Suffered with triangle hair for years…. Took the plunge with the pigtail cut and love the result!! Thank you so much! I watched manes by Mel for inspo then mr watts for a straightforward presentation….. thank you thank you…. Can’t believe i can cut my curly hair better than the many hairdressers who’ve tried
Game changer. I have very fine, naturally curly hair that does NOT grow fast. I struggle to go get a trim because they always take way too much off and I am back to square one. I have tried cutting my own hair numerous times, never comes out how I want. This was perfect! I was able to control exactly how much came off and still keep a decent layered shape! And it was sooo easy.
Paul, after along painful wait my divorce finally came out today and to celebrate I cut my own hair for the first time today since my hairdresser had just moved away and I looove it! Yours is the best video out there and I searched!! Thank you so very much
Thank you Paul!! I’ve been struggling with bad haircuts by stylists who don’t know how to cut my fine curly type 2 hair. My hair was just below my shoulders and looked triangular with long layers that clumped my curls together. I was terrified to do this myself but I’m so glad I did. My hair came out amazing! It still has its length but also gorgeous layers that give me volume on the sides and accentuate my curls. You’re the best!!!
Paul; I wish you could see what a beautiful result I am now half finished diffusing on my type 2b-3b high porosity extra thick hair. Wow- I used my pick comb to HOLD the section as it’s thick and used it for a length guide on all three sections. It’s completely fixed my long heavy overgrown bob that was flat. It’s BEAUTIFUL. Thanks so much- my diffuser sets my alarms off so I opened the back door for my service dog (autistic and salon visits aren’t great for me) a neighbour I ve never spoken to before just shouted nice hair cut from two fences away- if they only knew it is a diy cut and flaxseed gel that’s homemade too (with two garden roses from September I dried and boiled with the seeds) looking and smelling divine! Very very happy I’m sad you won’t see it 😂❤
Paul I watched Mel's video and then I came across yours....... Got out of my chair and went straight to get my hair scissors ✂️ 🙃 I have been cutting my hair since it grew back with beautiful curls (like when I was a child) from illness about 4 years ago. In the past I did follow a lot of Mel's tips (really love her). I like the way you did 3 ponytails and your instructions were spot on!! This is the first time I dry cut. Came out great 🤗 Thank you so much. God bless from Louisiana USA
Oh my gosh this was AWESOME! I am SO TERRIFIED to cut with ponytails. I have never in my entire career done it. I love how rounded and soft this entire look is. What a fantastic job you did! Thank you for showing us. That triangle curly hair is always such a big issue.
Okay, this video just changed my life. 🤯 I’ve been cutting my own hair for three years but always eyeballing it. This just SIGNIFICANTLY shortened the process! Thank you!!
I also cut my own hair , 1/2 a hair cut with my scissors, then razor, and a cpl of wks later go back in again lol I, have very thick wiry hair , it hate's scissors, texturisers , thinning scissors, and ov course heat ! I use my scissors for removing lenght only, and i love going old school with mouse and a tipped head on a slow/cool setting dry with a diffuser x
Shaking like a leaf before I cut! Finally got the courage to do it and I’ll never go back to my old look! Needed the change and I love love love it♥️. TY for sharing 😊
Omygoodness, First Time Ever this cut gave me instant volume!! and free roaming bouncy curls without any product in my hair. I have wavy to curly hair, it was just a little below my shoulder length, all 1 boring length. So... I had Big Reservation on doing this cut, and feared it would shorten my hair even more. But I really needed a classier look for my age 50, and for this Thanksgiving meeting my Man's Family. I'm a diy kinda haircut gal, so I'm no pro by any means, and point cutting scares the hell out of me. But I took the chance, the scissors, and once again took to cutting. I'm so pleased with this cut after blow drying it out, I have tremendous volume, lovable layers, and my curls are loving their freedom to flow. The heavy, lifeless, straight across, look and feel is Gone!!! My hair came out just like yours. This was a super fast, not complicated cut that will be my Everyday Signature Look. The best haircut I've ever had for my curls professional and non professional. Thank You Thank You for finally solving my lifeless, no volume hair. I don't like products in my hair, so the cut alone does my curls ⚖️ Justice. Granted I didn't take 4ins off, I took 2ins, so that my hair still sits just below my shoulders as I like.
