I darkened the stain on an old jewelry chest (all drawers), lined them with vintage lace handkerchiefs, and it became a tea box for different flavored tea bags. Everyone asks me where I bought the "antique". Mine doesn't have the tall side with the hanging device, but that would make a cute place to hang a few small antique tea spoons!
I've seen many of these makeovers using jewelry boxes because it's my favorite hobby to do, and this is the first I've seen where bleaching the wood was used and i have to say, its definitely my FAVORITE JEWELRY BOX MAKEOVER YET! Your project came out so beautiful, and not too modern. I just love this one! Thank you for the inspiration! Ill definitely give this technique a try on my next jewelry box makeover. Great video!
Fantastic up-cycle. I have 3 old jewelry boxes with 2 similar to the one you up cycled. I haven’t had the heart to get rid of them. Was trying to figure out what to use them for other than a jewelry box. Then I read through the comments and discovered a few ideas. Thank you all!
@@OurUpcycledLife Wow!, I was so surprised to see wood items at our Dumpster days. I got three large pieces of wood plus numerous small pieces. We have a junkyard but they won’t let you to take things out.
I don't know if you knew or not but Hobby Lobby has printed felt looks like kind of like your scrapbook paper that you could use inside the felt would keep things from moving around too much when you play some in the drawer and easy to get ahold of I'm just saying
I love that so much! Beautiful! I am going to try that on a vintage table with a nasty old finish on it. I am also going to seek out an old jewelry box just to try to make what you did. You are always so inspiring. Thank you💛💛
That is a big jewellery box great size. I’ve found if you sand the wood more and then do a fine sand to smooth the wood the bleach works better and gives a more professional look.

Just a tip: when removing the faux velvet, mist it with water and use a heat gun on it, it peels off so much easier and leaves less residue to scrape.
Thats a great tip!! Thanks for sharing Kelley

I certainly did alot of sanding! lol it was a big project
Can you please let me know which video shows your step by step instructions on how to do the reverse decoupage technique. I love the teqnique.
You bet here it is! : th-cam.com/video/4uYe1SXRDE4/w-d-xo.html
What I am wondering is how do you have to set your printer to make it reverse text
👍😊

I think I would do the white chalk paint...Not sure about the bleach thing...It was a risky move never know what may happen...I guess thats just me..
I paint lots of them also! Both are beautiful . Thanks for watching ! Glad you enjoyed Linda
The fabric inside is probably baize.
Better quality jewellery boxes usually have baize as a lining - the same fabric used on Pool and Snooker tables.
You might be right!! Feels like that type of material
What is Javax?
Bleach
That looks like hours of work so if you are doing this for resale, I hope you can price it so that you are paid for your time!
Good work but the look is just not for me
Love it!
