Thanks to this positively excellent video , I.m ordering the Madstad windshield for my 24 DR650. (the 22" shield though, I can always lower it ) I bought my bike new in the spring and have now 3500 miles on him here and around Myrtle Beach SC. I love this bike, so light , powerful and just a pleasure to ride for a retired guy WITH NO PLACE TO GO AND ALL DAY TO GET THERE ! Lowered my pegs, seat concepts, raised handlebar 1 1/2", the adjustable air/fuel mixture screw. and thanks to you, the same handle bar canvas bag. Madstad should use your vid for both sales and instalation ! Thanks a bunch for all of your excellent content.
"Dang, I didn't expect it to be that big" - every Madstad purchaser ever lol. Yeah, they are pretty great, I had one on a CB500X and it was a real pleasure to ride on the highway. I could never hear the engine before that, it was so quiet. I could ride with my visor up, which was pretty sweet. Definitely big though, I got the 20" version as well. The 18" would have suited me fine I'm sure.
Thanks! I think i just found the ideal windshield for my dr650. I’m 6’4 so I’ll certainly order the 22 inch. Been looking for six months now and i thing this is THE ONE! 😂 Many thnaks for the video!
Nice. I put the Parabellum on mine. Not adjustable like the Madstad. Also not as bulky, and much cheaper. I'm very happy with it. Breaks the wind off my chest and gives nice, smooth flow on my face as it cuts through the air (as opposed to the random helmet buffeting with no windshield).
Madstad rocks! My helmet used to get buffeted so bad on my Victory Cross Country that I couldn't read the signs on the freeway. Madstad installed.....no buffeting at all. Go on all my bikes now. I set at my nose height when sitting and use their recommended tilt angle.
Thanks for making this. I’m switching over to it from the parabellum sport/touring tall, which I have to remove every season as things warm up. Madstad costs a bit, but that adjustability feature and protection is priceless.
Adjustability costs, but, the quality is there...bolted ones work, but not the best for all around riding. Great job....and looks fine...maybe the 18 would have been fine. Great product.
Great video, thanks, I had a suspicion you would be wowed by the results of the Madstad. I had a shocking problem with helmet buffetting on my wee-strom which had a tall Givi touring shield when I got it. I got rid of 90% of the buffeting with a madstad bracket (for the Givi); tilting the angle towards me seemed to be the most important factor (with the screen lowered by about 1/3). The remaining 10% of the buffetting I eliminated with an X-screen which clamps on to the top of the givi screen; it's about 12 inches wide and 3 inches high and is also adjustable. Without these products I would prefer clean air, but then in my part of Oz, I don't have to deal with genuinely freezing temps. On the other hand the screen cuts down on the bug splatter, rain, and gives a reflective surfae for my "you've-left-your-turn-signal-on-AGAIN-you-idiot" LED to bounce off (and into my eyes) which has probably saved my forgetful arse a few times so I take that back, the screen probably has more fors than againsts.
Appreciate you watching! Thus far I'm impressed with the Madstad, think it will work out great! I was a little shocked at how big it was and yes, it's going to help greatly when the bugs come back!
I just ordered the 18” windscreen…. I’m 6’ so it should be exactly what I needed I had a puig screen but I didn’t like the bend at the top it messed with my line of sight and besides that I looked a other screens and the all seem narrow in the middle and flare out at the top and bottom but that’s where the wind hit me the most… so I found Madstad and I’m excited to see what this windshield can do on my bmw r1200gs…thanks for the video
Regarding the turn signals hitting the tank. I just bought a set of Hippo Hands which I am looking forward to using once the snow disappears. While fitting them yesterday, I noticed that my turn signals were in the way. I had moved them up last year when I bought the Acerbis fuel tank. My solution to moving the turn signals lower was to use the reflector brackets that are on the front forks.. Switch sides with the reflector brackets (remove reflectors) and turn them upwards. Then add the turn signal light, still on the original bracket and bolt it to the top of the newly located reflector bracket. I had to drill out the reflector bolt hole by 1/8 more and it fits like a glove. The only cost was the 3/4 inch bolts I used., maybe $2.00 worth. Just an idea that may work for you too. Happy trails!
Interesting windscreen, it looks very protective. I had a much larger one on a '84 Shadow 700. It moved a lot of air, but one time the mount got loose and caused an oscilation as it unevenly dumped air so I took it off. I keep wondering the same about these "rally windshields". Maybe the smaller size makes it not such an issue.
Currently debating on getting this for my DR. I'm about 5'7, and currently trying to decide if I want the 20 or 18, and if it's worth the cost compared to others

When I saw the box I was like, surely that windshield can't be that big...nope, it was.

Awesome! Pretty stoked with mine!
Decent upgrade...I installed a cheap shield but this one is going on the to-do list.

So far I'm super stoked with mine. Spendy but it's quality. Madstad does have a video on getting the right size windshield.
buy the biggest one and cut it down?
What brand wind blockers/hand warmers you have attached to your handlebars?