I have short, wavy, curly hair and hairdresser always end up cutting my hair and it ends up being gross triangle shape!! So I tried this method not cutting too much, but I will say that I finally got a round shape!! Definitely will be trying this out again!! Thank you!!
I just did it, at 2 am!!! it's awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much! I've never thought my haircut problems will end up like this and so simple!
@@PaulWattsHair, what happens if you do the pigtails really low? I have fine curly hair and am trying to find a way to cut my hair simply, but my hair looks funny with layers that make my hair look like it has ledges (steps).
@@PaulWattsHair, I have above the shoulder curly hair and did this to fix my layers, but my perimeter didn’t reach the part I cut. I like the slightly rounded shape of my perimeter now. If I keep doing this cut every two or three months, will the shape remain the same and my perimeter will eventually reach it? Otherwise I don’t know how to cut the perimeter since I can’t see it.
@@Dogandcatmom51I’d recommend also watching the manes by mel tutorial! She explains how after the cut you can tidy up the ends by keeping the hair split in two, turning your head and looking over the opposite shoulder and brushing the hair down and cutting an inch or so!!
After you cut the ponytails and you were going through it showing how you would have cut it in a 'salon cut' was it as even as IF you would have cut with a moving marker? One thing I don't understand even when I saw it on manes by mel, with the side ponytails wouldn't they be uneven? Wouldn't the hair in the center of the ponytail be shorter since it's coming right out of that center point and the hair around it longer? Do you know what I'm saying?
Hola Soy rizada tipo 2 a 3 Me cote solo las 2 coletas de los lados, porque lo tengo corto en la frente y el resultado me.encanto ya no se ve cuadraso mil gracias 🎉❤
This was easy for me as I have short curly hair and needed that fresh salon volume look without ruining the back " which I can't see " worked a treat. Thankyou 😊
This is hands down THE BEST haircut for curly hair. My husband helps me and it comes out perfect. You may have to trim a few hairs after the cut but seriously this saved me hundreds! I always cut my hair dry but brush it out. Looks amazing!!
I've been cutting my own hair for years but sometimes it's not quite right. I just found this and it looks so much easier. Definitely saving this vid so I can do this the next time. I can already tell this is going to be a game changer for me and my cut for the summer. Thanks!
So I've been cutting my shoulder length 3c curls for years but then started watching youtube for guidance. I tend to do a rough simple cut and then tweak it over the next month to get it right. I did a cut today as it gets too knotty when it gets longer but it has that horrible triangle look which I've no simple QUICK way of eliminating due to lack of knowledge and expertise. Watched your vid and at midnight got so excited I decided to finish off my cut following your simple guide. It certainly feels better and can't wait to wash and style it tomorrow and assess. I went to a salon a year ago and tbh i preferred my own cut (after my tweaking is completed!) But I think your method will cut down on at least 90% of tweaking to be done! Thanks a bunch!
No ur never ever supposed to brush curly hair unless ur straightening it ruins curls and makes it frizzy. Only use a wide tooth comb and when ur conditioning it. If u comb it once its dry ul end up looking like u stuck ur finger in a plug. Also to only use shampoo once a wk MAX and only on the scalp. Best to condition ur hair 1st focusing especially more middle to ends, ,comb through, rinse leaving some in the hair, then scrub ur scalp with shampoo ONLY do not run it through because it runs through when ur washing it out and only because need it on ur scalp. Applying it further down then again when ur rinsing take out all the oils and moisture leaving it dry, damaged and frizzy. Then u do the conditioner again and again u can leave a little ur hair for moisture. DO NOT USE A TOWEL WHATEVER U DO AND DEFINITELY NEVER RUB UR HAIR DRY. u just squeeze the remaining water out and use and old cotton t-shirt. Let it air dry. Only use hairdryer when u desperately have to as we all know heat damages any and everybodys hair bt for curly hair it damages it like 10times faster and everytime u use it and it takes all the moisture out u work hard to put in. Also sleep with a silky or satin pillowcase. Sorted
Excellent! My daughter always complains her hair is always going in a triangle. I will send this to her to show her stylist to get what she wants. She has curly/wavy hair just like the end result.
