    This is quality content. Very interesting and informative, and exactly like working in a well run workshop with experienced techs and good support. Well done, thanks for sharing and teaching us how it's done.

    Hey, I'm the creator of the ultimate-nag52 project...during my research, I've found there are actually 2 valve bodies for the 722.6 (blue/brown top solenoids have no effect in this regards), 7700mbar peak body, and 9700mbar peak body (only fitted to 113k and V12 cars). If you want a massive upgrade in what the gearbox can take without upgrading clutches, install the higher pressure valve body

    • @RANDASH
      @RANDASH 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      To add to this, all the blue top solenoids do (there is a ton of bad info on the internet), is react faster to current changes, thus, allow for a faster ramp in pressure due to their stronger valve springs, but they do not create higher pressure, they just allow for more rapid changes in pressure

    • @DrZoidbergism
      @DrZoidbergism 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There also are Versions with and without tcc dampener valve. What is the exact difference between the two valve body's?

    • @RANDASH
      @RANDASH 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DrZoidbergism yes, tcc damper valve is added to later revisions of both body's, but it doesn't affect the operation of the unit from the TCUs POV. the differences I'm talking about allow for higher working pressure. This is how the early 580 units were mated to a V12, which would output far more than 580nm of torque. It has stronger regulator springs inside, so it creates higher working pressure on the applied clutches. Swapping these 2 valve bodies without coding the tcu would be unpredictable as the pressure curve is different (X amount of current to the solenoids yields Y amount of pressure)

      @@RANDASH So as far as I understand, if I just put on a whole valve body from m113k car (p/n. A 240 270 01 06) to my w210 om606 gearbox 722.608, and use NAG52 Controller, I won't have to deal with all the v8 transmission swap fuss? And how much torque theoretically could hold such a frankenstein like 722.608 from om606 with valvebody from m113k?

    • @RANDASH
      @RANDASH 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@rokasbaltusnikas6065 your probably just better off swapping the whole gearbox, .608 is very old, and a lot of parts have been superseded by stronger components. That said, I wouldn't know exactly how much torque it can hold, since I'm yet to reverse engineer EGS51 (which .608 only came with). There are maps on the TCU for max load with a given pressure, but when I find them I'll respond to this comment :)

    10/10 for the manual valve body on the 722.6, thats a game changer !!!!

  • @classicrestouk
    @classicrestouk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Luke, there's a company called Nag52. He makes a programmable version of the TCU to help tune the shifts.

    I just replaced it with new one "from the box". After 450k it still was ok, but i got lucky, and i found a totally new gearbox in Mercedes box that was lying in a warehouse and no one needed it. I buy it, replaced front oil seal, thrust of the gear lock, main connector, and filter. Fill it with Fuch oil, make an run about 500km, and again replaced the oil and filter. So now my 25year old Benz got an brand new gear box for next 450K :)

    Along with trans-service, ( filter&fluid) I've always flushed as much fluid from the torque converter as possible without an active flush system. I simply remove and replace one liter at a time at the trans cooler inlet connection, up front until it runs clean. Usually 3-4 liters. This I do incrementally, "Before" the official startup. Nice to have a spotter with a catch can larger than 1 liter.

    Did a video a while ago on the FCP Euro channel that got into the blue top solenoids, which I did on my own car (a W208 with a 5.4L/722.636 swap). I will say, driving the car untuned and with no modifications other than the solenoids, the shifts were noticeably firmer than stock. Not jarring, but were more decisive to the point that subframe bushings moved up the priority list quickly on my 232k-mile chassis.
    When I eventually went to the OFGear standalone TCM, it HATED the blue top solenoids. The factory brown-tops paired with the OFGear was the secret sauce for someone who wanted to abandon the luxuries and comforts the 722.6 provides and instead wants the fastest shifts possible.
    Excellent video. Having done more or less this same job myself, even I learned a thing or two when it came to the valve body balls

      So what’s your conclusions about ?

    • @danny_playswithcars
      @danny_playswithcars 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd recommend the blue tops, but I'd recommend pairing them with a TCM tune meant for them. Some folks were concerned about the shift pressures being too high with them back in the day...I think that's a load of nonsense, but regardless, it is always wise to tune for modifications and hardware changes. Do the blue tops, but get a trans tune.
      And DEFINITELY do the OFGear, it was awesome. Just stick with the standard brown solenoids if your car came with them.

    Amazing vid,I wish I could do this,I have a 2000 E320 Wagon transmission is starting to have problems when cold, I have to let my wagon warm up 30 to 45 minutes before driving it after that works amazing,smooth and strong gears,I don't even feel the gears,but cold it doesn't work well,I'm starting to get really worried it's all I have to put food on the table, I live in USA and here you take it to a mechanic and then you have no transmission they will brake it,I don't trust anyone,same at the dealer, they will brake it so they can charge you more ! I did spark plugs coils and wires myself, I have to get the tools parts and corage, Study this Videos well to do it myself otherwise Mechanics will destroy my wagon!I wish I could find one of those Diesel Turbo Wagons here in USA, Amazing vid thanks for your time!

I have a 7.3 f250 so i just pour it right into fuel tank(after filtering, sometimes). I love these older diesels that have nothing choking them like dpf, scr, egr, etc. 👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🔧🔩⛓️🚜⚡💥💨💨🛢️🚦⛽🚧

    Have you done any R&D on using the 722.9 yet? I've had my valve body out of my 722.9 3 times recently, changed the conductor plate and got it working 95% But still some of the shifts feel a bit off at times.
    I didn't appreciate the function of the programming plate till watching this video, so wondering if there's a future upgrade for the 722.9 you could develop?

    Ah, gearbox gravy. Yum yum. As a retired chauffeur business proprietor I found the gearboxes pretty reliable in all of my W210s, but the diff's sometimes clunked and leaked. I could never figure out if that was due to hard driving or a general weakness...

    Hello.... thank you for the useful video, but I got a question, I replaced my car Transmission Conductor Plate NAG1 for 2007 Chrysler 300C 5.7l AWD, it works then not shifting, they told me your Transmission need programming to work correct, someone else told me it doesn't need programming, so I got confused does it need Programming as you a professional???
    Cuz am afraid to pay money for programming then if it doesn't work then you waste the money for nothing.
