Needed this video this morning. I'm downsizing from my 4,000sq ft home we built in '94. I raised my family here, but my husband left and I can't afford this big house on my own. I've been crying like crazy for months and months. But I'm so grateful I got to build a house. I'm so grateful I got to have my family here. It has been filled with laughter over the years. I'm praying the new family has as much fun and love as mine did. I'm just going to concentrate on making my small rental home a lovely cozy female space until I find my small dream home. I'm thankful for my past & hoping to move forward with grace. My son keeps teasing me about pink tablecloths and pink throw cushions on the sofa, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to do a white space with pink accents. All the best to you and your lovely home.

When I went through my divorce many years ago I worried until I was almost physically sick about if I would have enough money to live in a decent place. I bought an older small home and I know where you're coming from. I made changes that I could do myself like take down wallpaper and paint. There were so many things I wanted to change but couldn't afford to but I was always so extremely grateful for my home. Fast forward to the present. A few years ago I saw my neighborhood deteriorating and decided to sell. I crunched numbers because I would be retiring soon. I told myself it's not the end of the world if I have a house payment in retirement. With a lot of creative financial planning prior to my retirement I was able to have a new home built! I've never taken things for granted my whole life even though I've yearned for this and that but I will tell you that I cried when I moved into my new home because when I went through the divorce never did I think I could have a brand new home built in a nicer area! I am truly blessed.

Volunteer work and travels have taken me to parts of the world where having a home is a luxury many people will never experience. I've been in Uganda where an entire family lived in a mud hut, obviously with no electricity or running water. I've been to Hong Kong, where a family of five lived in one room 9'x12'. At night they slept on mats on the floor and the mats were rolled up in the daytime. The mother cooked meals on a sterno burner on a tiny balcony the size of a baby's play pen. The bathroom was down the hall and serviced 12 families. So if you have a home, rented or owned, if you have an apartment, or condo, you are more fortunate than so many in our world.

I lived in rentals for decades. Feeling safe anywhere is so important. I made every space as warm and welcoming as I could for me and my daughter. Now I own my home and hers. I always feel like my home deserves to be improved to thank it for my shelter❤️

God has reminded me just this week that I've been so blessed over the course of my life. There's so much about our house that need to be done but you know what? I have heat, air, lots of stuff, food and clothing! My daughter in laws parents lost every single possession they had this summer and now her mother has terminal cancer. I stood in the shower Monday night and just sobbed my eyes out and had to repent of my whining. Every word you spoke today is truth! I have children and grandchildren that are my world. I am a daughter of the most high God who loves me a Sons worth! What more do any of us need? I pray God blesses you good!!😘

So glad you are speaking of this. Too often I see/hear influencers being very critical of a home they have as they share their renovations- calling things ugly, horrible, “what were they thinking “, etc. There could very well be a subscriber viewing who has that very thing and make them feel bad or embarrassed or that their home isn’t worthy to invite people over. It’s okay to want to change things to your own taste- but, carefully watch what we say. The thing is, styles are constantly changing and eventually everything is out of style at some point. I’m quite confident God does not care if we have old cabinets instead of open shelving. I’m grateful for my upper kitchen cabinets that have food in them. 😉

One of the things that helps me is looking at real estate listings because I’ve never seen ANYTHING on the market in my price range that is anywhere close to as charming as what I have. That’s when I start looking for ways to tweak what I have to make it better.

You are absolutely right ~ it brings to mind the verse Hebrews 13:5a ‘Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have’. Granted I’m older, so I’ve had plenty of time to learn this 😊… and ‘this too shall pass’ is another phrase I think on, when I can’t have something or something done immediately, sometimes, after the fact, I realize I’m better off without it. People want bigger and better and strive for more and more, I’m thankful for a roof over my head, a comfortable bed, and food enough to eat. Lastly, the more you have the more you’re responsible for.. less responsibility leaves precious time to be spent with our loved ones 💕

This came at just the right time! We just made a huge move from NY to TN, and we decided to rent for a year while we get settled. The house is beautiful and spacious, but it hasn't been updated in 15 years, the pantry is lacking, among other things. I'm trying to be thankful and content while we settle into the area. I'm making it beautiful.