There are times that the triangle shape in the form of a wide bob come in fashion, I actually don’t like this cuts end result they are to straggly around the neck for me .
I find myself with a real hair challenge, I didn't expect to have at 73. For years I had poker straight hair. Worked in hair, kept it short. Cut my own hair into some fun cuts for the time. Decided three years ago I had enough of cropped hair. I could train my hair anyway I wanted, but three years ago, it gave me trouble. So I grew it out. What a shock when it grew to a certain length. It's got wave, not a strong one but the kinks are there. Some straight ones on one side, but even that isn't entirely straight. When I use a diffuser, I get soft curl. My cutting techniques are good on someone else's, but a pain trying to do the back section. Seeing this method of cutting hair can make cutting my own sooo much easier. I did do a layer cut, (not short). I hope to see more simple cuts with just a gentle wave to best bring it out. My hair is just scraping the shoulder. I find that to be the best length for my face shape at 73.
WOW!! Since I have let my hair go gray it has become curlier😂 I love my gray hair but had that triangle look. I did your 3 pony only cut 1 1/2 “ off ! What a difference ❤️. I also cut my hair dry! Thank you so much🙏
This video and the blunt cut bon was what I did to achieve the shape I wanted. Finally!!!!!! I’ve been going to several hair dressers and although the results were good it wasn’t what I wanted. I don’t think I’ll ever go to a hairdresser LOL. Thank you so much!!!!
THIS IS BRILLIANT ! I HAVE CURLY HAIR. I HAVE WATCHED COUNTLESS VIDEOS IN THE SEARCH FOR FINDING SOMEONE WHO EXPLAINS IN DETAIL HOW THE HAIR FALLS WHEN IT IS CUT. WHAT RESULT I WOULD GET IF I CUT A CERTAIN LENGTH, OR IF I CUT IN THIS DIRECTION WHERE WOULD THE HAIR FALL. THIS VIDEO IS MUCH APPRECIATED THANK YOU FOR BEING SO DETAILED.
Muy buena tu explicación y guía, tengo cabello ondulado, no había visto este video y me corté tipo wolf cut, también me quedó muy bien, la próxima vez me haré este corte, muchas gracias!!
same. I had a terrible haircut that left me looking like a literal clown when I was in middle school. I have never had a salon haircut since then. I trim my own with ponytails maybe twice a year. Now my son who has curly hair is having trouble with hairdressers messing up his hair too :(
Great cut, I grew up with curly hair, I'd like to suggest using a pick. You create volume , you seperate the curls, and no frizz. Your way was for sure frizzy, messy look. You can use the pick to tease your curls but you dont yank. However you were very sweet! ❣
What I didn't see (and with a small screen its expected) was the amount of hair at the front , was it V sectioned, rounded, boxed? How far back on the crown did that section reach? Thanks. I'm a new fan
Thank you, Sir! This is what I need, and looked easy.I hope I can do it, I have curly thick hair, nobody can seem to cut my hair right! 2024 Happy New Year !!! 💝🙏🏼
Thank you for your videos! My daughter has ASD and can not abide others touching her hair. With her beautiful curly hair maintenance can be difficult. Your videos help me keep up with it fast and easy with beautiful results! So happy I found your videos
I wonder if another ponytail could go in the back for more layers? I wanna try this but with shorter layers on the back like on the sides. Other than that the cut looks great and I would cut the front shorter for my bangs too :)
Hello im from philippines i really love your haircut tutorial.very easy to follow and easy to understand.thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and talents.God Bless You and Your Family.we love you .
