Opening a pub in Bonby in 1970 was resisted by some villagers, who thought it might lead to drunkenness, etc. So, tongue firmly in cheek, its original name was Pandora's Box, where, of course, all the evils in the world came from. But over the door were some large letters, which said “HOPE”. For years, everyone in the village used to go and drink in “the Box”, until someone changed it into a restaurant and changed its unique name and character. Shame.