You are absolutely right. I live in a 71 year old home. The rooms are not large to accommodate a lot of people for gatherings. It has a lot of quirks, but I love it. We bought it when I was 18 years old and expecting our first child. If the walls could talk, they could tell you some stories...lol. We've had good times and bad, but weathered it all as a family for the last 47 years in this home. We need to remember that family IS the most important thing. While it's not a mansion, when I turn the door knob...I'm home.

its funny when you talk of your orange hardwood floors. I would kill for those floors. I have old, worn bunched up carpet and cant afford to replace them. I am 70 and live alone so have no one to help with any projects . I am sure your are grateful for the amazing man you married who makes your visions come true. What a blessing. And as for your cramped quarters, thats to be expected with an expanding family. And those 4 boys will continue to grow and need more space. But you have a guy who can add a bunk room at some point to accommodate for your beautiful family. My dream is hardwood floors, an arched doorway, french doors , a house full of love and laughter. You are truly blessed.

What a well said & needed video for us all! Thank you so much for this! I too have divorced & had to down size big time! You find you really can live with less! I moved near my daughter & could not afford a house but was able to find a condo! My condo is full of sunshine through out the day! Which I'm so grateful for! Space here is very limited & I'll probably have to get rid of more stuff, cause I don't like clutter! But I'm okay with that! It's just me & I'm a very low key person. Sure I can find things to grumble about but I chose not to! Life dealt me a situation that hurt beyond measure but I do have so much to be grateful for! It's all in the attitude you choose!!! Love, love, love your videos! They give me such joy!

Andrea, this is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your heart about our common struggles as home makers. You've refreshed my perspective on the blessings right in front of me. And, yes, this concept carries over to other areas too. This stood out to me as a single girl longing to marry - for many years I heard wives complain about the habits of their husbands. I would've been thrilled to pick up those dirty socks & muddy boots! This is a lesson I hope to carry through every day of the wonderful marriage God has given. It is true. Others ARE praying for what you may have! How good God is to us all the time! Thank you so much for sharing, Andrea! ☺️

Thank you for sharing. I totally understand what your saying Andrea. My husband and I grew up poor and I guess I never realized that I was poor. I felt blessed but I did not have my own room till I was 17. I slept on the sofa for a long time. My husband and I worked hard for a lot of things we have had but we have had some really tough times and there were times I could not shop and yet I did not need anything . I just got used to be able to shop and now that I look back God taught me that I was totally fine and all my needs were supplied in those times and I was not always not happy . I just truly remember that. God has blessed us so much. We have a lot materially in our life now than some times in our past but truly I know that stuff does not bring Happiness. I know you know that too. My true Joy comes in my relationship with God and my husband and the list goes on. I just know I have times too when I look at other homes and I say wow that is a huge house or wow they have such talent and I dont in that. Yet we as humans can say stuff to ourselves that is not true because when Our negativity takes over sometimes it can run a muck in us . So I agree we have to be thankful for little things and then we do begin to realize that what may be bothering us does not bother us as much. I need to stop talking so much but thank you Andrea. Your a blessing.

Like you Andrea I am a creator and I love to change my spaces, move furniture, etc. but how I deal with wanting new or additional rooms is to try to create what it is about the space I want . For example if i say I want a home office. Do I really need a whole room for it? Maybe I just need a desk in an area that will be all my stuff. No room for a desk ? Then maybe getting some baskets that I can use to keep receipts I need, coupons I clip, invitations to events. So the bottom line is I try to “ create”: what it is I am wanting the space for. P.S. I think your basement is looking phenomenal. Absolutely gorgeous !

