Unbiased, thorough review as usual. Still cannot believe this channel is under 4K subscribers. Keep up the good work!!!!!!! In regards to the last tester not being able to get his head low enough see that Remco was running the TT5 with a trimmed visor.
This is why independent testing is so important. No clear choice but some strong indications and lots of things to think about. Definitely helps point me in the correct direction.
This is my favourite channel on TH-cam, been in the sport 35 years now so always looking for any edge to go faster as I age. All those little things add up as I'm now a faster cyclist in my late 50s than in my 20s/30s and 40s
Somehow my Giro Aerohead didn’t come back home in my bike box from my last tri. The Mistral looks like a great choice. Thanks for this vid. I found your channel when researching calf sleeves. Great stuff!!
Intriguing how the Kask Mistral seems to work for different riders. I will take it into consideration on my shopping list . Great content BTW - you have deserved more viewers and subscribers!
Makes sense the giant TT5 is good for a low head position. Push the air around the body. Higher head, you need a more aero headform. Seems the Kask is super aero for more people and head positions.
THanks for sharing!! I've got something i'd love to know. Height of a between the arm bottle. People are running them up to 100+mm height. 70mm i get, because of not having the bottle directly between your arms for comfort, but this seems like an aero advantage the higher it gets.
We’ll be testing this soon. People are raising bta’s as if they’ll act like a bottle down the front of a jersey, but that’s a complete misunderstanding of the airflow.
Very good video, I have an Kask Mistral and love it. As your said, for short UCI with extension max 25 degree it's ok, but with 32,33 degree as pro triathlete today is not design for, but ekoi with Sam Laidlow provide a similar helmet for IRONMAN world championship, let's see if it's works.
Really looking forward to the Aerohead 2. It looks like the design might represent something close to “peak aero” for TT helmets, yet the race results have only been so so. Could this mean that the current top TT helmets, like the Kask, are getting close to about as good as it gets and there are only something like 5 watts to be gained by really blending the helmet into the shoulders and optimizing the leading edge?
Remco has a shorter visor version. Possibly for the same reason your athlete was having issuses with it hitting his firearms in his regular position. Either way, for Remco, the shorter visor is the faster version than the one in this video.
some of these guys have great positions; im surprised they are getting such high cda values are you calculating these figures from power data or are they measured with something like a nito ?
I was curious how the Evade 3 compares to the Evade 2, but after seeing these results I doubt that the Evade 3 is much faster. Now I'm considering getting a full aero helmet after seeing these results 😅
Hi Jim, long-time lurker here. Have you tested any of the new POC (Procen, Procen Air) helmets recently? I've been seeing EF race with one of their helmets in several road races this season.
@@fastorfiction Yes, that would be interesting; however I meant the original Aerohead used by the third (lower head position) rider. I would love to know the results of this helmet for the other two head positions for people who can't get their head as low as your test rider.
I’ve had great results on track riders. Not so much on triathletes. That’s one of those helmets that can test fast in a tunnel but isn’t as fast in the real world.
Thank you for great reviews❤ But what helmet would you suggest as an alternative in size 63 and long neck? For me Adwatt is big, well ventilated (i like to ride without visior) and light. A bit too short.
The Kask looks like the RP Wing without venting. I will stick with the RP Wing. Super comfortable, lightweight, and aero enough. Also, making power is easier in a higher position over longer distance, and running off the bike is easier when using a higher position.
@veganpotterthevegan Provide a link to the aerodynamic data that you are referring to regarding helmets looking similar to the Wing. If you can't, I will assume that your comment has no merit.
What kind of repeats are you running across this spread? How many and how long are efforts? A/B/C then A/B/C? Looking at the body movement, vibrations in your sensor, and environmental changes (i saw at least 1 video with other trail goers riding ahead of the test subject), i'd be worried about your testing spread and respective accuracy/precision.
Alex Dowsett tests the Specialized Evade against a number of different aero helmets. It is faster than most aero road helmets, but a good deal slower than any TT/Tri helmet.

Yes, I forgot to mention that!!
I actually like the channel under 4k subscribers, so too many others get too fast. 🤣
I really appreciate that you also tested riders at different watt averages for those of us that aren’t WT riders 😀

I do love the comparison videos you are doing - they are super - thanks
This is the best channel for aero testing!

Wow, this was done very very carefully. Brilliant.
Awesome content on such a hard to find topic, as I've been considering buying one of these. Thank you!
Great script and overall production on that intro!

completely agree
Absolutely love your work. Keep it up!
Thanks.

In triathlon, the visor steaming up from wet hair can be a problem. Also, if it’s a hot day ventilation and cooling might be more important than aero.

Yeah, I’d like to get my hands on a shorter shield to test.
Great vid! Did you ever do any stubble vs clean testing??

Do you have any plans on testing the Giro Aerohead? Would love to know the results of this helmet in the three different head positions
The new Aerohead 2? Absolutely.

Thanks as always Jim. What is your take on the HJC adwatt from your testing / testing you’ve seen?

Impressive! - what about new poc, flat aero??
I think the Sworks TT5 will work well on Halloween
But the cool factor can make you faster right? 😊

Can’t go wrong with a Wing.
Looks can be deceiving. Plenty of helmets look similar and test very differently

@@michaelvrbanac6923 I can't give you data that's not mine. I've done plenty of fits in the wind tunnel here in Utah before it closed.

Any plans to look at the POC Procen?
No, I don’t think so. It seems to be okay, but nothing special.
Ok. Thanks! I find it gives me slightly better coverage over the ears/shoulder than Rudy but who knows if it’s better.
Is there are any test result of the aero road helmet?

Hi, i do have the tt5. How to remove the aerosocks? 😂
Prefer the aerohead 2
It has to be hot on your head
