Hoping to make a video showing this thing really tearing it up off-road when I get a chance. As for the in-depth discussions of each component or the build as a whole.... That type of stuff just doesn't get views, so I'm figuring out what to do there to make it worth the time expenditure.
@TortureTestMagazine hey mate, good vid. I think the videos of you wrenching and installing the mods plus a bit of voice over and then an end result would be awesome
I get it if you find that a in-depth build + testing sort of video isn't worth your time for the views you get out of it, but I just want to say those are my favorite. Watching some of your older content along those lines is among my favorite moto content I've found on youtube! Thanks for all you do Gabe. Good luck to you!
Hi man, your content is awesome!! Can you do a video on how you took the decition to change your life and to go all for it. Also how your time has been during your Projekt. That would be really interesting!!
I have seen these engines be opened to 310ccs. They're the same engine that came on the Brazilian CG150s. It's freaking huge around here, #1 top selling bike for 10y if I recall correctly.
@@Noonenaught yeah, recently there was a race between builders and they are now mad at one of the builder because he used nitrous oxide (and won the race).
The improvement is insane! I definitely agree in the de-tune so it's more usable in the offroad usage. I definitely still think I'm going to get a dr200 and a play around dirty dual sport.
I have a 2004 KDX 200 that I love. I do a lot of different trail riding here in Central Oregon. Do you ever foul spark plugs? if you do, consider switching your pre-mix oil to Lucas semi synthetic Land & Sea 2 stroke oil. (Amazon). Expensive but it is designed to burn off the spark plug and not leave oil on the plug :) That and use an iridium plug. I can put around for hours at barely more than idle and not foul. Just my two cents on KDXs.
A great video my dude❤, just a suggestion if u can find aftermarket racing cdi, racing ignition coil, port and polish the head for better performance, i guarantee it'll give u more power than having bore up, here in asia we call it pcc (port, carb, cdi) it can keep up with the bore ups (sometimes much better)u just need fine tuning on the carb have it on slight rich tune for high revs without limiter comes with a cost on the engine😅, it'll save u more aswell on the modifications❤, pcc and stiffer valve/clutch springs, also replace the clutch lining. Lemme know if this helps😁
I'm currently on a TMX Supremo, which has the same family of engine as the XR150L (minus some differences). I've taken the engine apart (topend and crankcase covers) to do some preplanning and CAD work as when I get the XR150L I plan to replicate the Suzuki's SACS oil cooling system by modifying the head and jug to have cooling oil galleries/jackets and installing 2 CRF150L cooler kits from a reputable Indonesian shop, with one radiator line bypassing the stock oil channel in the jug and directly pumping the oil to the head cover gallery. The other kit will be supplemented with a thermostat and an external electric oil pump with an inline spin-on filter before plumbing to the added cooling channels. Both radiators will have fans as well. Will it work? I honestly don't know, but I'm bored enough to try it. I'm sharing this just in case anybody wants to be as stupid as I am.
Hi man, your content is awesome!! Can you do a video on how you took the decition to change your life and to go all for it. Also how your time has been during your Projekt. That would be really interesting!!
Awesome! Now we just need some raw 0-60 and off-road footage before you de-tune it. Crazy how much acceleration it gained. Did that spark arrestor bolt right up?
What an incredibly effective big bore upgrade! Wow. Not everyone can say there's such a firecracker of an upgrade available for their bike. About how much horsepower do you think the bike makes now at the rear wheel?
I don't have a dyno to work with, but I've got a phone with accelerometers saying it's tugging 2-3x as hard depending on RPM and speed, haha. Definitely indescribably more powerful in the bottom to mid and then starts signing off in the top end because the cam profile just isn't working with my 15,000 mile valve springs. Definitely a lot of potential in this engine if it were given a well thought out build rather than a mish mash of bolted-in parts!
Also, gotta be careful on the head gasket.. Doubling up can increase the squish band and paradoxically make detonation worse. Not sure if anyone has blazed that trail on the XR150L but you never know.
Dare I say a bigger cam may actually bleed off more compression with more overlap and make less knock sensitive. Measure the squish too, a tight squish of around .040 helps with knock too.
I have a possibility dumb, very expensive but interesting idea. I was reading through the old crf230f mods website and I was kinda surprised that the pwk carb was straight off of a cr85. Then I had a horribl(y good) idea. I looked up if smart carb makes a model for the cr85. They have a direct bolt on. Since you converted your crf230f to use a cr85 carb already, who's to say that the smart carb wouldn't work either? It would probably also solve the jetting issues described in the article.
You proved several points & that's good enough but w/o adding anymore power a simple "Sprocket" experiment might have made the low end gearing better while giving a slight advancment in the overall speed of the bike? ME, IDKnow jack-sH!Te about most of this but I have seen the big block upgrade you did. ANYONE know what he "Coated" the big bore parts with? Is it a some metal coating to better protect the engine parts that you added? Do share, drop the name of it if you know? peace
If you could send me your speedometer and tachometer readings for every run and give the bikes weight with you on it along with a head on photo of you replicating your body position on the bike, I reckon I could get an ok estimate of the bikes power at the wheels, if you can get me your gear ratios and tyre size I could see if I can get a rough power versus rpm chart and torque versus rpm chart for you, in principle it all should be correct but ofcourse the real world is way more complicated so I cant promise much
2:11 wow, Honda really nerf/ underpowererd your xr150L in the USA to avoid putting electronic fuel injection on it. How did a bigger carb help performance? Isn't carb tuning all about proper air/fuel mix under load? If you need more fuel you need more fuel, but wouldn't a jet swap do the same? The increase in displacement wasn't that big.

Some upgraded valve springs will help with the float
Double up the base gasket, a la DRZ400S and SM as compared to the E

Place links to the kit products please.
Get stiffer valve springs. Might need to upgrade clutch springs with the extra power.
Did you pull specs on the cam?
very cool. did i see that correctly real 55mph are 100kmh on the speedo?
You know we’re so back when you see an OKO carb on a small ass bike
So how does it compare to the modified DR200 you did?
Does it have an oil cooler to help with detonation?
What the the names and brands of the parts you use and espects
Do you need to grind down the back of the piston?
To install a bore kit what is the difficulty?
And now it’s time to run in in a 24 hour race 😂
I wish all L model Hondas weren't trash. Love my XRs though
L is for late. Lazy. Lackadaisical. Lame. Low maintenance.
Make more content please 😁
I'd regear it, so you can cruise at 65MPH without being a hair away from valve contact.
just put some 2 stroke premix in there at 125:1 and it won't knock or 100:1 for better over all running
Thicker base gasket reduces compression ratio. Probably the easiest way to detune this beastly XR.
