- The clock is really ticking now, and so the race is on to finish our narrowboat build.
We’ve been building our off-grid narrowboat home for almost one year, and now we’re expecting our new tiny life member in just three weeks' time. Until now, we’ve been making Artichoke, our fully solar-powered narrowboat, very much liveable, but this week we’re making her feel more like home.

Is vomiting cheering? Are they the good ones from the pasty shop or are they ginsters?
Cheeting
Never had a pasty so cant tell you.
As a Cornishman and a lover of pasties, I reckon 30 cheese and onion of course :)
@@59kiwilassyou haven't lived.. you need a decent Cornish pasty in ya 😂
Yep, I’m with Gabby, the paint color is perfect! It looks great with the wood too.
I LOVE painting. I like seeing the difference you can make.
All that matters when the baby arrives is the three of you. As long as you are warm, fed, safe and have each other , all will be well. ❤ everything gets sorted eventually… taking time to soak it all in is way more important. 👍🏼😀
I have just found you two, soon to be three. 💛 I have laughed and cried with you, your blogs are a joy to watch, thank you so much 💛💛💛💛
At least she painted xx
Hi Guys Looking good.
5 Pasties only i have small appetite.😄
Good luck with your baby. 🥰
Babies grow up in deserts , on dusty floors, in rainforests and shanty towns. As long as it’s safe and warm and they have nutrition and love and sensible carers they are fine . Rules don’t exist it’s intuitive xxx it’s love in abundance and minimal sleep . Xxx
I'm more a wallpaper gal. I only do one wall as a feature, so I change it often cos it's an easy job. Really enjoy your videos
Not long now, hope you do all you need so you can rest before baby arrives.💚
Love that colour 🥰
Loved the colour.
Love watching your laidback approach, slow & steady wins! Take it easy, don’t worry your jobs will get done.
It is already cosy in there, very nice. I would use a transparent varnish for the upper part 😍
you 100% need that canon
Love the colour!
Love the paint! I could manage 8 Traditional Pastoes I think. Hope the scan went OK xx
Thumbs up for the colour it looks lovely. Hope the scan went well just don't forget baby can come early. My first baby was 2 weeks early and the 2nd 3 weeks early 😅
Thanks Lisa! All well at the scan 😊 Apparently anywhere from now is considered full term.... slightly terrifying but we're holding out for the first babies tend to be late myth haha
@thistinylife my grandson was 16 days late. I think Jack will be inundated with socks for Christmas 🎄 😆 🤣 😂
I am in the “I don’t like to paint camp” but my husband just doesn’t paint…never has in all the many years we’ve been married. I just finished painting 1700 sq feet of our downstairs! Good job! I love the color and can’t wait to see what you do with the top bit. Don’t work too hard! Also..Father Christmas needs to know you need socks, Jack!
You know what’s really tasty with baked/jacket potatoes? Stuffing them with a lentil sloppy Joe (you can do a meat one if you’re not vegetarian/vegan). So flavorful and filling. I really like the vegan one on the Make It Dairy Free website/TH-cam channel. Easy and cheap way to dress up a potato.
And now I want a pasty….
Oh I really love your vlogs, they are so enjoyable with lots of lovely chat.
The boat colour looks great.I will be watching the next one shortly.
Take care Gabby, don't over do things.
Thanks so much 😊 We really really appreciate you watching and your lovely comment!! xx
I know this isn't a video about music, but you killed it this time! Huaracheando en El Monte! That is the tune that starts the vlog; what a tune! Well done, editor!
Ahhh ye are lovely ❤
I don't normally comment but I just wanted to put a little message here saying how much I love watching your videos. The last couple of weeks have been horrendously stressful and taking a moment to watch has brought me a moment of calm that I wouldn't normally have found. Keep being lovely human beans :) p.s loving the paint colour!
Hello, the cute stone mushrooms are supposed to be Staddle stones, feed sheds used to sit on them to keep rats and the like out. Loving watching your vlogs, I'm stuck at the highest point of the Leeds Liverpool canal waiting for it to be opened again, I have strong views about the price rises, would love to hear your thoughts.
Love seeing you both work, I was cutting a seven foot hedge with my fourth child on board 3 days before I gave birth, keep active mama ❤️🙌
Ps. Colour is beautiful 🤔 can’t wait to see what you pick for the top half. Please don’t stress! Like others have said all you need is to be warm fed watered and loved and I mean that! That’s it! You have those four people you will ace it ❤️
Aww i love the wood as is just varnish it ...the paint colour has a clean look .
