      @@jacen3716 Hi Jace. I think the mark 1 is dated for 2018. As it came out in 2012, technology has gotten so much better those years AND the price has dropped as well on other models. Check out the Canon 5d mark iv as an alternative: amzn.to/2PasfJK

      @@PaulHeimlund For action photography and wildlife, I heard the 1dx is great because of the high speed. I'm not sure though. What's your opinion? (I'm getting the mk1 because I can get it for 2k used instead of 4k for the mk2)

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jace N If you're going to use it for action still photography, the 1DX mk1 is definitely a great camera. But just like @hemidesign says, the video quality is below par in 2018/19. IMHO 2k is a lot of money to spend on "older" technology, like the 1dx mk1. It is still very powerful in burst mode (12FPS) though.I guess it comes down to your specific needs and if the 12FPS is essential for your work, or if eg 7-10 FPS is enough.Check out this article where they compare the 1DX with the 5D mk iv: www.imaging-resource.com/cameras/canon/1dx/vs/canon/5d-mark-iv/

    Have you checked out the Fuji X-T3? I agree with all your points and I really want a 1dx mkii but the X-T3 has realllly intriguing specs, almost similar to the canon and at a much more affordable price. Wondering what your thoughts are on it. I’ve always loved Canon, and am slightly concerned about jumping ship especially because of the lenses and peripherals I’d need to shoot (mostly video, some photo) will add up and probably make me want to stay with whatever brand I’m with. But from what I’ve seen the X-T3 is a beast and very competitive- dual card slots, high bitrate, great colors, cheaper, great glass. What do you think?

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jason! Great question. Although I haven't actually used the Fujifilm X-T3, the specs are very promising, especially for that price. From what I've seen the colors are amazing as well. However, the 1D X Mark ii have considerably higher bitrate, so you will have more data in each frame. But is it worth paying 4x more for it? If budget is not your main issue and you already know you have paid jobs lined up I'd go for the 1DX, especially if you already have Canon lenses. But it is expensive...
      If you're starting out and do not have loads of paid projects coming up, I'd consider the Fuji.
      Hope this help ;)
      Have a nice one!

    It would have been amazing if Canon gave us LOG upgrade to the 1dxii for Christmas this year but oh well. I'll stick with my James Miller Log profiles they grade really well and I think is on par with CLog. I posted this in a few other videos but I'll say it again, I am fully happy with my 1dxii upgrade in 2018. I upgraded from a 5Diii and I couldn't be happier. I am a still shooter at heart however I want to get more into video for personal use and some small video projects and paid work so for me the 1dxii made the most sense. The fact that it has so much capability still today is remarkable. Yet it has some downsides like the files are HUGE but really only in 4k 60p. But like you mentioned it's because of the 800mbps is just INSANE but makes for such a smooth and detailed image it's unreal. Even at 1080 120p it's something like 360mbps which is over double of the sony or fuji currently I'm almost certain. You just get WAY more information and well that's to me why the files are monstrous.
    For me too it's just ease of use. I can just literally flick a switch from photo and be shooting 4k 60p and then I have a button set up "fn" and then be shooting 1080p 120fps and my settings are all good, then back to photo or live view photo and back to video so simple. The ruggedness is outstanding too and I have no doubts I could go anywhere with this and it will not fail me.
    And the AF for me is just where it's a beast. I mean it's so simple and accurate it just works.
    Last, yeah I was in the same boat too. I was like ehhhh I'm sure we will see a replacement around this time next year 2019 and then it will be on sale either before Christmas or even Jan 2020 for Olympics however it's going to be the normal 6500-7000$ and will probably be sold out for some time. Sure it might have some improvements but that is all unknown at this time.
    If I were to be buying on I would do it now, you can get a nice used one or "refurbished" on on KEH or MPB or even Canon with a 1 year warranty for a pretty good deal. I traded my 5D in and only really paid 2300$ out of pocket for mine with only 8k shutter clicks. There is always a nice used 1Dc too if you want that LOG and still 4k just not so much AF and slow Motion but could be had for about 2300-3000$ BUt to me the extra 1000$ is worth it for the 1DXii

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your input and great tips, Joshua! And totally agree in basically everything you're saying. I'd trade in many Christmas presents for a LOG upgrade for the 1dxii😂
      Will check out the James Miller Log profiles, sounds interesting. Cheers!

