  • Hi Hamster Friends!
    Little Steven, the Roborovski hamster also got a Niteangel Multi-Chamber Hide for Christmas 2020 and this is what his current bin cage looks like now that it's installed, yay!
    This new setup seems to be working pretty well. Steven seems interested in all the new things and I’ve begun hiding seeds in various little nooks for him to enjoy finding.
    I by no means feel that my bin cage is “done” or perfect! This is a work in progress and probably always will be, as I will want to give Steven an enriched life while adjusting his surroundings to meet his needs. I felt that it would be helpful to document and share my bin-cage set-up progression for anyone who has hamsters or is looking to get one.
    Thanks for watching!

    About:
    I’m Rachel and I got two Roborovski hamsters in July and September of 2020.
    Sofia and Steven currently live in separate, 200 qt bin cages and couldn’t be more different in personality!
    In Dec 2020, took in two dwarf hamster sisters as part of a foster program for a local hamster rescue. I named them Laverne and Shirley :).
    I am often on the Hamster Hideout Forum late into the night, cramming information about proper diet, cage set ups and so on! I found that knowing the info is one thing, and putting it Into effect is another!
    I started this video series to document my learning and growth in my robo hamster 🐹 caretaking.
    Please leave me a comment and let me know what hamster products you love ❤️ or how you make sure your little ham is happy!

    Oh my goodness his little feet pitter pattering as fast as can be in that wheel is the cutest thing I've seen all day! ❤️🐹🐾
    For the long nail situation, my dwarf was getting that too. I found at an aquarium store a piece of black slate rock. Is a smooth flat rock but it's s surface almost has an emery board like texture. I put his food and water dish on top of it so every time he goes there he has to walk across it. Seems to have helped with his nail growth a lot.

    Hey! Looking for a little advice :)
    Your hamsters are adorable! I have personally had a Russian dwarf hamster called peanut and a Syrian hamster called peppa who recently pasted away. Both of them were easy enough to tame luckily!
    I was wondering now that I am hoping to get a new little one possibly a robo Was it hard to tame yours? I would be getting the little guy from a young age as no hamsters for adoption

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww I’m sorry to hear about Peppa ❤️!
      Robos can be really hard to tame, I feel like some of it is definitely luck.
      Steven, shown in this video, is very sweet, he never bites but is also pretty shy. We have to move slowly and steadily to get him “tamed,” as in- he will now get in our hand for seeds and let us lightly pet his head, but only if he’s feeling brave in that moment.
      Sofia, my other robo I also got when she was pretty young (2 months) and she is much more excited about interaction and seems to sometimes even enjoy being pet... but she also has cage aggression and will attack our 🙌 hands if they aren’t petting her! So we use gloves to practice handling her.
      Both are only about 6-7 months old, so maybe we have more progress to go on them? But we interact with them daily.
      Neither is cuddly or wants to sit in our laps while we give them back rubs, but if you already have one dwarf who get get that experience with, then maybe that’s okay with you?
      I really love my robos, their energy and quirky personalities...but I also love having dwarf hamsters that like some cuddle time, I feel like I kind of need both!
      I hope this helps!

      @@RachelGotHamsters Thank you! I think what I may just do is get my detolf prepared for a dwarf hamster and when getting the hamster I will see which one (Russian dwarf or robo) seems like the right fit as I would be able to care for either. I really appreciate the help and will think on it before doing anything :) 🧡

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a 200 qt bin / 50 gallon bin from Sterilite. It’s a little tricky to measure Bc if some curved edges but most after it’s about 650 sq inches

    If you dont mind me asking, where did you get the clear tubes in stevens enclosure?

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! A link is in the comments for this video. These tubes are definitely larger than the standard Kaytee, they feel safe at least for dwarf hamsters. They don’t have as great traction inside, which is why I have to make sure they aren’t at too great and angle. My dwarves do better at climbing in them than my robos do. Hope this helps!

    Is there an estimate on the whole cage (not the bin or bedding) I already have those but I have a budget of 160$

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, depending on where you’re located (if you’re in the US, then my calculations should be correct) $160 should cover the wheel, multi chamber, moss, water bowl, sand and acrylic tray and wooden house (I believe with some to spare, although prices do fluctuate). Links to everything in this video is in the comments of the video. I hope this helps!