Thank you!! I will use this method to cut my own hair next time. I use to go to a really great salon in nyc..and then the Pandemic hit and the Roosevelt Hotel closed (where it was located) down and the salon closed. I live in CT and the stylist here cannot seem to cut my extremely baby fine curly hair. The last two places I tried cut way too much of my hair...even after I brought in photo. She pretty much ignored me and gave me a bob with the the nape cut short. I'm still trying to get that nape to grow back and blend with my longer hair. I almost had it and then the second place I went after months of growing it out..cut it short again in the back when I asked for long layers only at the ends...and neither of these stylist point cut at all..like my stylist in nyc use to cut my hair. S nowo my hair is all box shaped and weird looking and doesn't fall as the stylist in this video speaks of which is so nice on curly hair. You would think all stylist know how to and at least ask you if you want point cutting or texturizing done to your hair...as it makes a huge difference in how your hair falls. Thanks again for this easy way to cut your own hair if necessary.
It wasn't clear to me what angle you held the bangs out at. Should it be 45 degrees, and not 90 like the other two side pig tails? This seems easy, and I've been daunted by cutting my extremely thick curly hair for years...but feeling more confident to do so after watching your tutorial. Thank you so much!
I am 46 yes old and I have had curly hair all my life and I've had some hair disasters along the way most of them caused by hairdressers cutting into the ends of the curls and using thinning scissors ✂️ which I find tens to weaken the curls structure layered hair can be good as long as they don't chop into the ends of your curls please be mindful when cutting your hair or getting it cut at the hairdressers it has taken 12-months growing and conditioning to get my curls back🤔
I just followed this video and cut my own long curly hair, couldn’t cut the ends the way he cut, so I did it straight, didn’t take too much because I wasn’t sure I would like it the length the mannequin has but I did like the result👌🏼. Next time instead of a straight cut I will cut diagonally to have a little shorter hair at the top than I have now. Thank you for doing this video 👌🏼.
Thank you very much Paul. ❤ The cut is so simple and came out perfect. Next time curling before cutting would be more helpful to understand, pleazzzzzzze 😊
This is fantastic! Exactly what I have been trying to do for months now. I have been cutting my own hair for years and have naturally curly hair and now it is a beautiful gray/white/silver and it is even MORE curly and has even more of a mind of its own LOL! thank you for this super tutorial!!!
Awesome cut, amazing curl to it. I just tried it, waiting to air dry. Can you please do a tutorial on how to add shine to thin, wavy hair without making it look stringy and greasy.....which is what the spray in sheen products do to my hair.
What if I want long length with sipherical shape around head? My hair goes down to the middle of my back(curly) and I love it long. I keep going to stylist who keep giving me a v shape.
J'ai testé votre technique sur mes cheveux bouclés, ça marche super bien, mon dégradé est mieux que celui de chez mon coiffeur, je sais ce qu'il me reste à faire dorénavant !🤗 merci beaucoup 👍
Great tut! I’ve been cutting my own hair for upwards of 50 years now, and have always been happy with my layered, very wavy hair. I wanted a change up a little so I tried your tutorial. I cut off about 5” of my hair in this experiment but the results were still bottom heavy tending toward that triangle shape. I had the side areas slightly behind and about an inch higher than my ear as shown. Any suggestions? It seems to me that if I placed the ponytails a bit higher it would shorten the top layers while leaving the bottom longer, no? Could my head shape be a factor?
My naturally curly hair does not appreciate texturizing. If there are any length variations the curls cannot get organized and I end up with frizz instead unless I then use heat to curl it. My hair tends to break with too much heat no matter how well it is treated and conditioned. And why do so many people that cut hair want to cut off or straightened curly hair, why? a good even cut, good shampoo and conditioning it is gorgeous but try to control it and it never goes well the first moment I have humidity, rain, or wind.
Wow, I can't believe I found your channel! I've been looking for a DIY simple cut for curly hair, but much shorter... can I apply this technique? How short can I go?
Suffered with triangle hair for years…. Took the plunge with the pigtail cut and love the result!! Thank you so much! Went to get a haircut and the lady messed me up. I did your cut and it's beautiful and your video was easy to follow. You saved me. Thank you!
So happy I found this! I cannot find a stylist within a 60 mile radius who knows how to layer my curly hair. I might just do this myself.

I’m doing this!!! I’m so traumatized from my many terrible haircuts so I’m avoiding the salon. 😢
same. I had a terrible haircut that left me looking like a literal clown when I was in middle school. I have never had a salon haircut since then. I trim my own with ponytails maybe twice a year. Now my son who has curly hair is having trouble with hairdressers messing up his hair too :(
My hair is so long from not going to a salon because I can't mentally handle another botched cut. I think I'm gonna try this out 🤞
You and me both!
