Funny that EA marketing thought that the decent into madness aspect was hard to market, but here in the super future of 2019, a Joker movie about that same thing pulled in $700+ million worldwide
Seamus Perkins But how stupid do they have to be to think “oh wow descending into madness is so hard to market for a horror game.” It’s literally a trope that has been around the horror genre forever. Amnesia came out in 2010 and keeping your sanity in check was a big deal. That game was a big success. Seriously, EA marketing team is so far up their asses to think the madness aspect is hard to sell in a horror. Wow, people who see fucked up shit and live in constant fear go crazy and question their sanity. What an unlikely and difficult to understand concept.
Ah, yes, one of my favorite horror franchises that could've been great if it weren't for corporate meddling. In Carver's defense, I actually liked him as a character. He grew on me and I liked his banter with Isaac. Still, it's a shame to hear the devs having something else in mind and being forced to give that up thanks to EA, those greedy fuckers. I hope one day Dead Space can make a comeback, even bigger and better than ever before. Another great episode of Wha Happun, Mr. McMuscles! BTW, there's a video here on YT of the spinoff comic with voice acting. It's seriously well made and worth a watch.
My favourite part of dead space 3 was when I made a rocket launcher/chaingun which trivialised every enemy in the game... ...somewhat killed the suspense.
I know this is a year old comment, but I too built a suspense killing weapon: Automatic spike launcher with an air cannon on the bottom, stasis buffed to slow things down, paired with a plasma cutter so powerful it could literally one shot average necros on normal no matter where it hit them, 3-5 as I climbed harder difficulties in NG+. One of the worst parts of DS3 imo was letting us build OP ass weapons.
@@DefiantYeast0426 definitely the worst part for sure. It sound like we built the same weapon, having stasis ammo is absurdly OP, and easily kills any suspenses this game has to offer. Smh
Enjoy becoming the hunter instead of the hunted. Being terrified of the monsters and later smashing their faces in with contemptuous ease is cathartic.
Basically, publishers never learn that the best thing to do is let the game creators do what they want with the game and see what works instead if thinking they know what's best. Which is most of the time NOT what's best.
Fun fact, the general design for Carver goes as far back as the second game where they also for a short time tried to implement some sort of co-op feature when they were working on the multiplayer. Due to the fact that the multiplayer was rushed they didn't really have time to work out the kinks all that well and benched his design until the third game when they dropped the whole Shadow Isaac thing, and they decided to bring back the Carver design.
This series makes me so mad. Just let creators... create! Never interfere with an artists vision! You will almost always fail! I just hope one day these people can all get a chance to make the game they wanted...
Noticed the random use of Eyedol's theme. Neat. Also, this reminds me of the Dead Space motion comic. I watch it once every few months. It's real good.
Thank you for mentioning me. I had worried that no one remembered. I was indeed going to play a part in this game, until I was replaced by that coward Carver. I never left Isaac’s mind, I just didn’t come into play until after the show was over. But now I’m here, and I will not be thrown away again.
I still maintain that Dead Space 3 has one of the best crafting/customization systems in video games. It's not perfect of course, so that's more of a eulogy on crafting systems in video games, but I still love it to bits. Having a stasis-powered chain lightning gun/flamethrower combo is one of the most satisfying guns I've used ever.
I got a buddy into Dead Space 3 lately and I'm reliving the pure cheese strat that was the weapon customization. Shit is morrowind magic all over again.
They should've made Carver the main character to give us a fresh take on the marker's influence with a new "hero". Then the Issac/Shadow Issac thing could've been fleshed out better with Issac as a supporting character who picks off the rest of the cast without anyone knowing.
I finally found the missing element that makes Resident Evil 4 a true masterpiece- the music that plays when you get the invincibility star in Super Mario RPG
This series is amazing! I’ve watched them all in a matter of a few days and this one hits too close to home. Dead Space being one of, if not, my favorite franchises. Shame to see them go the “Carver” route. A fractured, shadow Isaac would’ve been such a good fit for the series.
Here to rewatch this in light of recent Dead Space remake... EA kills game series and a whole studio just to make it again few years later, still gonna say the original wasn't profitable...
"So I heard you changed System Shock into Dead Space." "Yes, sir." "Care to explain yourself?" "Well, sir. You see. Resident Evil 4 just got released." "...oh" *click*
My issues with Dead Space 3 - - Universal AMMO - BULLET SPONGE enemies in higher difficulties - Bad enemy design IE: Human like "zombie" Necromorphs - Poor weapon balancing - SUITS ARE ONLY COSMETIC = No benefit for wearing a "cool suit" - Suit Upgrades make you nigh UNKILLABLE - Weapons can become beyond BROKEN even making the game on HARDCORE feel like a cakewalk - PAY TO WIN DLC's EXAMPLES: Marauder Pack / Bot accelerator - Bot Capacity / Whiteness the Truth pack (whiteness shotgun and DMR are BROKEN Overpowered ) - Plot holes and annoying characters such as NORTON and weak choice of using Enemies with guns (not dead space anymore, just another Third Person shooter action "thriller") - Multiplayer making it too easy (I like CO-OP but it makes the game a complete pushover) - RATION SEALS NOT WORKING ON STEAM - Crafting system is a pain due to certain recourses not spawning (or pay 5$ for Bot accelerator and Bot capacity to fix that problem) - Weapon attachments making the weapons EVEN MORE BROKEN - Annoying Rappel / Climbing sections - Turning Dead Space into a ACTION COVER SHOOTER rather then the Horror Thriller its always been - Fear factor and HORROR elements are cheesy and predictable I can keep going but Dead Space 3 at best is a 4/10 It could have been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER but it flopped harder then a catfish in a desert even the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game is way better and only the quarter of the length of Dead Space 3 I've been playing Dead Space since 2008 and I can say, I will always gladly skip Dead Space 3 as it is a stain on the series (thanks to EA), I only play it when I feel like being goofy with friends but even then you get bored quickly as there is zero challenge once you have +3, +4 and +5 circuits and Attachments. So no, I would not say Dead Space 3 is an Underrated Gem. I would say its a pile of Horrible Ideas slapped together with duct tape and a rushed story with boring uninteresting filler content like Issacs relationship issues. IE: the ruined Ellies character Go play DEAD SPACE EXTRACTION (Wii) or the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game if you want a more fun game. But only thing is, is that DEAD SPACE 3 has CO-OP so if you want CO-OP DEAD SPACE this is your only choice (less you count Dead Space 2 PVP Multiplayer). You can blame EA for the mess that is this game.
I had a blast with this game in high school man, that 'build your own weapon' system was not intuitive to learn at all but once I got it I went really deep into it. I loved the customization of my guns itn really made me feel like Isaac the space engineer. I definitely understand most of the criticisms of the game haha but it was a thumbs up for me.
That's the thing. Game isn't bad, is actually a bonkers fun action shooter with sprinkles of horror here and there, problem is that this wasn't the dead space ppl were expecting. I actually didn't mind that much the game at the time, if that meant they could still realize more games with some new neat ideas... Let's say that visceral's ending was the begining of my hatred towards ea
@@Canalbiruta Agreed, if this were any other game in any other franchise, I’d just consider it a dumb but fun action game. But as a Dead Space game, it’s terrible.
The PC version has one of the weirdest bugs I’ve ever encountered in a game. Not game breaking but annoying and immersion breaking. The bug has those doors with the wheels constantly making a banging noise. It’s stops briefly when opening but then another door in the area will pick it up. I’m guessing it’s the sound clip that plays when opening in a loop rapidly. This is not a rare occurrence either because there are many threads on EA’s forums and elsewhere about this. Thankfully I found a fan written guide to fixing it by removing the sound file from the game.
I'm going to go ahead and say it: I did enjoy Dead Space 3. It wasn't the same as Dead Space 2 or 1, but I was able to have fun with it. I enjoyed the crafting system, I enjoyed blasting necromorphs and exploring the space ships and the ice planet. It was not a bad game. I won't say it was a great game, but I got my $60 worth of entertainment out of it.
16:56 The irony is that Resident Evil 4 was the first big shake up in the main line RE games, and was actually the 6th cannon game in the ENTIRE series.

