- In late summer, a plume of warm water brought hungry yellowfin tuna within easy range of Cape Cod, where fishermen were able to target the tuna with topwater poppers.
On this trip, Anthony DeiCicchi, Chris Megan, and Jimmy Fee head to the tuna grounds with spinning rods and poppers hoping to find some surface-smashing yellowfin.

What a way to start Season 21! Awesome job to the entire OTW crew. 💯💯💯
The highs, the lows, this was epic!
"... How important the pause is. "You almost work a popper for yellowfin slower than pencil poppers for stripers". Great comment. A while back at a Gibbs lures seminar I asked how fast is the retrieve for stripers? The answer was "when you think you're going slow enough, slow down". My follow up was, "OK, how far is the retrieve in 1 minute"? Answer: 3 feet. That one answer changed my whole striper strategy. It would be confirmed years later by accident. New to casting reels and in a kayak, I created a fine birdsnest. After 2 minutes of clearing the spool, I looked around for the spook lure just as a 42" er calmly sucked the lure in from directly below in 5 feet of water. Another big piece of the puzzle.
A tuna moving 50 feet to feed in nothing. Watching a straight up strike is a lifelong memory, even if it's a miss (if only I hadn't moved it, lol).
Incredible episode…props on rhetorical catch, but better yet, the amazing crew for the camera work!
ahhh that first one slipping off the gaff ahhh!
So awesome to watch those YFT skyrocket out the water after that popper. Epic
Hell yeah!! That tuna airing out on the popper was epic!
Some really nice sized yellowfin for inshore New England! Must have been some quality intel.
😂
Over the past 3 years I have become a fanatic about the “inshore” fishing south of MV. This video really shows how diverse and special of a fishery we have here on Cape Cod so close to shore. From 50# yellows blowing up everywhere, to big mahi lurking on the pots, to a monster white marlin chasing the mahi. It really is a special place out there and not too far from home. Amazing video!
Very exciting. WHAT a trip!
Dang, best episode ever?
saw the mahi airing out instantly thought wahoo or marlin on the prowl. FIRE ME UP

Nice gaff job Chris😂
Awesome video!!! What rods you guys using?
There’s no better feeling then pointing the bow north with meat on deck . Longgg trip home otherwise
What size Yeti is that under the Tuna door on starboard side?
It's the Yeti Loadout GoBox 30 gear case.
What rod and reel u using
I think that was a Blue Marlin
Fuck yeah boys 🔥
Why don’t you just use softbaits? Here in Italy we use those softbaits named “Black Minnow by Fiish” and they are just perfect for tuna Fishing, you have to rig them with a normal hook instead of the one with which they come.
What’s a good, not to pricy rod for popping 40-60lb yellows?. I make about 4 to 5 tuna trips per season so it’s not an every weekend thing for me.
jigging world makes great stuff and the prices are fair.
I second On Jigging World. Or the Shimano Terez 7”2 either 50-100 or 65-200.
The Luminous Popping Rods that were used during filming of this sick episode might be the ticket! Available in a variety of Lengths & Powers. I'd recommend the 7'6" Medium Heavy model for what you're planning on chasing after. 😎
