I discovered you from listening to Kathryn (K3N cloth tales) say how much she admires your work and how she learned about invisible basting from you. So I am about to binge watch your Spirit Cloth 101 series. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I discovered slow stitching about a year ago from Sarah Homfrey Embroidery's TH-cam channel and that led me to K3N and I am hooked. I am particularly interested in doing small to medium sized wall hangings and love the overlapping of fabrics (as opposed to seams) that both you and K3N love. Running stitches are the basis of my meditation. I love it !!!

You were the one that first did this slow-stitching. I have followed you since early days. I hope you're well.

Love, love your work & videos. Thanks so very much for the inspiration. I collected some fabric sample books in various weights & fabrics. Don't know what most of them are but some say polyester, rayon, linen and cotton . Can these be recycled in piece work & embroidery exploration. Should I wash them first. Also they all have the paper window borders glued to them. I tried removing them but wonder if I can soak them off or just cut around the edges. Hope this is not too long a question (s) . Thanks

      Hey, thank you.
Yes, you can use those samples, I actually collected many sample books as well, I worked in the textile industry for years. It depend on the age and quality of the cloth. I would stay away from polyester. I usually wash by hand soaking overnight in gentle soap. Sometimes the glue comes out sometimes not. I usually cut it off. If the samples are old they can become brittle so not all can be used. Some of my favorite scraps came from sample book. Are they dated? maybe I will do a little video and talk about old cloth.

Jude Hill, thanks so very much for your reply, new phone so I only just saw your response. Sadly they have been separated from the book so I don't know if it had been dated or not. Shame about the polyester though. They're so pretty

@@banana136 well you might use them like paper in a collage or something. Sometimes I just frame the pages.

@@clothwhisperer Hmmmm, that sounds perfect. Can they be sewn together on the paper?

Should I do it by hand, pre pierce the paper? Or use an awl?

This is an old video , old class, not available anymore. Any very thin cotton cloth that doesn't add too much weight and is easy to stitch through will do.