    • @jdpst20
      @jdpst20 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulHeimlund Yeah they are only 15$ or something usually on sale since it's been out forever now but it's been specifically designed around the 1dxii and other canon cameras that don't have LOG. You get 3 versions of LOG settings to add to your camera and fill the three empty slots. They grade pretty nicely

      can the 4k quality be compared to the gh5 or a7iii?

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bridgeboyMUSIC Hey! Not really. The GH5 has a micro 4/3 sensor, not full frame. Furthermore the Mbps (data information) on the GH5 is only 150Mbps in 50/60fps, compared to 800Mbps on the 1DX mk II (GH5 reaches 400Mbps in 24/25/30fps). Although the Sony a7iii is full frame, it maxes out at 100Mbps.To sum it up: the Canon 1DX Mark II has MUCH more information in each frame, so the image quality will be better. That is also one of the reasons why the Canon is a much more expensive camera.😉

      I have a C200 but part of me wants to just downgrade because I feel like I have too much camera and thought about getting this camera instead, but I’ve heard the 1080p is absolute garbage. Is that true?

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexmatthew375 Tough choice. I was looking into the c200 as well, but was surprised of the low Mbps in 4k, which is only 150 vs 800 on the 1dx mark ii.
      The Mbps on the 1dx mk ii in HD is 180 in 60p and only 90 in 30/24p. I do see a quite big image quality drop between HD and 4k, so I shoot everything in 4k and then downscale to HD. This way the HD video delivered to the client is super crisp and looks fantastic overall.
      Some of the pros with your c200 is the Cinema RAW Light codec, clog and built in ND filters. But as you say, it might be too much camera...

    What do you think of the 1DX II vs the C200?

    • @langdons2848
      @langdons2848 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a C200 as an A camera and a 1DX MkII as a B camera. The C200 (shooting RAW) is a much better camera (love the built in ND filters especially), with better dynamic range and much more flexibility in post. Ideally, I would shoot with two of them.
      That said, using the same lenses, if I expose the shot correctly on the 1DX, then it is difficult to tell the difference between them once they are colour corrected and graded. The 1DX holds its own in everything but the toughest lighting conditions, where the C200 will always win.
      The biggest difference really is their usability. The C200 is faster to set up and work with. It retains its settings if you have to power off and on. You can run it on mains power, you can easily mount accessories like mics, comes with an external monitor, has XLR inputs etc, etc. It's a professional video camera and its really good at doing that.
      The 1DX is a cracking still camera (which I shoot a lot of) that also happens to be able to do very high quality video as well. I love them both, because they are the right tools for the various jobs I do.
      So the question is: what's the job you are trying to do?

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marc, I love the specs of the C200, especially the codec Cinema RAW Light. XLR inputs are also a great feature, as you can connect pro mics directly to the camera. If you ONLY shoot videos I would go for the C200, but if you also need to take pictures I'd go for the 1DX mk ii. That's what I "had to" do.
      Cheers!

      Hey! The 5d mk 4 is newer, but cannot compare to the 1D X Mark ii when it comes to video specs. It's got a lower bitrate in 4K (500 compared to 800), has a bigger crop factor (1.74 vs 1.3) and does not shoot slow motion in 120fps in HD, only 720p which is pretty pointless these days.
      Now, that doesn't mean it's a bad camera. It can actually produce better still images, as it's got a bigger sensor. As long as you learn the limits of your camera, I'm pretty sure you can achieve great results.
      Thanks for the input and have great week!

    I think when people are ready to spend 6K on a top pro model camera they don't need an advice.

    Maybe if it was like... the same price as the a7iii I would get it, and if it had Clog

      @PaulHeimlund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael! Although the a7iii have great specs, the 1dx mark ii is in a different league. E.g. 14fps vs 10fps continuous mode, 4k vs UHD video resolution, and the reason why I went for the 1dx mark ii the Mbps in 4K video: 800Mbps vs 100Mbps. You have soooo much more information in each frame, which makes it much easier to color grade and the picture is sharper. So, these things (and others) make the 1dx mark ii more expensive.
      Thanks for your input and happy new year!

    But 1dx Mark II 4K is actually crop.

      @PaulHeimlund  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you’re right. There’s a 1.3 crop factor in 4k. Should have stated that in the video ;)
