    Isn't it interesting how we all love that distressed look. It brings comfort 2 the piece. I do leather work, and making it look naturally worn-out, rather than man-made is an art within itself.

    This is so cool. It turned out really nice! I actually made over my jewelry armoire so I got the idea to start making over small jewelry boxes like the one you demo'd. I went thrifting and found 8 jewelry boxes in one day. So far I have bought more chalk paint colors, stickers, more polyeurythane and gold leaf wax. I can't wait to get started!

    Those color combination with the pouncing brush sounds and peaceful look at the end product are so engrossing. Makes all that cardboard chipping away worth it. Bees be darned. Thank you for making my day fun . Cackling at end with you to tinkling piano.

      Yes--you absolutely do! They make it so much easier! If my memory is correct, I believe I got them at the dollar store and they came in a 10 pack! I also put paint and top coat in them for my clients to take home if they ever need to touch up the paint on their pieces.

    Hi found this a few weeks late! I love giving these old vintage girls a new life. When I remove the lining and the cardboard is stuck, I spritz some water and soak the cardboard and lit it sit about five minutes. Then I come back with my scraper and a lot of the stuff comes off. Usually all you need to do is sand down the residue..

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly

    Regarding white coverage. Here's a story containing a tip. When I worked as a painter for a cement figurine co. Parts of figures painted white always required two coats. Since this was piece work number of coats matter. More costs equals more time potentially less money. Since craft type paint was issued i can't say this will work for all paints but stands to reason it should. The tip: I found it I added a small amount of gray (craft paint) to the white paint (in bottle) it made the white more opaque, it did not change the white to any noticeable differance. Result only one full coverage coat acheived. The other painters could not understand how I could get away with only one coat of white. I was able to complete a tray of figurines in law as time a made more money. By the way I did till the other painters my tip.

    I really like the inside. I have a box that is much more complex than this one that my Dad gave me when I was very young. It has the same felt interior and the same mold. I am not sure what to do about the mold and have been looking for ideas. I think that I might have to gut it..but my issues is that mine also has moldy felt lined drawers as well as the interior with that gold hanging piece and a flip top lid where the moldy ring holders are.

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! If it were me, I would gut the whole thing. You can always use felt or another soft material to re-line the drawers, or the other areas if you wish. You really don't want to mess with mold. It's not good for your health, so it's always best to remove it and start from scratch.

    • @faeriesmak
      @faeriesmak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChicAntiquebyHolly Thanks for your input! I probably will end up doing that. I have some really old stuff in it right now and am not actively using it for jewelry. I think that I can probably fine the lining felt somewhere online. It will be a large project, though, because it's a big box.

    A steamer would’ve got that out quicker

  • @stormysharp9707
    @stormysharp9707 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Plz do not use a heat gun. Literally all you need to do is get a damp paper towel or damp cloth, lay it over the old cardboard, let it sit there 10/15 mins. The cardboard should be wet/damp (not dripping wet tho) and it scrapes off sooooo easily. It takes maybe 2 mins to get it all if, if that long. I use a sharpened putty knife thingy to scrape everything out. After i have removed all the old cardboard, i scrape it a bit more to remove as much old glue as possible. Then i take another damp cloth and scrub the drawer down. Let the drawers dry good afterwards and you're good to go. Its really not that difficult. 😊
