    Great job guys! From one Hamakua farmer to another, I don’t recommend poison on the aina. Something gonna grow there eventually and you have to decide if you just keep adding poison. Think permaculture: the problem is the solution; nature’s fences last the longest and need the least maintenance. 🤙

    • @shawnpila
      @shawnpila  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks man I totally agree! Our friend actually made this solution for us that was made with salt, vinegar and dawn dish soap. She uses it around their fence lines etc. I forget the exact ratio but we’ll go over it in Episode 5 😬

      Thank you thank you! You know I never really took TH-cam seriously in the past and spent my entire career producing material for others, but I think I’m ready to commit and see where this goes. And comments like these definitely helps me to believe that I can do it, so thank yo for that. And thanks for subscribing 😁

      Thank youuuu! And we found the property listing on the app, Zillow. We then looked at the property multiple times and finally after about 6 months or so we made an offer and took out a land loan. Closed the deal weeks before the market spiked, so super grateful for the timing. Are you folks in Hawaii or are you planning on coming over?

    • @shawnpila
      @shawnpila  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol yeah we used 12.5-gauge brace wire. The 10.0-gauge is ideal but the 12.5 is actually way easier to work with. And then the “key” is the final locking mechanism at the end. Way better than using wire clamp connectors or clips :)

    Aloha, I’m about to do this with 10 acres. What were your costs for the fencing and additional labor needed, if I may ask? It would be super helpful if you included those in your future videos (land/rentals/solar/catchment/etc.)
    Also, I’m gonna reach out to you for Jesse’s contact as well. I saw your email above. Mahalo.

      Nevermind. I just saw your season recap where you listed some prices :). Keep up the great work.

    • @shawnpila
      @shawnpila  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! Yeah it takes about $1,500-3,500 for materials to fence off 2.5-acres but we were more on the $1,500 side because I had a bunch or reused wooden posts and got some discounted t-posts from a cousin. We did all the labor ourselves so that cut the costs a ton as well. It took a bit longer but we had fun lol.
      Also Jesse is back with his union gig so he’s not doing fencing anymore, but if you’re on Big Island I may have other contacts.