Totally unrelated, but... the word "flotilla" causes me to start giggling like a schoolgirl. In my mind, I always pronounce "flotilla" like "tortilla" (tor-tee-ya). Then I picture a whole bunch of burritos flying through space. Then I get hungry. XD
I thoroughly enjoyed this game and have replayed it twice. Yes, its no 1 & 2 and has its hiccups but I don't understand why some dead space fans literally hate it so much.
I actually really liked the trilogy too. Even though 3 wasn't scary, but the gameplay felt good, Brother Moon was kinda badass final boss. But I fucking hate when the main story continues on DLC. The main game should have the whole story, DLC should be there for other shit that no one really wants. I had the same problem with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, except those 2 DLCs aren't on PS Store anymore. Fuck DLCs and companies like EA and Konami. And fuck necromorphs, they creepy.
Dead Space is probably my favorite video game series of all time. Even though it is over and Visceral is gone, I try to look on the bright side: Despite EA trying to drown it at every turn, it still managed to produce 6 games (1, 2, 3, Extraction, Ignition, and mobile) and alot of other cool stuff like books and animated movies. I'll always miss Dead Space and crave more but I'm still very grateful that I got to spend so much time in it's world.
@@abeish03 you do know a developer is still developing it right. EA is publishing it. EA Motive is the developer and EA is the publisher for this. EA isn’t simply re releasing the old games, they are funding a studio to remake it to obviously gauge interest in the franchise.
The flotilla idea sounds really cool. Like, the Normandy was a huge ship, but imagine if an infection occurs on one or more smaller ships and suddenly the ship layout (with strategic considerations in the macro) becomes your "dungeon" layout in the micro, as you move in to try and salvage what resources and crew you can from the remains? A kind of mashup of Mass Effect, Sunless Skies, Skull & Bones , F.T.L., and, like, the Bloodborne auto-generated dungeons or the LoZ: Wind Waker map making functionality, but with Dead Space play...
Dude, your content is so good... I've been following the industry since I was a kid but your level or comedic research is really inspiring. Bells a-click, keep it coming!
That one we can attribute to the 2013 Deadpool game, a game that went so overbudget that it nearly bankrupted High Moon Studios, despite selling very well (hence all the budget jokes in the game). With High Moon forced to lay off most of their staff the project went to Edge of Reality, who were told to make a tie-in for the 4th Transformers movie. The rest is history. Thinking about it now, that video should just be "Wha Happun: High Moon Studios".
My answer before even watching this video: The dead space ip was a niche ip to begin with. What you talking about the only one left out was pc and most gamers only play on consoles because it’s easier to come home from work click a button and sit on a couch with big flat screen then it is to boot up a pc look for steam then click and wait for that to load then click on dead space click on that load the game and then finally play plus lots of people don’t know how to build or install file’s on computer i got my first pc around dead space 2 era and i had to learn all this just to play deadlines space on my pc until I got it for play station 3 and it was so much easier 💯🙌🏼😭

