I planned on doing an older video from PENTATONIX, but when I saw them posting a new video titled "90's Dance Medley", I just had to do this one! Probably the most fun I had during a reaction video so far!
But that does mean you guys can expect another one from PTX pretty soon!

That little touch of autotune in Believe was because Cher was one of the first to use autotune, if not the first. It was for an artistic touch. That was the first time they have use anything but simple reverb and basic eq editing for their video.
they did it already in 12 days of christmas, i think day 7 when Mitch sings in club/house/techno style
Vocoder. Not autotune. It's a vocoder.

They used to make the "Cher effect" as a tribute. Very Nicely done
Autotune had been around for ages before cher used it in her song. She was the first to use it so blatantly as a style choice though
This medley is now my favorite from them. I love everything about it, especially Matt. I just love everything about him. 😍 When you pointed out that killer smile of his, I instantly hit the sub button. This was a great reaction guys. I can't wait to see more. If I may make a suggestion, I'd love to see you react to my other 2 favorites. Their New Rules x Are You That Somebody mash-up and Come Along. Both are really really good and a lot of fun.

After ten years, they are so good now that they can come into the studio, sing it twice with a costume change in between, and boom! the the arranger, Ben Bram, and the producers and sound editors have everything they need to put together a fabulous recording. They read the music, they learn their parts, and usually record twice, both times at perfection. PS I subscribed! I really like your approach to the music and all the many aspects to be discovered when paying attention. Thanks!
Shows their professionalism, and the less time you need in the studios, the cheaper it is as well.
Nah man they record the studio sound first. Then they make the music video by lip syncing. That's how music videos are made

The entire drum kit is in Kevin's throat. This means he can move through drum riffs faster than many professional drummers. He can also make musically percussive sounds a drum kit cannot make. Kevin is a true renaissance man. Look at his bio and, like me, be awed by this young man! BTW - All 6 members (including Avi) seem to be genuinely nice and caring people.
He would have made an excellent doctor, but thank goodness music won out.
I am 68 and have enjoyed music from the 50s onward. Styles change but really good music, especialy dance music, never goes away. 60s Motown, 70s funk, soul and disco, 80s Madonna, Prince and MJ and most of the songs in this medly are all in my dance playlist. I don't dance anymore, but I put it on whenever I need to feel energized.
A contemporary, dance-loving PTX fan... agree with you on all counts!
That's awesome! I also love the 80's! From each era, I love songs, although I don't know as much from the 60's and 70's as from after that period :p
They don't put effects on their songs, as they want to be able to perform them comparably in concert. That being said, they did use autotune on "Believe", but only because Cher used it
They used autotune on "Blue" as well. Or something else. But it was definitely altered to fit the song.
They still use quite a bit of post production on their studio recordings.
No artist, on that level, goes in the studio, does a raw recording and doesn't tweak it at all. Every professional recording edits their sounds at least a little bit. But I could imagine that it wouldn't take them all day to record their voices.

They would all be great of course, though a medley is always so interesting and fun to watch and listen to, in my opinion :p

THey once made a statement that they do not want to create a song they can not do live. 99.98% of what they do is pure them and not editing or auto tune. Now, some are thinking they did auto tune in this one, not to correct something, but to add it as an effect.....not sure, we will have to wait until they start touring again. And, the 90's covered me from when I was 25 to 35......I was dancing in the clubs, disco ball and everything when these were NEW songs. Oh I didn’t know that. But if somebody’d react to one of my vids, I’d want to see that as well, so not surprised in that sense, though they probably have a pretty busy schedule. (Although maybe less than usual, with the whole pandemic)

You ask whether they do much tuning in-studio. PTX has a self-imposed rule that they have to be able to perform something live before they will post the video.

