Wow that’s great to hear your 22 year old Doctor is still running strong. I’ve really enjoyed mine so far… I’ve really enjoying making modifications to this bike. I’m new to the DR, wish I would’ve discovered it sooner and could have saved on purchasing other bikes. Thanks for commenting. Please subscribe and follow for my future adventures… I may need some DR advice along the way. Ol Slick
Thanks for the comment…I’m going to run that thing as hard as my old butt can😆. Please subscribe and watch my upcoming videos. Planning some camping and hopefully the trans American trail trip in 2024. Merry Christmas
Nicely done. I bought one a few weeks ago (kind of as an early 60th birthday present). It's a little too cold to ride here, but I wanted it in the garage and not waiting on me at a dealership. I am thinking about doing the factory lowering since I am on my tiptoes. We'll see. I haven't ridden in over 45 years. Shaking off a bit of rust, but I have enjoyed putt putting around on the gravel roads out here where I live.
Congratulations on getting back on that bike. A DR will be fun and you will enjoy tinkering with it ,getting it just right. I tried to factory lower mine and I stripped the hex head off that bolt so I’m trying to get that sorted. Please continue to follow me as I get ready for the trans American trail in June. You should come with me young fellow. Thanks for commenting. Ol Slick
It’s a great bike. I think you’ll be very happy with the DR 650. It’s a tough bike. I’m hoping to ride mine on the TransAmerican Trail this year. Be sure to follow my videos and enjoy that trip with me. Thanks for commenting.
ft sprocket now 14 tooth and get 58 mpg. pulls over anything . most riding on street getting to the dirt.bolted small screen and fake bubble seat but saving for seat concepts seat
Thanks for Subscribing. Check out future videos as I get ready for the Trans American Trail in June. I’m excited but a little apprehensive due to some old mad issues, but I’m going for it. Please send comments, I need all the advice or redirection I can get. Ol Slick
BTW If 60 is all you’re doing I think you won’t mind the 14 tooth front sprocket. Procycle will sell it but make sure you get the 3 hole retainer with it!! All in all its only like $35. I tried the 14 tooth and don’t like it because 65-70 is all I can do on highway otherwise its a little wound up over that. I rejetted my bike so that helps with stock gearing. Not so much clutch work being able to adjust fuel mixture screw and aftermarket needle with a tad bigger main jet.
What storage box did you put on the rear rack? I have the same rear rack, and currently have a Rotopax Fuel Pack mounted on mine when I need the extra fuel capacity. The storage box looks useful as well
I’m very satisfied with the jacket and pants. The only issue with my jacket is the Velcro on the jacket sleeves separate when I’m riding. I plan to modify my sleeves with better Velcro. If you go to my video…Mississippi mud claims two riders, you can see that I took a good fall and this gear saved me. Thank you for watching my Channel, follow me this year some bucket list adventures. Be Particular, Ol Slick
@@TommyWasHere The only issue I've had was the stitching around the outer edges of the Velcro on the sleeve cuffs is coming loose....easy fix, probably 20 bucks at my local seamstress to have them all double-stitched.
I have a 2024 DR same color. Does the windshield deflect bugs? I'm in Florida and the Love bugs are terrible. I don't mind the wind as long as it doesn't cause buffeting. I had a Kawasaki Versys 1000 and i know what you mean about not wanting to off road it. Still have my Harley though. Safe travels. I subbed so i can see what mods you do!
Thanks for replying and subscribing. That windshield only blocks from about chest down ( I’m 5’10”). I took off on a short ride with my Harley pan style helmet and turned around to get my full face helmet… too much wind in face. If I get to ride the Trans American Trail this year I’m going to get a clip on extension windshield. This is a fun bike and I’m enjoying making it my own. I still got my 7 year old street glide though also … and my 18 year old 250 Vespa 😆. I’m really satisfied with the three bikes I have now ( wife limits me to 3 ). I should do a video on why I have and why I’m happy with these bikes 🤔. Thanks again, Ol Slick

