    Stoked for this new part of my career. Had no idea Canon would be releasing such a beast in the R5 or that the C200 would be as affordable as it is currently. It looks like this is going to change so much for so many. Amped!

    Update: I bought a used C200 for just under $4,200 USD. Pumped. Now praying every day that the R5 is less than $4000, but I'm not hopeful on that one.

      Eric Floberg thoughts on buying a new C200B for now $4000? I have a 1D X Mark II (with James Miller/Atomos CLOG3) and it’s been amazing, but since I have a 7 inch monitor and other rigging, makes sense to get the 200B right?

    • @EricFloberg
      @EricFloberg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Honestly, I don't think anyone should buy a 2+ year old camera brand new. There's just so much savings to have with getting a used one, and almost no reason to pay the extra. Totally your call on if you'd rather get the C200B. I wanted all of the bells and whistles because I plan on using the top handle, arm, & monitor to rig out my R5 as either an A or B cam for specific circumstances. But, now that I'm looking online, seems to be really difficult to find a C200B used..If you could find a price like mine, I would just get the C200 and keep/sell the accessories.

    I do only stills and I was also looking for a backup to my 5D MK4. So I bought an RP and I did not like it at all. I missed the sound of the mirror and the image quality and shutter speed were not that great. I also have 4 EF L lenses and I did not want to get rid of them, because they do a fantastic job. So I sold the RP and I was still looking for an alternative with better shutter speed for sports photography when I came across a second hand 1DX MK2. I got it for € 2,000 and had some repairs done (Canon support did a great job here :-) ). This is the best camera I ever had! Great image quality, comparitively low noise at high ISO, incredible shutter speed, sharp, fast and precise AF etc. I would not sell it until I buy the MK 3 one day, when it gets affordable one day. I do not want to consider mirrorless cameras right now because they do not offer the required shutter speed for sports. If I still had the money, I would buy the 1DX MK3 without hesitating.

    Dang! Currently i have a c100 mki and i love the fact that it is all in one. But i would love the hybrid option. My stills camera is the 5D3 and again i love it. We shall see if Covid lets me earn enough this year to buy a 1dx mkii and have some fun!

  • @islandimageandmotion
    @islandimageandmotion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! Go with the C200! It’s my daily driver and I’ve recently paired it with a 1DXii as a B-cam but also wanted a still cam as I do photography on the side! And you’re right, 1DXii are dropping in price as I got mine on eBay with an offer I couldn’t refuse. My workflow is usually pumping out 1080p content for corporate and government projects so speed is a factor. The C200 wrapper is easy to edit with also and when the time comes, the C200 will be still be relevant with it’s Raw Light...great video and good luck with the upgrade! Cheers from Saipan 🤙🏾

      Justin Rohrer $3,200 (good deal?)…shutter count less than 7,000 and mostly used it for video…guy had to let it go to recover some cost after getting a C300 mkiii.

    Loved my 1DX MKII, but it was a season I moved out of. I love my Black Magic Pocket 4k. Beautiful dynamic range and at the price. Rigging is a necessity, but not a bad thing. Black Magic's BRAW is insane! Seriously stepped my game up in the cinema world. Have you considered the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6 G2? Such a phenomenal choice, especially when paired against the C200.

    My advice is definitely the C200 over the pocket 6K. Owned both. Built in NDs, dual XLR, great preamps. Matches great with my 1DXIII. However, that advice is based on my shooting style and experience owning both (and pocket 4K). Your mileage may vary. Loved the video as always. 👍

  • @YoFreddy
    @YoFreddy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Eric. Heads up if you go c200 route. The menu for the c200 is more complex, it is a bit confusing for mics inputs selections, and little quirks like the marking sure SD slot doors are closed all the way. Make sure you plan some time to learn it before going on a shoot.
    As for the BMPCC6K (my B Cam), it has much easier menus to work with and the ability to have external HD recording is great for longer recording. The issue here is more physical with the terminal covers being annoying and in the way of the tightly packed mini connections. It chews through the little LP-E6N internal batteries making rigging the unit with a vmount battery a necessity. External monitor will likely be needed when rigged. All said, it was about 650 or so on the cost equation. It also adds to the set up time.
    To do over again, I probably would have just sprung for a second c200.

    I'm a 1DX Mark 2 owner in the market for a C200...I bought the 1DX Mark 2 when I was still doing a lot of still as well as video, but I'm now focusing 100% on video so the C200 just makes so much more sense for me - especially for the built-in NDs and XLR input. I'm tempted to keep the 1DX mark 2 as b-cam or because it's so easy to throw on a Ronin S when you don't want to rig out a Movi Pro...but, like you, also very keen to see what Canon will do with the R5. It will be hard to hold onto the 1DX Mark 2 then and makes sense to sell whilst it still has some value!