@@phantomspaceman I would also like to see him talk about Shadows of the Damned and its hellish production that was ruined by EA. While not an awful game, this was not a game Suda51 and Shinji Mikami were proud of.

Yeah, but at least the weapons were really fun to use.
I know this is a year old comment, but I too built a suspense killing weapon:
Automatic spike launcher with an air cannon on the bottom, stasis buffed to slow things down, paired with a plasma cutter so powerful it could literally one shot average necros on normal no matter where it hit them, 3-5 as I climbed harder difficulties in NG+.
One of the worst parts of DS3 imo was letting us build OP ass weapons.
@@DefiantYeast0426 definitely the worst part for sure. It sound like we built the same weapon, having stasis ammo is absurdly OP, and easily kills any suspenses this game has to offer. Smh
@@apg313 it's ironic that this comment is getting a reply at this very moment, cause my SO just started playing Dead Space for the first time!

Basically, publishers never learn that the best thing to do is let the game creators do what they want with the game and see what works instead if thinking they know what's best.
Which is most of the time NOT what's best.
especially when that said publisher's "best" is pretty close to lowest common denominator
Let me guess, EA?

Fun fact, the general design for Carver goes as far back as the second game where they also for a short time tried to implement some sort of co-op feature when they were working on the multiplayer. Due to the fact that the multiplayer was rushed they didn't really have time to work out the kinks all that well and benched his design until the third game when they dropped the whole Shadow Isaac thing, and they decided to bring back the Carver design.
Here we go, this is the episode where I start drinking.
This series makes me so mad.
Just let creators... create! Never interfere with an artists vision! You will almost always fail! I just hope one day these people can all get a chance to make the game they wanted...

Time to find out why we’ll never see Isaac Clarke again lol. Good shit man 💯
Thank you for mentioning me.
Once you finally get the hang of it its a blast!
They should've made Carver the main character to give us a fresh take on the marker's influence with a new "hero". Then the Issac/Shadow Issac thing could've been fleshed out better with Issac as a supporting character who picks off the rest of the cast without anyone knowing.