Thank you very much for the comment. I’ll look into gearing front sprocket down two teeth. Hoping the lower gear will save my clutch. Have a great holiday
I’m used to heavier bikes, so I also was wondering about the stability of this bike when I purchased it. I feel very comfortable on this bike at 65. If I go any faster I’ve got both hands on the handlebar and holding on. If I had to jump onto interstate traffic i would not be worried about it at all. If you look back on some of my videos, you’ll see that I had a Royal Enfield Himalayan and I sold it because one day I had to jump on the interstate and I thought I was gonna get killed 😆Thank you so much for your comments.
@@TommyWasHereI know how you feel when I jumped on Interstate 5 with my vintage 86 Honda 450 Rebel I thought oh no I'm going to die it was spooky as hell😂
Yeah, if you look back on my videos, you’ll see that I had a BMW 1200 GS adventure and also a Honda Africa twin adventure. Those two bikes could really do well on the interstate. However, I found them a little too heavy for my old skinny legs when I layed them down. The DR 650 Makes my rides so much more enjoyable. Thanks again for your comments.
It went down 6mpg. I compared my two mpg videos. I don’t believe this to be accurate… I think the way I was riding was making the difference. That windscreen only blocks off wind that would have hit me in the belly and lower chest otherwise. A windscreen that covers excess to your body start making a mpg difference.
You are soo correct. I was so focused on the mpg I did not think anyone would be watching this video for the windshield…sorry about that friend 😂. I’ve made another video with that bike that may show the windshield better. Thanks for replying. Ol Slick
Glad you got that seat. I got the Seat Concepts commuter and could not be more pleased with it.
Long live the mighty DR!
Indeed… I got my new tank today and can’t wait to install it. Thank you for watching my videos. 😊
Glad to see your enjoying the Doctor. I’ve had mine since 2002 and it’s still my favourite bike and still running strong.

Get it! You won’t regret it. I commute to work, do single track, blaze fire roads and moto camp off it. Put 7,000 miles on mine last year.

Hey buddy! Nice video. Hope you're loving your DR, I just got the same one a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier
I am thank you… you are on your way to a great channel . I’m subscribed keep up the good work.
I’m getting 51mpg avg with a parabellum tall. It’s the best all-round motorcycle ever.
Wow that’s great gas mileage. This is my first DR and I really like it. I’m hoping to make a trip on it this summer. Thanks for commenting friend.
You gotta be the nicest person I've ever seen... Bob Ross on a bush pig, I swear!
Man that’s the funniest comment I’ve ever received. Thank you though 😆.
Keep following, I have some good stuff next year.
Dang you’re getting 55mpg with stock jetting?! Most I ever got was 50mpg with stock. Nice
What storage box did you put on the rear rack? I have the same rear rack, and currently have a Rotopax Fuel Pack mounted on mine when I need the extra fuel capacity. The storage box looks useful as well
It’s the box sold at harbor freight. Apache 3800 I think. It’s sturdy, waterproof ,padded and well priced. Thanks for commenting friend.
I'm subscribed with the same bike and interests! What gas tank are you going with?
I got the Acerbis 20L. I think it will do the job. Working on putting it on now.
DR👍
How do you like your HWK jacket???....I have 2, a full-on ADV jacket and a mesh jacket....I like them both, especially considering the cost.

Off subject question Slick, which version of the Seat Concepts seat did you go with? I can't find a video on it from you.
I thank you for your comment. I have the comfort seat. Not low or high comfort. I give it a 7 out of 10.

Run that thing son!

Thanks for the vid. I recommend gearing the front spocket down 2 teeth.
😀
Thank you very much for the comment. I’ll look into gearing front sprocket down two teeth. Hoping the lower gear will save my clutch. Have a great holiday
I would recommend only 1 tooth difference. 1 tooth on front is like 3 on the rear.@@TommyWasHere
Dropping to a 13 tooth front will greatly shorten chain life. If you want lower gearing think about going up to a larger rear sprocket.
14T front sprocket.
Thanks for the comment… I think I may need to go with that sprocket that you mentioned. Have a great day. Please subscribe.
