I'm considering replacing my keyboard/trackpad and mouse.
I really don't like the idea if the bluetooth dongles though, are they necessary or just an addition?

Not really, my k380 stopped working just after 3 months with mild usage while my Dell keyboard is working just fine with heavy usage
