I ordered my Beryl 556 last weekend from AOA. They seem to be going fast. I opted for the full dress version just so I have all the stuff. I may change it around a bit. I hear the solid stock works better with the height to optic issue.

I think you made the right choice, getting the fully dressed one. But if you're ever looking for the plastic handguards, I have the set I took off of mine. I know I'll never put them back on

Wish they had a low profile pic rail option. Getting sites with adapters to fit weavers is a pain in the ass.

Thanks for doing this compare and contrast! Optic rails were unobtainium last summer when I bought my 556 gun so I went with a Gen 2 TWS dogleg and have been very happy with it. I’m running the original folding stock with an EoTech and have the same kind of chin weld you are getting with the weaver rail. While the Beryl rail is nice to have from a clone standpoint - I do think there are better optic mounting options out there.

100% agree there are better options. I feel like the RS Regulate mounts are the best for guns with side rails. And I'm a big fan of the Attero Arms mounts if you don't need a lot of rail space. Haven't tried the TWS dogleg as of yet; I feel like I hear mixed reviews. Rob Ski's reviews allude to it being a solid option, but I've seen quite a few posts on social media about them loosening up over time. But then again, social media is social media... Lol

Great video man. Almost no videos on these at all, definitely none this in depth.
I have a weaver rail and what I've found is that you can find weaver adapters for a lot of optics, for example I currently have a mini acog adapter and they work well and aren't too expensive. Another thing I've noticed is that at least with the single example I have on a fox you cannot remove the rail without simultaneously removing the dustcover and lifting the rear sight, kind of a three hand job. Is this the same on the Beryl? I personally don't know. The one other thing I've noticed is that the weight is spread out on the receiver instead of lying a little farther back like with a side rail which makes the rifle feel noticeably more front heavy.
Because of this I'm tempted to get a side rail mount to my fox and save the Beryl rail for when I get an actual Beryl which I am saving up for. This would help with rifle balance and be a little over half the weight of the Beryl rail.
Maybe you have some perspective on this and maybe I'm trying to minmax way too hard on this. Regardless thanks for the video, really cool to finally get something on this really cool and unique rail. Definitely want a Beryl

I have seen other vids where people have to remove the top cover to get the rail on and off, but on mine I don't have to with either the picatinny or Weaver rail.
Side rail mount really is good option. I have an RS Regulate on my SAM7K and have been really happy with it. Super light weight and there's several different options to fit your needs. Plus, you'll definitely want to use your archer mount for when you get your Beryl

@@regulardudegungearreviewsh3132 yeah that's a good plan. I have a ribbed dust cover on another rifle that I can try on my fox and see if it's an issue specific to the flat dust overs that WBP uses since it does seem thicker. We'll see if it slides off then out of curiosity.

@@regulardudegungearreviewsh3132 I should update, I ended up ordering another dustcover and although the finish sadly doesn't match it does work to mount or dismount the rail without removing the dustcover. The WBP dustcover was too thick and that's what was causing the issues.
Overall I'm thinking I prefer a side rail as this feels heavy but I'm not sure I want to spend more money right now. I will say it certainly is durable though

@@regulardudegungearreviewsh3132I just got mine the other day. I'm a bit nervous about installing it tho. Should I use a mallet? Remove the dust cover? Yours popped on easy and slick.

I’ve got a weaver rail on my 762 beryl. Not a huge fan of the weight, I might get a Texas Weapon systems top cover instead

I know Rob Ski has done some thorough testing of the TWS top covers, and he rated them pretty well. I know just for me personally, if I have a Beryl I'm only using the Beryl optic rail. The weight doesn't bother me, but I also have AR's up in the 13-14 lb range. Lol

do the rails return to zero if you take it off to clean the rifle?

    • @regulardudegungearreviewsh3132

I haven't looked into it myself, but I have read that they do. I guess I'll find out tomorrow at the range, because I've taken it off a couple of times since I zeroed the optic!
