Just wanna shout out @jamirswells6265 for the great video suggestion. This was originally supposed to be a more laid back ranking video, but I figured I do a little extra. What are some of your favorite songs or musical moments from the boondocks? I would love to know
Getting famous rappers to sing some original songs is peak. The r Kelly song I definitely wanted to hear the entire thing too. Just so many iconic tracks
The boondocks theme has a special moment for me. It always take me back to my college days, the night of the series premiere was the day i met some of my closest friends in college. So whenever i that piano , im automatically taken back 2005.
Yup. Looking back, I can't think of too many other shows with music that matched the hype of the fights. Naruto might be only worthy comparison off the top of my head
It's been so long since I actually read the comics, I have to see if my dad still has some the old strips that got turned into a book back in the day. But those are definitely two interesting ideas
5:16 I'm not sure if this is an unpopular take, but I actually think Huey narrating everything in Season 1 is a little much these days. I kind of admire how the later seasons didn't need to be as blunt with the point they were making. A great example would be "It's a Black President, Huey Freeman." It plays off the fact that Huey isn't saying anything, but forces the viewer to arrive at very similar conclusions on what the episode is trying to say. I feel like everyone loves the message of Season 1, mainly because it's super hard to miss. They tell you. I think great satire can make a point without the characters explicitly spelling it out. I feel like that's when The Boondocks is at its best, at leasy satirically. You're deffo right on the piano tracks helping elevate it those moments though.
I can definitely see that point. A part of me might love the narration because I grew up watching it as a kid who definitely needed his hand held when it came to understanding the satire/messages of each episode, but I do genuinely think there's a charm and allure to how well the monologues are executed in season 1. People always say that visual media should be show don't tell, but I think Huey's narration in season 1 is a really great exception to that rule. And because they did it so heavily in season 1 (to your point) it made episodes like "It's Black President" stand out even more when they did the opposite and let the viewer figure things out on their own.
0:54 Yes, I've thought about it very much; I have a playlist on my smartphone called "Camara Seduced by the Idiot Box". "The Boondocks' " theme song is one of the many on the list, along with bangers like the "Sanford and Son", "Knight Rider", "The Transformers", "Good Times", "Star Blazers", "Siskel & Ebert" and "Mission: Impossible" themes.
I’m only a minute into the video but I need to let you know how much I love your videos. I was doing some thing and I just happened to glance at my phone and saw the notification that you uploaded so I stopped everything I was doing to come watch the video. Keep up the absolutely fantastic work.
The Hunger Strike introduced me to Gnarls Barkley. I swear I listened to their album St. Elsewhere everyday for almost TWO MONTHS, all because of Go-Go Gadget Gospel in that episode Also, man, I wish they made full versions of Thuggin' Love (my favorite), Move Them Butt Cheeks, Stomp Em In The Nuts, I'm Rich (the way too many cars song), Eff Granddad, Homies Over Hoes, Eat Dirt's song from season 1, Thugnificent's instrumental inspired by Bring Em Out that plays when he's moving in and in that hilarious "I would just turn up the bass a little" scene, and others. All that shit SLAPS. It's so sad that they aren't full songs
10000%, Gnarls Barkley had great little run back in the day. And the amount of great little snippets blows my mind as well. Whoever was making all of that back ground music should have a few grammys by now (at least) lol
5:45 I'll probably get ridiculed, but that music is reminiscent of the old Charlie Brown specials, with the jazzy music accompanying their contemplations.
No ridicule from me. I agree 100%. The creator of The Boondocks has said that Charlie Brown was a big inspiration for the whole show, so it makes sense that the music sounds similar
@@chillreview636 I thought you’d be interested in an update. I spoke with Metaphor the Great on IG it seems like even he doesn’t know what happened to the specific song I’m talking bout. I’ve checked multiple mixtapes and searched everywhere and I’m convinced it doesn’t exist
Hearing rap from boondocks had me connect with the art form, it made me go oh shit rap is fucking sick. Before that i didn't given it the due respect it deserved
I feel like season 1 music got our attention and fits the more thoughtful energy behind first season. Season 2 music is more synonymous with the tone of boondocks as a whole. When I think boondocks I recognize the cords from season 1 but 2 is my favorite. Season 3 was the most indicative of the time to me not as timeless as first 2 seasons. Crazy they don’t show Jimmy rebel episode but Django plays everywhere.
Yeah it's pretty hypocritical when you think about it. And I def get that feeling from season 2. Most of the Boondocks outside of season 1 fits that kind of vibe
I remember seeing some random mixtapes dropped on Datpiff waaaaay back in the day, but I don't know if there ever an official soundtrack released for purchase.
I hadn’t noticed tha music before (not as much as I should’ve anyway). Some of tha best works of TV and Cinema are defined in large part by tha accompanying score. E.g. tha last Agni Kai(avatar), Deborah’s theme(Once Upon a Time in America), Guts(Berserk), Eva Braun’s Last Letter(Downfall), I could go on. Keep making art about art like dis homie. You got some good background music yo’self, what song is dat?
Thanks homie! And I put all the background music for the video in the description. Not sure which song you're asking about specifically but it should be there somehwere
Dude how in the fuck do you not have more subscribers????? You should have at least a couple hundred thousand at this level of quality!!! Another certified hood classic!!!! Keep it up my man!!!!!!

Including MF DOOM in the boondocks was one of the greatest decisions in existance
Getting famous rappers to sing some original songs is peak. The r Kelly song I definitely wanted to hear the entire thing too. Just so many iconic tracks
Hahaha I forgot to mention the fake R Kelly song. It was definitely smooth as hell
@@chillreview636 i thought it was real myself. It was actually pretty good
Man, the background jazz music for season one was the best. season two and onward, they kept reusing the same ones.
A take I love is
"Painting/drawing/etc is how we decorate space, and music is how we decorate _time._ "
Amazing quote 👍🏾
The Boondocks had the most unique mixture of 2000s gangster rap, lofi, and 90s east coast rap
Facts!
It really did. I got scared that a reboot wouldn't match the musical stylings
I believe in it. Rock n Roll Gangsta hit the soul different at the right moment of the scenes.
So true. I've been listening to those songs for decades now and they're still mad powerful
Glad im not the only person who genuinely prefers Tom’s version of let it burn to the original lol
Hahaha It's so fire

Carl Jones really shouldve done a thugnificent album back when the show was poppin. I bet it would've been a banger.
Yup. They really made some classics
For me Thugnificent auto tune was truly ahead of it's time
Agreed! Thank you Ganta Igarashi. I'm a big fan of your work
Fuck Grandpa and New Shoes stay stuck on repeat when I’m workin
Those songs are certified diamond in my house!!
12:38 i was like omg when i heard this scene because we played this song at my school orchestra lol
That's dope! Do you remember the name of the song?
@@chillreview636 It's Barber adagio for strings
Grandad’s theme lives in my head and will probably never leave.
The boondocks has always been the posterchild of fight scene musical accompaniment to me tbh
Yup. Looking back, I can't think of too many other shows with music that matched the hype of the fights. Naruto might be only worthy comparison off the top of my head
I still listen to the Boondocks soundtrack
Truely timeless
Love your Boondocks videos.
Thanks my G
Would love for you to talk about caeser and maybe do a deep dive of what Huey and Riley represent positively and negatively

Should be "My Fish" (Before I Forget) by Daisuke Tanabe