We think we might leave the ceiling with the wood look - it was getting a bit too sauna-y all round! But we'll be bringing in wood elsewhere for character ☺
@@thistinylife oh yeah forgot the sauna look 😂
Looks good to me, not that it matters,, as long as you are happy with it,
Stunning colour and I am with Jack about painting
Love the colour, can't wait to see it finished.
I'm with Gabby I love painting too, I find it relaxing.
❤❤❤❤
Nice colour bless you both, love your dog, I have a schnauzer too xx
Thank you! 😊 they're such lovely dogs! Sometimes a little too full of personality haha
Love the color! U cats don't have 2 much time left enjoy ur quiet time!❤❤🎉🎉
you picked the right colour, bright and modern
Love the colour - light and airy will help the winter feel less oppressive in a small space! I just hope it’s washable with little fingers on the way!!
Can’t wait to see what colour you choose for the top - I’m thinking it will be something earthy and cosy!
Great video guys, loved the colour you have done your walls in
Thanks Stephen! It's growing on us every day 🎨
Guys I love your attitude and positive videos but I want to shake Jack and tell him to get going please😂😂
Love the color! Airy and light! I am a painter in the family.
Hi, really enjoyed todays video. You both seem to work hard but there is so much you need to do before baby arrives. I hope you don't push yourselves to hard . Take care
Ps . I hope the scan went well. X
Thanks so much 🥰 Yep quite a bit still...one job at a time!! All well at the scan, thank you 😊
Nice colour! I love painting walls&canvas art😊
Have to agree with the two comments above. I absolutely love your videos, been watching you from the start. And will keep watching as you guys make great slow living content……But its been almost a year. The boat still looks/is more building site than completed. And a baby is soon coming. You cant live in sawdust, paint fumes and untidyness anymore. The baby will make enough mess as it is, and as a parent i just keep been drawn to all those sharp edges i see everywhere in the video shots. Please get a couple of your mates to come down for a week or so and just absolutly push the process along.
Wishing you guys all the best, and i really dont want to be a buzz kill (i know this comment wont make your week) but i think the time has come for outside help. Film it though so we can all enjoy. All the best guys 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey there! Thanks for your comment and for watching from the beginning! It has almost been a year however we lost all of summer due to the hull problems that had to be sorted. Taking on a project like this whilst juggling work and creating content is a huge undertaking. As for living in a building site, once cleaned up the boat is pretty liveable. Cutting is done outside, the paint we use is low VOC.
The middle room is set up for the baby and the sharp edges won't be so sharp by the time the baby is able to move around on their own 🙂
Thank you for your concern and keep on watching. We take life as it comes and will be ready in our own way xx
@@thistinylife fair enough guys. As said, really wasnt meant to put you guys down. What you two are doing is amazing. And thanks for sharing it all with us. Was only said out of pure concern. I’m sure theres alot we dont see off camera, and its prob not as bad as i thought in my mind😂. All the best guys and good luck 💪🏻
All the best with baby scan, bay will be doubly cute and gorgeous like u 2😂❤
Hi lovely Guys. Your colour is great 👍 very neutral as you said. Enjoyed seeing you both again. Love to you ❤ both xxx
Danke!
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
I agree with Jack I really hate painting my father was a painter and decorator for 47 years and taught me everything he knew so I can paint but it's one of my most hated jobs along with pealing potatoes
At least you'd do a good job of it 😅 sweet potatoes maybe!
@@thistinylifeiv actually just put an offer on a narrowboat so looks like I might soon be doing my most hated job 😂😂
Love the paint! 😊❤
I love to paint. I just moved and have painted the entire inside. The previous owners left so many holes from pictures and screws in the walls, it seemed like I was patching forever. I love the color you chose, it makes it so bright. Time is going to fly now. Safe travels till the next video. 🥰
Loved the video. Good things take time. Hope scan went well. The paint looks cool. Have a good week guys.
I love painting,my main hobby is canal art /landscapes and l end up with as much on me 😂As for the pasties l think two trad Cornish Pasties would do 😁
That's nice to know a professional is just as messy 🤣🤣 Just two, no way?! 😅
Wall colour looks good and nice and warming.
In the subject of Cornish Pasties…are we talking proper ones? Last one I had was the size of the moon! Would manage about one of those 😆
I'm not so keen on painting but I absolutely love using filler and filling holes and cracks but I am a bit weird 😂. I'm pretty much the decorator as hubby is accident prone so it's better if I do it lol. I love the colour of your paint I think it keeps it looking bright and airy. Time is ticking now and your little one will be here in no time!