How did it go? I'm thinking of trying also?!
Yes, I wish we could see how you sectioned off the ponytails.
If you made the two ponytails on the side higher, wouldn’t the top layers be shorter and the length be longer?
Gorgeous, it's difficult to describe this to stylists a lot of the time. I guess the word to be used is spherical! ty.
Amazing! I just tried this and it made such a difference! Thank you!
❤ This is the best tutorial for curly hair and shape the face❤
This worked well for me ! I did the cut with my hair dry, and i have natural thick and curly-hair.
I'm about to clean up my previous cut by trying this method next time I flat iron my hair- THANKS. So excited to try this👍🏽👍🏽
Loved it combed n’ poof’d out. Stringy moussed curls are old fashioned - and not in a good way! Great job!!!
Not to complicate things, but what if you want a round look but wear a side parting?
Very interesting demonstration and well done explaining it. Some stylists demos on U Tube are very confusing.
I was gonna go to a salon but the prices are so crazy for a curly cut gonna give this a try
El corte que siempre quise y no sabía como hacerlo muchas gracias por compartirlo saludos desde Perú
I had no idea The Edge was cutting hair now. And he's good, too!
I think your videos are brilliant, Paul. You're very good at keeping it simple but very effective.
Questo è il tipo di taglio che secondo me dovrebbero portare tutte le riccie😊 È bellissimo!! Grazie per averlo condiviso, lo farò sulla mia bimba
Thank you, this is exactly what I was hunting for and I feel I owe your some top tier home baking.
I just did this in 4 minutes. Fabulous
LOVED THIS! It's to the point, easy to understand, and the result is GORGEOUS! 😍
I LOVE, LOVE THIS LOOK. ❤
I HAVE WATCHED IT 3 TIMES. NOW I AM WORKING ON THE COURAGE.
Awesome cut, amazing curl to it. I just tried it, waiting to air dry. Can you please do a tutorial on how to add shine to thin, wavy hair without making it look stringy and greasy.....which is what the spray in sheen products do to my hair.
Love this!
This looks great and mine is frizzy too so it’ll look awesome and messy like this final result I’ve got to cut my hair today!
Update, my hair did NOT look like this and I really regretted cutting it.
@@zarasoleil8633 thanks for updating 😭
@@zarasoleil8633 yep I tried something similar a year ago and it was a mess... :(
I love it. I cut my daughter's curly hair and it looks fabulous 👌. 😊 thanks for the video
Brilliant tutorial Paul; keep up the good work!
Amazing I just did this cut and it came out wonderful thank you very much😍
What if I want long length with sipherical shape around head? My hair goes down to the middle of my back(curly) and I love it long. I keep going to stylist who keep giving me a v shape.
Did a great job to my hair!
Loved the cut on my hair!❣
I just did this cut and I love it 😀
Did you cut it dry or wet?
@@TheCarterFambam I cut it dry
Thank you!
Do you part your hair in the middle? Unsure if I should do something different if I part on the side?
@@stacy8111 yes I do. And I have bangs
J'ai testé votre technique sur mes cheveux bouclés, ça marche super bien, mon dégradé est mieux que celui de chez mon coiffeur, je sais ce qu'il me reste à faire dorénavant !🤗 merci beaucoup 👍
Thanks! Now I can cut my hair. They always cut mine to short at Great Clips!
I would like to show this to my hair stylist thank you the style is so me
I freaking LOVE it! You're such an artist.
He's a good teacher! Love this cut! I actually pay attention! 🤗😁
Can you show us how to keep the same symmetry with a side part?
I already cut my hair this time around following your wolf-cut tutorial but next time I'm trying this one. Thank you!
Awesome video! Game changer for sure. Easy “do it yourself “ guide! Thank u so much for sharing!,🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much. Very well explained. Quick and easy. I dit it and i love it.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed. You explained it so simply and I can’t wait to try it! I just subscribed to your channel!
