One of the best left jabs in boxing history! Quartey was one of the best Welterweights of the 90's very tough, skilled and fundamentally sound. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
The left jab is my favorite punch, and he has a great one! A very humble and calm fighter who wasn't overly aggressive. Notice how he sometimes doesn't go in for the kill once he sees that his opponent is hurt.
What I like about a fighter it's the ability to be calm and have good motion. You see a fighter like Mister Quartey, you Know that man could been champion of the world for a good decade if theres was no round like the old time 20s. His controls of the ring and pace are unbelievable...
he was right handed but always seem to favor his left waiting for that finish with the right. unfortunately most opponents fell to his left jabs tho that wasn't his plan lol. He made us proud from Ghana
His left was a thing of destructive beauty. I’d pick Hearn’s left over his by a hair, simply due to the length and accuracy, but I’d listen to an argument for his being the best as many have suggested. Great video as always, haNZ.
@@chriswelcome8102 and yet hearns jab left leonard with dislocated retina. If you think hearns jab was just for finding range. You know nothing about the hitman.
Great video! And just my two cents about Quartey's biggest fight - Oscar had some good moments early and a great closing flurry, but I still thought Ike deserved to win that fight 8-4. Anyway, I hope Ike's doing well wherever he is.
Went to my hometown the other day ...we're both from almost the same hometown ... he was a mess ... didn't believe this was the guy that schooled Oscar. I was so shocked I couldn't even greet him then he introduced himself and stretched his hand to shake mine. Been smoking and drinking a lot. It's a shame. Azumah Nelson on the other hand is continuing his legacy in incredible fashion. This is life for you.
@@raymondarmah8353 Unfortunately he is not lying. Ike is still in Accra....and l can confirm he is not the same person you knew as a boxer. Drinking and and stuff like that got the best of him...
Clarence M he probably jabs to the body more than to the head. He used that punch a lot, especially in his younger years. Not many fighters are trained to defend it because even fewer are quick enough to risk throwing it. But you’re hitting your man in the pit of his stomach which is basically the softest area you can hit. He had Corrales dropping his hands every time he feinted.
If only we got to see Trinidad vs Quartey. Would've been a waaaay better fight than the DLH vs Tito fight. Quartey narrowly came up short in his fight against DLH which would've set him and Tito up. (I thought Quartey won) Awesome fighter. Too much inactivity hurt his career.
Please tell me the name of the soundtrack song? I saw Ike quartey fight Vince philips I was 12 years old. I loved his style and that jab so much he influenced me to start boxing. Ike beat dlh and Forrest and was robbed but I also thought the layoffs between big fights hurt him.
I always a huge fan of him. I think he got screwed out of the victory in some of his bigger fights but that’s boxing. He still had a great career and, to me, one of the best welterweights ever.

P4P the most complete jab in boxing, IMHO. Powerful, accurate, quick and used for effect, not just as a stay-busy punch. Great stuff!
That left jab by Quartey was one of the most jolting in boxing history, almost like a power punch.
I screamed when I saw this in my feed.
Thank you so much haNZA!
Honestly the best jab in boxing, hands down, I’m glad someone made a video on his left hand, well need good job bro 🤛
Ike Quartey was amazing. True boxing fans.
Another beautiful executed video by HaNZAgod thank you, Ike Quartey was a brilliant champion.
Been waiting very very patiently for this thank you
He was robbed of what should’ve been his signature career win (De LaHoya). Such a shame. Good fighter. One of the best jabs in the business.
a couple of times tho..
No one got robbed more then sweet pea from Mexican fighters but you also got to understand Mexicans mostly controlled boxing in that era.
One of the toughest fights to judge could’ve went either way !

The list of best jabs in history goes something like this: Larry Holmes, Tommy Hearns, Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston, and then Ike Quartey.

If you look up underachiever in the dictionary of boxing, his face is on it. He should've been a 1st ballot hall of famer.
Underrated is more like it the kid put up his Dukes with anybody very entertaining fighter
But his inactivity killed his greatness. He had hall of fame gifts but won’t make it. That’s why I consider him an underachiever.
Ppl get lazy bro
I'd put Zab in first place
Switch Broner with Quartey and you'd be correct
His signature punch the "Bullet Jab" is along the mexican jab and the flicker jab, one of the best weapons any boxer can have.
