Just doesn’t look right for this time of year. Not trudging through 2’+ of snow. Love that area only 10ish minutes from the cabin. 😄
Southern Wisconsin river fishing has been on fire for browns and rainbows year.weve had great weather and perfect river conditions.Best I've ever experienced in 40 years of winter river fishing.Nice video glade to see I'm not the only one braving the cold and catching lots of fish.
Looks like you had a lot of fun and plenty of room to fish.
Thanks,
Tim
Great video, awesome scenery & some decent weather. 1 more thing you will really notice when you retire,...... less people during the week ! Never have drifted w/ floats ,but now I know how to set em up. Thanks for sharing.
Sure was a beautiful spot Chris ! Drone footage was excellent. Your 30 yr old jacket looks to be in the same condition as mine lol 👍🐟
Thanks Chris, appreciate the hard work you do to bring us info on how to up our game and this one on steelhead fishing , did you get out fishing with Kyle on the river? Heard you mention that on one of your recent streams. Been wanting to fish with him for a while now . Thanks again and good luck this season 👍
Thanks. Kyle had to cancel due to personal reasons and I don't think I will be able to re-schedule with him this year. I have another trip coming up on the 26th with my friend Jake from Netminder charters on the river.
Do you ever drift fish with cured salmon eggs or shrimp ? Your fishery is what the PNW use to be like until they choked off the rivers with nets. Lake Michigan salmon fishing and steelhead fishing is on my bucket list. At least I know where to get a charter LOL. Please cherish, protect and defend your fishery as one day it could all be gone.
I really like your channel as it is informational, low keyed and personal. You do not need a production team, fancy lights and cameras to see you have a passion for what you do and to pass on your experience on to others. All of your guests (friends) are all down to earth good and generous people with decades of knowledge they are willing to pass onto less experience people to be successful anglers. Keep up the good work and never let anyone discourage you from what you are doing.
On a side note: The steelhead fishery hear was decent up until about 10 years ago. I had 5 local rivers I could fish that were all within an hour from my home. 3 are now closed for Steelhead and the other 2 the hatcheries have been closed down. That is when I sold my sled. I now only Salmon Fish in the Ocean off British Columbia and Alaska. I am fortunate to be self employed and can leave at a moments notice. I will be selling my current boat to a friend of mine when I get my new 38' EagleCraft which I will receive in the spring of 2024. I am getting older so I am having a preference for more space and comfort while fishing in remote locations for weeks at a time. When my wife does not join me its usually 4 friends of mine I have known since grade school. We have one friend who has owned many restaurants so he is in charge of food and cooking LOL. He can also fillet fish like a pro. I feel very blessed to have such great friends and family to be able to share what I love to do most in life. I volunteer my time and boat to take the disabled and less fortunate fishing. In 2021 we had 5 guys who were all friends from a retirement home on board. They lost one of their friends 2 months previous and they celebrated him with a shot of Crown Royal while spreading some of his ashes overboard. The six of them were all high School buddies and took a yearly fishing trip together. We actually caught 2 clipped hatchery fish (Kings) 8 and 10 pounds.
I know life seems to go by quickly so take the time to slow down and enjoy what ever it is you like to do. Share your passion with friends and family. Your legacy will not be based on your wealth but what you do for others.
I couldn't agree more with the things you said. Always try to help others when you can. Thanks for your kind words. And yes, we do float skein and eggs for salmon in the fall, but shrimp is not widely used.
Buy the 70 count frozen raw shrimp tails at your local grocery store. You get about 3 baits per tail. Cheap effective way to tip a jig.
Carry more than one rod even when bank fishing. Rig a rod for jigs, one for beads, and one for spinners. Start with the beads then jigs. Follow up through the run with a spinner. Don’t flog the water. Normally at least out west you only need to make a few casts with each. 90% of the fish you hook will be in the first 3 casts. Cover allot of water fast however your stream temps are way colder than ours. Have fun.
@@rthurman9065 I normally would carry a bunch of gear with me, but I'm on my $100 dollar challenge. I have to stick with what I got for less than $100 bucks.
One good tip I’ll add is while rigging up the float is to put 3 pieces of the tubing on the line, and put the extra third piece on the bottom stem, that way you have a extra piece in case the top, or bottom piece get cut through from the line, all you have to do is slide the extra piece off the bottom stem, and slide it up the line, and put it on the top stem to replace the torn one, otherwise you have to take part of the rig apart at the swivel to add a new piece.
Great tip.
@@tangledtacklefishing 99% of the time, it’s the top piece that gets torn. Just take the bobber off, slide the extra piece up the line, and reattach the bobber.
@@bobhunter8992 agreed. I've done it before and forgot to add it into the video. Thanks for the great tip.
Funny when you say pretty warm out 30 deg just jeans and a jacket. I would love to live in MI but my wife would be frozen 9 months of the year.
You just get used to it and it's worth it for the beauty of the state.
Close to the farm.. How’s the bite at heart attack hill bite? Great video
I heard early in the morning it's been good down in that area.
Nobody said you had to actually land a steelhead, getting bit is the easy part .lol
Great salmon holes. Thundersticks work great next to the launch. Just fished bear last year on that road. Hooked 6 on the thunderstick as well
I had to stick with my $100 dollar challenge. No extra lures, waders or anything that I didn't originally buy. Thundersticks are a great stick bait though.
Crick, not creek
