    So incredible to see a young organist, of such talent, rapidly rising on the world stage. I came of age listening, teary-eyed, to the genius of Virgil Fox and E. Power Biggs, neither of whom are with us any longer. She's just incredible, and such a joy to listen to, when it seems everyone else in the world is listening to "music of lesser stature."
    I would SO MUCH love to her performing Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Dorian)" ..... a lesser-known piece, but one of my own all-time favorites. It was the introductory piece to the "seating music" when my lovely bride and I were wed many years ago.

    Fascinating that this wonderful piece of music is interpreted in subtly different ways by different artists. This is one of my very favorite interpretations.

    I don't know what an "Associate Artist" is, but a great number of people would have never heard of the Royal Albert Hall without Anna Lapwood.

    I always heard about drummers being four-brained for the four different things they do with 2 hands and 2 legs in intricate drum patterns. Then I learned about organists. Then, thanks to YT, I was introduced to Anna Lapwood. Im definitely a few brains short.

    • @voraciousreader3341

      I certainly hope so! Every single organist of any value has to find that “inner Bach” and learn to set it free with a great deal of confidence and credibility, or they certainly wouldn’t graduate from any institution of higher learning! She also wouldn’t have a career!

    Brings back the joy of hearing the great Gillian Weir, then just a bit younger than Anna, in her debut concert at London's Royal Festival Hall. Both players are hugely affirmative of new young talent. That's wonderful.

      You start on a piano or keyboard

    • @ALAPINO
      @ALAPINO 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most that I knew, started under an organist at churches or cathedrals.
      If I remember correctly, it wasn't complicated, it just looked imposing.
      But yes, as someone said, learning klavier, keyboard, piano was the first step. I could never get the foot work down, so I never took it seriously. Mainly just trying to pretend I was Phantom of the Opera or the like (the first few bars of Toccata and Fugue) when the cathedral was empty.

    • @SPrescott2611
      @SPrescott2611 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      No requirement to start on piano... in some cases knowing how to play the piano can actually get in the way a little and cause complications.

    How do you know what the numbered couplers do and what are the extra pedals please?

    • @sueboettcher
      @sueboettcher ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The simple explanation is that she can set those numbered buttons to any combination of stops she wants so she can change things around quickly during the performance. I presume what you mean by the extra pedals are the extra toe buttons that are above the row of regular pedals. Those are exactly the same thing as the numbered buttons under the keyboards only you can press them with your foot if you need to.

    • @jeannebouwman1970
      @jeannebouwman1970 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sueboettcher also in the middle there is a swell pedal to open the swell box, which creates a crescendo effect for certain stops

    • @ds1868
      @ds1868 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jeannebouwman1970 The RAH has three expression pedals, as three divisions are enclosed within large boxes with shutters, the Orchestral Swell and Solo divisions. Apart from the usual toe pistons there is also a sequencer piston for very rapid registration changes.

      He definitely would have played this. However, he didn't play every instrument in the orchestra and he wrote music for all the instruments 😀

    It's reading that fearsome music that I find incredible (especially three lines at once) even if it is only a reminder for an expert. The staff/stave seems such a useless tool for accommodating the range of notes available!