Agree. Greatfulness creates joy. Both are contagious. Greatfulness is a type of mindfulness that can be made into a habit with practice. Sometimes all it takes is purposefully setting aside a few moments just to think about what we are grateful for and to just be calm with those thoughts. A good tool is to establish a trigger as a reminder to think about gratitude. I used doing dishes. At first I had to put a Post-It note on my sink to remind me, then the feeling of the water on my hands would remind me. I remember that I always started with being grateful for clean water that we don't even have to boil for it to be safe to drink. Doing dishes and cleaning up the kitchen is rich with ideas for things to be grateful for: food, dishes, family, electric lights, a gas range, a clean home, etc. Steering my thoughts while doing dishes works for me, but someone else may have too many competing distractions and alone time in the shower may work better. Again, I start with being grateful for clean warm water, etc. Being grateful for a shiny toilet seat makes me look forward to wiping it down every day. Cleaning integrates with gratitude for me because cleaning keeps the every day experiences special. And decorating for Christmas makes things even more special. Gratefulness becomes interwoven with feeling cozy and content and loving and feeling loved. ❤🎄❤☕

Sometimes our vulnerable human side gets nudged by the devil! He enjoys planting doubt whenever he can and in some cases he comes out the winner! I thank God every day for my home because I know all of the shelters are full and I am one lucky woman not to be one of those shelter residents!!! If I see something I want to change I only hope that it's something I can do myself. I live on social security and I 'm a widow so either I do it or it doesn't get done. When my husband was alive he was like your husband and he could do any and every project. It's different feel now, but I also find that now that I'm older I don't need as much as I thought I once did. You are a inspiration to so many honey. Keep on complaining it will get done in God's timing. Love you!

Don’t get me wrong, there is so much to do at my house but when I start hating where I live or really disliking my house I’ve learnt it’s because I’m not happy inside and I take it out on my house with negative thoughts 💭 The realisation that I actually do this was a giant step forward for me. Acknowledging the unhappiness is my next step and then sitting with myself quietly I ask myself “How can I make life happier”?I work at what I can do to change what’s making me unhappy and where possible make those changes and then I finish with positive and grateful thoughts 💭

Thank you for the reminder to be grateful. My family of 5 has been living with my in-laws for over 2 years and is very easy to get frustrated and even angry at times. That being said my husband and I have our own room and my 3 kids have their own room. We have a bathroom for our family. We also have a sunroom to homeschool in. Guarding my mind and my tongue is so true. When I start complaining it just makes it worse.

I am thankful I have a home. When I feel discontented I realize that my focus is on the wrong things. But when I focus on Jesus who gave His life for me I can't help but feel greatful, thankful and contented. Heaven is my real home and this earth is so temporary. When I feel bad about my home here on earth I remember that I have a perfect home waiting for me in heaven. God bless you and your sweet family.

I’m just binge watching all your videos , I just recently found you . Your story about showing your boys the sunrise made me cry . I could imagine such a precious moment , that within minutes was gone , because the sunrises changes so quickly, but you took the time to appreciate and share it . My children are grown and when we chat about them growing up , I’m amazed at what they remember compared to what I thought they would remember . Follow your heart while raising your children , it won’t steer you wrong as long as your grateful , joyful, hopeful and filled Gods love ❤️

Your home is beautiful. I would never move. A larger home means there is more space between you and your family members. A love cozy homes. Big homes lose that coziness.

So timely. We sold our large, Victorian style home 3 years ago and moved into our modest ranch home about 2.5 years ago. We had big plans. Renovate the kitchen. Refinish the floors. Paint. Siding. Yard. Gazebo. Shed. Lol. We bought our home "as is" knowing it smelled of cigarette smoke and later finding out the cooktop didn't work, dishwasher was broken, microwave ( from the 80s) on its last legs, flooding on the basement and dead trees that need removal. We have big plans that have taken waaay longer than we thought, not just pandemic related but time constraints as well. When I think about the to-do list compared to the tah-dah list I can get overwhelmed. But then we talk about how much we've changed this home, and we need to be humbly proud of where we are through God's grace. We redid our kitchen opening it up just a little and used salvaged cabinetry to make it beautiful and functional. We are still using electric burners to cook and just bought a good counter-top oven because the induction range we purchased won't be here until next year, but I love a good challenge and I think I've done well baking over the last year when the oven gave out with just a toaster oven.. We painted all the first floor rooms and have eradicated the smell. We've reworked the bathroom a bit. We still have several first floor projects to finish before getting to the basement and spring & summer keep us busy outside. It's time to thrive whether our home is done or not. In fact, as I listened to this vlog I was making a grocery list for dinner as I've invited friends over to dine. And family on Sunday. It doesn't have to be perfect. The new interior doors are stacked in the hall and I need to stash my husband's door tool kit so I can vacuum but being grateful for what we have and have accomplished helps the doldrums of its not enough to be tamped down.
Time to embrace the journey, not fret over it.