Check the side by side comparison of all the songs done by the Musician. They don't tune Kevin at all! He is that good. G.O.A.T. Greatest Of All Time. Many Pentaholics think he is the best beatboxer, ever! He has a drum kit in his mouth. Check out his solo stuff. Down and Sign of the Times are amazing. He plays Cello at the professional level. He came in 2nd in Yoyo Mah's Cello Competition. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, he also has a Pre-Med Degree from Yale, so if PTX doesn't work out he will have something to fall back on.😃 He got married in September of 2019. He and his wife had a baby girl recently.

They sang this medley live at the concert they did at the Hollywood Bowl in September this year. There's a video from the live stream (so professional quality) it's awesome. You should check it out for comparison, if you haven't already seen it.

Hi Jonathan, I can understand your frustration with pauses, but I have to pauze the video sometimes for copyright issues, otherwise, the video might be blocked (which makes it unwatchable). This has happened to a couple of my videos already as well. What makes it annoying, is that there's no specific explanation on when exactly a video gets blocked or not. Because of this, it is different for every video. That's why I try to lower the chance of this happening by pausing sometimes. So, some reactions might get away with pausing less, but we just can't know exactly how often we should pause or not.

Yeah it's impossible not to groove with this, specially if you danced those songs in the 90s
They used some autotuned voices just to keep the original feeling of the song (in "Believe" and "Blue" songs I believe...), but they didn't need it "to pitch" obviously...
Amazing job of Matt on the "Boom boom" song fast-octaves-jumping in the bass
I know it's hard work for them doing this kind of medleys (arranging, editing, etc), but I would very much appreciated if it lasted 2-3 minutes more... too short!

Well, in the cover of Cher, there is autotune, but not to correct their pitch. They apparently did to represent the original, as they use it in the original version as well. :D

Kevin is outstanding and in an interview ETCanda he said he didn't think he could do extreme Electronic Dance Music. He and his wife just had their first baby about a week ago. He also has a musical degree from Yale.

Just before you go on you said... you are stopping and starting every 5/seconds it is quite disconcerting. So please try and stop less times. Thank you.( you are charming though) !
Thx for your comment Paul! Though, it's a little exaggeration to say I pauze every 5 seconds :p But to explain, if I pauze less often, the chance of the video getting blocked raises (already happened a few times, including a PTX video), in which case I have to edit in an extra (or 2) intermezzo(s) into the video, which takes a lot of time because I have to re-export and re-upload it again. That also totally breaks the vibe of the video in my opinion, more than me ACTUALLY pauzing during the video.
So I hope you understand my reasoning behind this :) Thx for the support Paul!

@@YBPlaysMusic Strong recommend. He slows it down to a ballad and makes Cher cry. The version of "Who Wants to Live Forever" with Queen is fantastic. Adam was a worthy choice to pick up Freddie"s microphone.

Hi Scott! I understand your opinion, but we do these videos because we have a lot of fun doing them. Also, whilst the video is playing, it's hard to understand each other if we're saying something, so pausing the video makes it easier for us to understand each other. And of course, the biggest reason we pause the video, is to prevent the video from getting blocked (had it happen twice already, and then I need to edit in an intermezzo, re-export the video and re-upload the video as well, which takes a lot of time).
I hope you can understand why we're doing it like this.
Though, for reaction videos that I'm doing alone, in general, the pauses will probably be shorter, as in that case, there's no dialogue. :p

Way to much talking
Nikki, thank you for your comment. I do understand that you prefer less talking, and I can try to limit the amount of time we spend talking but we’re also having fun with these videos, I know we can’t please everyone who watches it, and I’m sorry for that.
I also have to pauze sometimes for copyright purposes and there’s no definitive amount of time for this, so I rather limit the risk for videos being blocked (which has happened for a few videos of mine already)
I’m sure there are also enough of other reactions to this video with less conversation in between, or the original video, if you really don’t want any breaks at all. I hope you can understand my point.

And since you said that you are both dancers, you should checkout "Kaycee Rice & Sean Lew" They are So Talented and are only 18 &19, but in most of their videos they are between 15-18!!!! They have Solo work & Duo Dances!!!! They are Always Si In Sync with each other!!!! They were also on "World of Dance"!!!!
