    Very clever to apply the paint /gel medium onto the board instead of the gel plate to lift the image. I can definitely see some advantages to doing it that way round. Good call! Yeah the reds and warm tones are my favourite.

    @AngelBomb5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for another awesome video! I had been playing with gel plates (inspired by you) but somewhere along the way I got disenchanted with my results. A sophomore slump, perhaps? 😉 Anyhow, this second piece on the painted background is very inspiring. I like the idea of printing on canvas boards, they’re fairly cheap and like you say, easy to sand and build up & take down layers. No worries about “wasting” paper on sub-par prints, just paint over it and carry on. You are doing great work and it’s more appreciated than you know! ♥️🎨

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi AngelB, your comment totally resonates. Those slumps!!! I think that's why I am into mixed media - if I get disenchanted I can fall back on another approach and have a break. Mixing approaches in one piece often reminds me of techniques I may have shelved for a while. For instance, in this experiment, I saw that transfer drawing and it was screaming stencil! The sun is out in England, so I will be in the garden making stuff as much as possible so canvas boards and sanding and spraying will be front of my mind for a while. Hang in there and ride those slumps!!!

    Fantastic, I’ve not long came across your channel and it’s been dominating my viewing. I made my own plates at one time because Gelli Plates were/are incredibly expensive in NZ. Eventually a friend in the US took pity on me and gifted me one. I have to admit that the homemade ones sometimes made stunning textures if I got the recipe wrong and they cracked otherwise they were just fine.
    What I was wondering was how many thin layers of acrylic paint can you pull at one time having let them dry between times.
    Also, look out for Molotow masking fluid pens . . . a recent revelation for me. Oh, and purple glue sticks . . . You can see where you’ve put it and it dries clear!

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Wendy - will definitely look out for the pens you suggest, thanks. And I love the purple glue stick suggestion!!! I regard to your question.... I've pulled A LOT of dry layers, maybe 5 or 6, in one but found I needed to pull them with a decent quality paint, use heavy paper that had no paint layers already dry on it, and I left it to dry for a good long time : )

    Your expertise with the gel plate is outstanding! The prints you pull are always so clean and successful. For the placing issue, did you know there is a placing guide available from geli arts?

    Thanks for this very informative video - I appreciate it. In this video, and the prior video you mention using canvas board. Is your canvas board smooth? When I transfer to canvas board, the transfer is uneven (still good just not what I wanted) because of the texture of the board.

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Stephanie, it's a great question. As I love building layers and sanding the surface, my canvas boards end up pretty smooth and therefore take the gel transfer just fine. I'd suggest you add a layer of gesso then sand, just to take the tooth off the surface. Hope that helps : )

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      mmm... that's a good question. Mostly I have a stack of paper to hand and use a layer of acrylic to pull the residue up. I then use that pull to draw on, print over etc. If it's a total mess and I don't feel i can use it, I wash it with soap and water : ) I know some like using baby oil and wet wipes. I use baby oil but with an old rag : )

      Hi Bix, I get mine from local art shop called Tindalls - I think they have a little chain of shops in this region. Just checked on their online shop and they deliver free on orders over £35. : )

      Hi Kelsey, it depends... sometimes if the residue looks interesting i pull it up as a separate print to come back to as a drawing background or start of a collage. If its a really mess, you can use baby oil and a cloth or good old soap and water.