    I am still a Canon DSLR shooter at this point with the 90D, but I am pretty sure this will be my last DSLR as I migrate over to mirrorless with my next upgrade, but sorry to say probably across brand too from Canon to Sony. Why? I am a stills guy that shoot birds. I may film a couple of clips of birds from time to time, but I am not from a younger generation that love shooting videos. And for shooting birds, Canon simply has left out a huge gap in their lens line-up and that is they simply don't have any super zooms. I am already using the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3, great lens for the money, but the BEST super zoom right now in my opinion is Sony's 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G lens. I imagine it would be like a Canon L lens version of the Sigma. Plus, at the end of the day I am just a hobbyist, as such I just don't see myself dropping US$13K on a a huge prime like the 600mm f/4 or 800mm f/5.6. Then, you pair that up with an A7R IV, that should be a pretty sweet setup.

    I've been HEAVILY thinking about the pocket 6K for my commercials work and maybe try it at a wedding and see how it goes...but even being able to have 4k or 1080p in proress 10 bit with a log pp would be INSANE...for alot of the stuff a one man run and gun team does 10 bit with log profiles are about the equivalent to RAW for us, gives all that room to play with color grades and we are already use to shooting correctly in the field when I comes to white balance and ISO so RAW wouldn't be the used alot I don't think...and not to mention RAW files are so freaking huge, it would take at least 10 TB to do one wedding in RAW 😂 (lord I hope no one is doing that)
    All that said I think for what you maybe want from a video camera I think the pocket 6k would fit your needs better...all the 1080p and 4k codecs shoot 10bit, you can use 120p slow mo if you want...and if you want RAW you can use 6k up to 50fps which is incredible

      Totally understand, and I was actually leaning towards the Pocket 6k, but my friend got the C100markii, and we shot this video with that. As soon as I saw the combo of autofocus with direct XLR input + a teleprompter, I was sold. Knowing that the C200 has even beefier specs than the C100ii, and having a lot of confirmation from friends that it's wonderful to use, it pretty much solidified why I wanted it. Might get a Pocket 6k as a B cam down the road though!

      Lol, no it's not. I will essentially be paying $1000-$1200 for getting the used C200 I already purchased since making this video, after selling my 1DXii. It is a significant upgrade in quality, and will make my workflow wildly faster when making youtube and patreon videos, which is 80-90% of my work these days. As far as the R5s go, I've been waiting for that upgrade for over 2 years now, and if I care about upping the quality of my wedding films and all other work, that is a very sensible upgrade. I'm assuming I will spend around $6k at most out of pocket with the new R5s and a couple of lenses after selling my 5D4s and a couple of EF lenses. Hi Eric! Great video as ever and so impressed on the running as well (making me feel guilty...). I bought the EOS R last March and the RF 24-105mm f4 L and it is just so good for stills and video. The 'tilty-flippy' screen makes shooting so much easier. Still have my 5D Mk III which I use quite a bit, but for the R-series, I would get the RF Control Ring Adapter. My EF glass just sings on that and with the advanced focusing apart from the extra length of lens + adapter, it feels like native glass. Looking at the R5 myself (price permitting) but top of the list is the RF 50mm f1.2 L, but the price is still pretty eye watering over here in the UK.
    Do you still use your Sigma 24mm 1.4 much as I have a very similar lens collection to you apart from Sigma 50mm Art and 24mm TS-E rather than a 24mm 1.4?

    With so many video cameras out there why would you want to use a DSLR?? Canon offers a very impressive line of video cameras designed to for videography. They have equipment for the amateur like me, I chose a Canon Vixia HF 40. They retail for $1300.
    If you're a serious amateur then they have the XA line for professional videographers/film makers. These camcorders retail from $1200 to $3500. If you're a cinematographer then the Cinema EOS line is for you. Many of these video cameras are designed to use the Canon EF series of lenses. Imagine that.
    For what you pay for in a top of the line Canon DSLR you can buy one of Canon's Vixia or XA and have change left to buy other necessary equipment for your videography assignments.
    I bought a pre-owned EOS 5D five years ago. It is such a clean copy you couldn't tell it from a new one in an unopened box. I also have the aforementioned Vixia. I refuse to upgrade to a DSLR that records video because I believe that requirement can be accomplished with my Vixia.