This series is amazing! I’ve watched them all in a matter of a few days and this one hits too close to home. Dead Space being one of, if not, my favorite franchises. Shame to see them go the “Carver” route. A fractured, shadow Isaac would’ve been such a good fit for the series.

I was really hoping Matt would mention the "Your Mom is Gonna Hate This Game" ad campaign that ran for Dead Space 2
My issues with Dead Space 3 -
- Universal AMMO
- BULLET SPONGE enemies in higher difficulties
- Bad enemy design IE: Human like "zombie" Necromorphs
- Poor weapon balancing
- SUITS ARE ONLY COSMETIC = No benefit for wearing a "cool suit"
- Suit Upgrades make you nigh UNKILLABLE
- Weapons can become beyond BROKEN even making the game on HARDCORE feel like a cakewalk
- PAY TO WIN DLC's EXAMPLES: Marauder Pack / Bot accelerator - Bot Capacity / Whiteness the Truth pack (whiteness shotgun and DMR are BROKEN Overpowered )
- Plot holes and annoying characters such as NORTON and weak choice of using Enemies with guns (not dead space anymore, just another Third Person shooter action "thriller")
- Multiplayer making it too easy (I like CO-OP but it makes the game a complete pushover)
- RATION SEALS NOT WORKING ON STEAM
- Crafting system is a pain due to certain recourses not spawning (or pay 5$ for Bot accelerator and Bot capacity to fix that problem)
- Weapon attachments making the weapons EVEN MORE BROKEN
- Annoying Rappel / Climbing sections
- Turning Dead Space into a ACTION COVER SHOOTER rather then the Horror Thriller its always been
- Fear factor and HORROR elements are cheesy and predictable
I can keep going but Dead Space 3 at best is a 4/10
It could have been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER but it flopped harder then a catfish in a desert
even the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game is way better and only the quarter of the length of Dead Space 3
I've been playing Dead Space since 2008 and I can say, I will always gladly skip Dead Space 3 as it is a stain on the series (thanks to EA), I only play it when I feel like being goofy with friends but even then you get bored quickly as there is zero challenge once you have +3, +4 and +5 circuits and Attachments.
So no, I would not say Dead Space 3 is an Underrated Gem. I would say its a pile of Horrible Ideas slapped together with duct tape and a rushed story with boring uninteresting filler content like Issacs relationship issues. IE: the ruined Ellies character
Go play DEAD SPACE EXTRACTION (Wii) or the DEAD SPACE MOBILE game if you want a more fun game.
But only thing is, is that DEAD SPACE 3 has CO-OP so if you want CO-OP DEAD SPACE this is your only choice (less you count Dead Space 2 PVP Multiplayer).
You can blame EA for the mess that is this game.
i don’t know a single thing about dead space BUT i do know that return to dreamland music! great choice 🌟
Thanks!
It’s the year 2021 and EA announced a Dead Space remake.
Yh its hard to figure out but once you get the hang of it the crafting system is really fun!
A Dead Space remake was recently announced for those who haven't heard .
Every time someone mentions Visceral's shut down I can only think of Strauss' line in Dead Space 2: "It hurts. It still hurts."
I think this is my favorite series. I feel like I've learned so much about the game industry.
I re watch this a few times to just....re-solidfy my hate for EA for gutting one of my favorite horror series of all time.
EA: We have a whole buttload of decisions for Dead Space, and your Dev's gonna hate it.
The editing in these vids is bloody amazing. Well done whoever's doing it!
I loved it
The System Shock 2 music in the background is superb.

16:56 The irony is that Resident Evil 4 was the first big shake up in the main line RE games, and was actually the 6th cannon game in the ENTIRE series.

The third game was also riddled with bugs on launch. Neither of the first two games had that problem.

It's. Just. BAD.

Oh...

I wonder what you could find out about Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark.
I didn't wake up today intending to feel sad. Yet, here we are. Thanks.
"Make us whole," etc.
So EA have now remade Dead space so people can buy the good one AGAIN instead of fixing the problem with the franchise
My answer before even watching this video:
The dead space ip was a niche ip to begin with. And with every entry after the first one EA tried making it in the mainstream so they tried to appeal to the shooter community and take out majority of the horror aspects.
Edit:
After watching the video:
Yeah I was kinda right
Maybe after the success of DS1 remake we can get a DS2 remake and a remade truer version of DS3
we already have a DS3 REMAKE
