I did my service in Kiruna as an arctic ranger sniper, and the winter survival training has been with me for my entire life. Great expirience.

The icebath is done with schoolchildren in some schools in Sweden, and ofcourse the rest of the Swedish Armed Forces, conscript classes and so on.

Swedish parachute Rangers are more like long range patrol or special forces reconnaissance/sabotage working in small groups. It's not like an airborne assault force in large numbers.

It was 7,5 months for the basic grunt, like tank loader, artilleri loader, logistics driver, infantry soldier. Group/section commanders of the basic units like infantry, logistics and such did 10 months, troop(basically two groups) commanders of behind troops like staff and logistics did 12 months and the platoon commanders for the basic units and specialists did 15 months, so a infantry platoon leader did 15 months, a paratroop soldier did 12 or 15 I think. And the company commander was a reserve officer who did refesher training every other year or sometimes an army officer of lower rank. There were Reserve officers that were battalion commanders but for the high end units and brigades the commanders were always career officers
The screening for the different assignments were based on physical and mental abilities

Special forces in Sweden are called SOG. It is several other groups on lower level but the best Sweden has is SOG.

SOG is special operatives with military training like Delta Force, not military special forces like Rangers, Navy SEALs or Swedish Jägare.

The for sure let you have the softer experience with the luxury of making fires, sleeping indoors and the time to gather food.

Conscription may be an alien concept for other countries as the goal is not quite what it seems. The entire point with the conscripted solder is to train them to be reservists. This means that just about then entire conscription is spent training in different ways and practical application of said training.

I never liked it how docuseries add the same elements as dramas do for dramatic effect. Sound effects and color tinting, for example. No, the desert isn't sepia, the snowy arctic isn't lit blue.

Nowadays, it is harder to apply to parachute rangers, you need to be selected in your military training by officers, maybe has changed

No, you simply need to apply and make the cut. To apply the only prerequisite is that you've completed your basic military training, usually 9-12 months and thar you have a drivers licence. The tests you go through once youve applied are quite gruelling though, and your competition is most likely tough as well

When you have to make a comparison like this between NATO (without the USA) and then Russia, you have to have fresh numbers and not old numbers. For the most part Russia is not true today, but they have much less of all military equipment and anathlete soldiers have greatly decreased in Russia, since the full scale invasion of Ukraine. Just take all types of Russian tanks, Russia has lost over 15,000 of them. If you take soldiers, around a thousand Russian soldiers are killed/injured per day. At the present time, Russia cannot make any marcination in any other country, as they are partly busy with the war in Ukraine. Then, as I said, you don't have enough military vehicles, war equipment such as weapons and ammunition of various types. The proof of this is that Putin goes around other dictatorships to get hold of this.