Keep the good work up 😊
Thank you 🥰
Love the colour - Hope it’s washable paint.
The colour is lovely well done I don’t think you should be painting tc now good look thinking of you sending loved to you both your oldies (no hair tidy yet we see lol) 🤗🤗🌹🌺🌷👍
I absolutely love painting...Go girl..or should i shout out Mom !
Would you like to come and do the rest for us? 🤣🤣
You are amazing. And getting there. How do you find your batteries are this time of year is the solar enough to keep them charged up. Your boat is awesome and you are both fantastic. Every best wish. ❤
Beautiful video
18 😂😂😂 Im from the south west and was brought up on pasties 😊 6 max ! They are very filling .
Haha fair, you have practice 🤣
your question about the number of pasties could we eat in 24hrs would depend on the size, and the size depends on where you buy them, some places class a large the same size as another shop would call a medium, but I've eaten 9 oggie oggie large pasties in a day and could have eaten more, so standard size (in some shops) is classed as medium i could probably easily eat double that. I do love a good pastie.
No dessert pasties up for grabs? I wonder if I could eat more sweet or savoury.
Well you are looking very well at the moment Gabby, huge but healthy!!! Since eating those pasties would be for $1,000 each I’d have a go at cramming in 10 for sure!!! Paint on the lower half looks great but it’s a shame you’re going to paint the wood panelling but then I can’t see the screws from here! Hate to throw a cog in the works but the baby may come early Ugh!!!! Lots o’luck & Love Aunty Chris xxx
Jack, Hush about your pasties and crack on with your jobs lol
Loved the video today, love the choice of colour , hope all was well with the scan. Take care guys, hugs for Tilly xx
Thank you so much, all well with the scan 🥰 x
If I was nearer 🏴I would come and help paint, I like painting but not ceilings 😕. Although yours on the boat will be lower. I was 10 days late with both my babies, but just think you could go earlier 😳. Just make sure your bag is packed and ready. Good luck 🫄🤱
Keep the video coming love watching you both. I don’t like painting it’s so boring and I too get it everywhere. Good luck with the baby cannot wait to see what you are having. 💗
We rented a house that I’m sure Bodgit & Scarper worked on!
oh no! I think all houses and boats have their hidden secrets!
Hi Jack and Gabby.
I’m with you on the side of detesting painting or wallpapering Jack…ugggg but sometimes it is a necessary evil and we just have to bite the bullet.
Little Tip for you, especially when you are expecting Wee one soon,it should be a while before little hands are busy dirtying up the paintwork but now is the time for preparation for a Tasmanian Devil Child when they get Crayons in their hands or just have dirty hands 🤷♂️.
A good thing to do with Paint especially emulsion is get yourself some PVA Glue and mix it up with some water and then Paint the mixture over ANY Painted or Varnished surfaces and then once dry it becomes clear and easily wiped clean ( You can also save yourself some ££ instead of using a Waterproof Emulsion Paint in the Bathroom/shower,just use the PVA after painting 😁 ) it’s a trade secret that most decorators will never tell though and some just mix in the PVA glue directly to the Paint in the Tin and then Charge for Waterproof Bathroom Paint.
I hate painting. I would rather shovel manure than paint. Thar said I love the colour. You are doing a great job.
Only soon to be parents care if the walls are painted 🤭. It looks wonderful.
Absolutely love the sugared almond colour you've chosen, it's perfect.
Re pasties they'd have to be vegan & as I can't eat loads of pastry or anything else really I'd manage half a pasty an hour over about 8 hours max, £4k will do nicely 😸.
Reclamation yards are great but it's a licence to print money for them as they can put any price that comes into their heads as items are individual & often unique. Still bargains to be found if you're lucky.
Good luck with the rest of the painting & the final bit of baby growing.
🤗❤Xx
A lovely way of describing the colour!! Pastry is super filling... definitely needs more consideration time 😅 A strong 4k 🙌
Thank youuu 🥰 xx
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for a great video. I love the colour of your walls. I think that I would go for four standard-size pasties (vegetable or cheese and onion). I don't want to be greedy. On the other hand, a few extra thousand would be useful!!😍😍
Thank you, great you like the colouor!! Four seems a sensible option, then the few added extras for the one-off occassion 😅
You should get friends or family to help you with this. You need the boat finished before baby gets here.
