and use lots of shims.
So as I've been reading some of the other comments I noticed ppl mentioning tilting the bed from the side instead.. is it easier to do a side lift and if so can someone explain the difference with which bolts to remove plz?.. I've also noticed in other videos when ppl have lifted just the frt that the bumper gets tilted should anything else be loosened or unbolted?
There is an arrow on the bottom of the module that should be lined up in the center of the 2 notches on top of the tank when inserting the new module back into the tank.
Thanks for sharing. Do you know what size this tank is? The pumps are apparently different for the 2 different size tanks. The 1 I'm working on is the 5.9L I think. Thanks, take care.
this help me replace my fuel pump on my 95 ram, my truck is hard to to so i replace my power steering gear box on the 96 ram, but it still is hard to Turn, does these trucks have a Fuse or a relay for the Power steering?
you did not talk about the alinement mark and how many turns on the locking ring?? do you have to remove the electrical wiring to the tail lights and bumper also were to buy the fuel pump OME parts ETC. not sure autozone is the correct parts for my truck.
Our previous owners mechanic THREW away the carry over vent cap and it does not come with the new fuel pumps. Now 2020 and very hard to find. Can this be capped (if its secure) without a vent?
I must be the only person with this issue here but the evap vent is stuck on my old pump. Like stuck to the point where putting my foot on the pump and trying to deadlift the vent out doesnt work, even tried disassembling the bottom portion inside the resovoir itself. Any suggestions?
ow my goodness.it took hours to drop tank,my son and I bought a parked litl d1500.,we had to pull tank out completely because it set up for a year we no of.lots of syrupy oil in pan.we were worried because dipstick was broken off,but handle was in tube.what we could c was attached to handle was rusted an broken off bout 6inches down.no idea on the rest.we were going to change oil n filter naturally.we had to drop oil pan to b sure.no rusty dipstick nside, hee haw we kikin now.cleaned wiped replaced gasket, all's great.back to fuel pump.we scowered the pik n pulls,no luckstill lookin for new one now.I love those places got mirror for my ford sport, also stay ups supports for hatchback glass lid andoor.also got support for hood,no more pvc pipe.stepping up in the easy life.had ford for 14yrs yus got little things.227,000 miles purrs.yes I'm a ford lady.anyway, wish we,d come across ur page bfor we started.got you now.b check-in as we get back to tank and filter.thanks for the close ups easy steps.have a good one.debbi

Hard to say. Visual inspection would be my first move. Pull the bed up and see if anything looks out of place. The filler neck hose could have a crack in it as well.
Hi I did the same thing the fuel gauge was working and after I changed the fuel pump the fuel gauge isn't working any does anyone know what I did wrong?
Got the new fuel pump in and the fuel gauge is staying on Empty when full. Is this common, or do I need to go back under the bed and do something? Thanks
MrSubaru1387 took the pump out and the float on the sending unit had a pinhole, and filling up with gasoline. Now I’ve got to try and locate a new float🤷♂️🤷♂️
I have a question guys. I have all the bolts holding the bed on and I have one bolt that will not break lose and it's the one in the corner that I'm gonna be lifting the bed up. Any ideas on what to do?
Apply some heat with a torch or use freeze-off to unseize it. Freeze-off is sold in a spray can like wd40. It's a cooling penetration oil. Can be found at most auto parts stores.
OK, don't have an engine hoist, is there any way to do this by lifting the bed towards the passenger side? not changing my fuel pump I'm looking for a fuel leak

I like the no commentary. Great job. Doing my 98 cab corners this weekend. Fuel pump while its tilted.

Good job! I’ve dropped gas tanks by myself laying on my back in the driveway and always thought ‘never again’, but this approach looks doable.
The only thing missing was the removal of the ground strap between the cab and the bed. Thanks for the video. You saved me a lot of time and aggravation.

Very fine tutorial. Video illustration was extremely clear and concise. This is exactly the way a video of this type should be done! Thanks!

why do they always seam to go right after a fill up. I had a gmc truck that the fuel pump quit at the gas pump when i tried to start it right after a fill-up
GM trucks are notorious for that. Lol
Getting ready to install an aftermarket check valve, this helped me locate the ONE place I can find soft fuel line to put it.

This is the right way to do this job instead of lowering the tank. I’ve done it in 30 minutes.
Please make more videos of dodge repairs! Best tutorial video I've ever seen for my truck
+Maria Elena glad you liked it.
excellent video. one man operation,45 minutes. had to drop the spare tire.thanks for the video.
No problem, glad it was helpful to you.
Excellent directions. Straight to the point.
Glad you found it helpful.
One of the best. If not the best mechanuc video on TH-cam. Dude even gives you time to read.