You really touched my heart with the perspective of someone else praying for what I have. I always hated living in apartments and I finally got my dream house in the country, surrounded by nature and silence.
I have since been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and lupus and I often think how unfortunate I am to have those diseases that keep me from properly managing my home and it makes me feel miserable. But then I think that if I didn't have my often messy house, I'd still be sick and stuck in an enclosed space, instead of being able to enjoy the sky and the trees around. And that acknowledgement makes me stronger and willing to be better.
So I try to motivate myself, watching inspiring people such as you, doing what I can actually do, and mostly acting on my wishes: I have an Instagram account for my home that helps me feel proud of every achievement and thankful for every little corner of my space. Thank you for help me keep the focus on what is truly important.

I found such value in this video. I’m 72 and have been greatly blessed all of my life! In the past couple of years, I’ve had a few health issues that have affected my nearly perfect and spoiled life! Haha. But as I struggled to accept some of these negative things I realized just how blessed I still am! My gratefulness has come with my trials! Sometimes I find myself being grateful for the very trials that made me sad to begin with. God always knows what’s best for us!

I used to think everything had to be perfect. I saw pics and read an article about a nicely decorated and cozy home. The homeowner said she only furnishes and decorates with items that can sustain wear and tear of everyday living. It changed my whole perspective. My priorities have certainly changed over the years. Thank you for sharing; we all can be hypercritical of ourselves and our possessions.

I read years ago someone's blog post about the blessings of limitation (sadly don't recall who for credit). Bottom line, she wrote to homeschooling families about the need to appreciate how much our families learned from not having the funds to do more. Ex the joy of praising God for fall leaves collected and placed in a bowl on the table vs. a plane trip to Aspen for skiing. Having fewer options allows us to lean on Him, grow our faith and creativity, and savor life's beautiful simplicity without the stress and anxiety of overwhelming choices that honestly don't satisfy deeply. Blessings to all 🍃🍂🍁

I’ve been in this house for 28 years and so many things need to be redone, but I am grateful every day. I grew up in a suburb of New York City so it was super crowded now I have a house with a fireplace that I always wanted and pine trees all over my yard. It sounds silly but those were things I always wanted when I was little 🥰

This has been my number one struggle! I'm very impatient when it comes to seeing my house remodel plans come to fruition, and in the past I'd get so upset. But I was reminded recently that the Lord really wants us to be content in everything He's given us. This is after all, a temporary state we are in, and we can't take our homes up to heaven. I'm reminded of the Israelites in the desert, and how their discontentment cost them the promise land. So cultivating contentment is hard, and It's a process, but we can get there! ☺️

I've heard of you through other TH-cam channels, so tonight I decided to check out your channel. I am so thankful that I chose this particular episode! I have too often given in to grumbling and complaining about my home. My home has many flaws , so many things that need fixing and improving that it gets overwhelming to think about. I could tell you all about it but , instead I need to tell you that this is an answer to prayer, " God, help me to be grateful for what I do have." I also pray for wisdom as I care for our home, clear out clutter and reorganize the spaces. Thank you for these helpful suggestions. The one that hit home the most was thinking that there is someone out there that is praying for a house like this. Truly it is very humble but, yes, it is a roof over our heads and walls that keep the heat in ( or the cool in) reasonably well. We all have beds to sleep in ...I really could make a very long list of our blessings! ~ Heather ~