❤ Hello Guys love watching your videos about your travels and cruising on the uk waterways and canals love tilly she a cute and i bet you can't wait to me Mummy and Daddy ❤🎉
Thanks for the support!!! Nervous and excited 🥰🥰
I don’t think the colour of the paint came across very well on the video, it looked more like a sandy yellow than a pink.
I did love the seamless green colour of the outside of the boat with the grass you were moored next to in the shot where the dog jumped out of the window.
Question is where is the pasty from we talking proper Cornish obviously as that is the bigger question
I'm with you Jack. Painting is awful and I can get it anywhere apart from where it should be.
As for Cornish pasties. I think maybe 10 at a push and my husband says he could possibly do 12.
Good luck with everything but get a move on, babies don't always arrive on their due date. My daughter was very early. 🤞xx You will be fine.
7:25 I said one an hour too, but calculated that as 24 pasties, as I figured I need money rather than sleep. 😂
@7:29 "I've done something really bad. I've had 6 cornish pasties."
I would need curtains or blinds by now.
They're next on the list! We need a sewing machine which is tucked away at Gabby's parents' place
The colour doesn’t look pink to me. Saying that might do in different light. I do like it though 👍
I would have gone for a dark colour bottom half. When all the furniture is in it will open up the space and it will hide the dinks and scuffs. Dark Grey will make the other colours sing. If you go light, duck egg green or blue.
We did go dark on our previous boat - it would have been Jack's preferred choice on this one too! A muddy dog and general boat life with light paint will be interesting. We'll see how we get on haha
Hopefully using non toxic paints
Hi you 3 first of Jack you need to get your finger out 😂 if you need a building firm I run 1 we are called bodgit and scarper international 😅 on a serious note just be careful and look after Gabey ❤
Haha international?! You must be doing better than us 😂
I used to do painting as my 2nd job when I was younger. Loved watching a room come to life again.
Why not keep natural wood on the upper walls.
Just a thought.....you mentioned filling in the nail/screw holes in the panelling...will the filler crack with movement, expansion/contraction and leave an unsightly finish?
We have wondered that. We don't have much choice as the holes need filling, I guess we'll have to suck it and see!
I Cannot paint without creating a holy mess lol
Welcome to the club 😅
Jack you really have got to step up. It’s not a game anymore. You have given yourselves huge responsibilities ,so now stop chatting and get serious lol. Your Xmas present I’m afraid this year ,is a BABY. 🤗
We're getting there.....bit by bit!!!
Harsh!
But true!
Paint is nice. But I have a question. Is it safe for the flames 🔥 of the fire to go up the flue? And what is the baby’s room looking like?
Baby's room is coming along, Jack's had to remove his tools from it haha the flames don't go anywhere near the flue. The way the stove is designed means they hit the bottom of the cast iron hob - very efficient for cooking on and retaining heat
@@thistinylife I’ll sleep better knowing about the flames. You have to show the baby’s room, or are you waiting until it’s born. Tell me later. I know both of you are very busy. Thank you 🙏
DON'T PAINT IT!!!!! Leave it the natural wood colour and put a coat of clear varnish or lacquer on it. A Varathane coat would also work very well.
Love vegan pasties,so put me down for one an hour,,24grand will be great! Then would do a fast for at least a day..flush out..! Love that colour, very soothing ,cd defo live with that..really good choice.Ahh take good care, lots of rests while getting ready for the big day.❤
Haha impressive.... even during sleeping hours 😂 Good effort! Thank you 🥰
What about doing some work
What type of paint are you guys using? We bought our boat from someone who had emulsioned over wood which soon started to flake and now needs scraping off and repainting….
It is emulsion but should be pretty durable. We didn't have any problems on our previous boat with a similar but cheaper brand. We'll see!
Those mushrooms are meant to go under farm sheds to keep rats from getting in. 😮
They are indeed! These are miniature replicas though. Not sure they'd have much use on the boat!
Lovely video, its all getting very exciting now your so near to the baby coming
Jack, please get your hair cut, you look so scruffy ! Xx
48 minimum , I'm a glutton
Whaaaaaat?! You might be the winner on this 🤣
18 only? Wimp. 24 hours even if you ate one each hour you will pass that number, 🍴, bring it on. Nice to see the boat getting some paint in it, just need to stop taking all morning to chat.
Couldn't watch due to terrible over powering music!! First one we haven't watched!
Forget pasties.you need a haircut or you will scare the poor baby xx