Thanks. Glad you found it helpful. Just a good ol jack of all trades. Photographer/videographer, former auto technician, current Snap-on tool dealer.
I would suggest testing the fuel pump and watching for leaks before lowering the bed of the truck
Best video for fuel for replacement
Great video, just did the same repair today with success! Thank you!

I used this video as a reference when I replaced my fuel pumps. Great video thanks!!!!!
Glad to help!
Thanks! I'm doing this job this weekend. I have a small tractor to do the lifting. Should be a snap!
You would've heard me talking to myself the whole time.
Nice video I just did the fuel pump on my 1995 ram 3.9 and it was easy to do the job this way than to drop the fuel tank
Just like everyone else said, great video!! Thank you for making it look so easy.
El mejor video que he visto en mi vida. Sin palabras pero bien explicado
Best video i have seen so far THANK YOU! Great job.
You're welcome. 👍

Yup

Thank you for this video. Definitely gonna try it this way next weekend!

Great How-To video ! ANyone have tips on how to raise and lower the bed without using an engine hoist (don't have access to one).
Katmandu2 You can rent them if available in your location.
Katmandu2 Chain hoist and large tree limb!
Katmandu2 Use a tall farm jack on each side. Use old rug scraps to keep the jacks from scratching the paint. Or use a floor jack with a long stick on each side. If you only have one jack, you have to alternate from side to side and use lots of shims.
Great video, and thanks, I followed it step by step
+Nickonovitz White glad to help 👍
GREAT VIDEO, YOU REALLY HELPED ME OUT, I FOLLOWED YOUR DIRECTIONS TO THE T. If I had my truck is on E & wont crank, do I need to fill up & try again
It won't crank or won't start?
If it's on "E" put some gas in it.
Wow, that was a brilliant idea. what a time saver. Thanks

Relly good video and instructions.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video- I have a leak and need to find where its at. Thanks
Fantastic job sir thanks for sharing

Do i remove the bumper first or keep it on?
Well that was easy for you good job great video...
Is there a way I can do this without the engine lift thing?
Awesome video thanks for the help!
+KomeeK glad you enjoyed it. 👍
What was the type of Jack you used to lift the bed?
An engine hoist.
Great job, you helped me big time! Thanks
+Willie Hopkins glad to help.
Would you happen to know if this process could be used on a 2014 Ram 1500? I have the dreaded "fuel sensor fail" problem and the dealership wants over $1000 to fix it.
Should be able to access the fuel pump module just the same as this.
Great Video , Thankyou very much
No problem, glad to help.
Thanks man your a lifesaver
Glad to help.
Thank you, great video.
Glad you liked it.
What do I do if my fuel line is leaking right at the connector
Nice video well done
thanks man
Thanks, no problem. Glad you found it helpful.
do you have to take off the rear bumper, and will this method work on a 2006?
Bumper wasn't removed. It should work for most pickup trucks.
Excellent video
+Ace Matrix thank you. 👍
would a Reese Hitch get in the way for the tilt?
It shouldn't.
I should show this to my dad. Hes gonna be pissed lol
Where did you attach hoist? Thanks!
To the tie down point in the bed.
Nice! That was slick!
thanks for the help great idea
No problem, glad to help.
How far up does the bed need to go? I have a come along I can use off of a Eye bolt that is attached to my rafters in my garage.
Couple feet
the bolts closest to the tailgate are they in the middle or on the sides
MrSubaru1387 on the new fuel pump ours came with the electrical wire that hooks to the pump and to the one on the frame ours won't hook to the old one
Hi when I fill my 2000 all the way to filler neck it domps about a qt. On the ground looks like it's coming from above the tank some where. What to do? u think the emissions gismo pope d out.
40yeartrucker
Hard to say. Visual inspection would be my first move. Pull the bed up and see if anything looks out of place. The filler neck hose could have a crack in it as well.
Did u have to remove the rear bolts as well?
No. Loosen halfway.
Hi I did the same thing the fuel gauge was working and after I changed the fuel pump the fuel gauge isn't working any does anyone know what I did wrong?
You may have damaged the float or the connector didn't seat fully on the electric plug.
I have a Two Thousand One fifteen Hundred Dodge Ram, check engine light it's been on probably for 8 years, what could be the problem, thanks.
Have to scan it, pull codes.
Got the new fuel pump in and the fuel gauge is staying on Empty when full. Is this common, or do I need to go back under the bed and do something? Thanks
Shouldn't like an issue with the float.
MrSubaru1387 👌 ok
You can remove all the bolts and have a couple friends help lift the bed off and set it aside.
a cheap cable come a long and a tree would help if you don't have an engine hoist
