Granted I’m now 69 and Thrifted before it was trendy I love home decor and have always been a creative DIY girl Friends always are impressed with how I’ve created our home or the beautiful clothes I sewed or knit for our 3 children. As a Christian it’s a way to show my love by what i value as a priority . I must say now that I’m much older I am more free to spend and I do ,but thrift stores and antique shops still call my name . Almost three minutes in and I totally agree. I think people don't realize or it's a cop out that they don't realize how or where they are spending money. We trade our time (life) to earn money to buy products that we, more times than not, end up throwing away. I am super frugal and my husband does have to say sometimes, we can have this. Seventy five percent of what we own is from the thrift store including clothes and everyone that comes into our house always says it feels so warm and inviting. As Americans I think we focus too much on having everything perfect. I want a home that you feel okay plopping on the chair instead of feeling like you might damage something or cause a smug. We have grandparents and parents that leave us whole houses full of stuff when they pass and people barely keep any of it because it's been well loved or it's not nice enough, or it's not the exact style we want. I agree about the hair cuts, I do the same thing and my own. It's funny how we've given up our grooming of eyebrows and nails and hair etc... to other people. We're suppose to be able to do anything in this day and age and give up all the responsibility to other people. We go out for food, pay someone for maintenance on our vehicles and yards, pay someone to entertain us. One thing that really would help most people is to wait to make a purchase, wait one week or one month and if you still need it, then get it. It's the need part that most people have a problem with and the waiting lol. We always buy a used vehicle and have never have a problem, mostly over three years old or more. The insurance and registration is always cheaper and if the car has issues, it's usually within the first three years purchase. We bring snacks if we're going to be away from our home and bottled water. We go to the theater maybe three times a year at most. My son is twelve and almost everything was purchased second hand since he was a baby. He has a better wardrobe than most kids and I've even been able to resell some of the clothes at a higher price after he's grown out of them. I think the thing that would help save the most money is the thought that we are entitled to "whatever" because we work hard and deserve it. Or, I'll just get this because it's easier. Nice to see more video's on being frugal. Sorry for the long post, lol I'm a little more than passionate about this and could just go on and on.

I am 70 and thrifted long before it was popular..it was a need because as a young married lady it was a need because money was tight but now I do it for the fun of the hunt .I love thrifting always have..wise words from a wonderful beautiful lady .hope your subscriber s listen and learn from you..

If you use a card and pay it so that you never have to pay any interest but get all of the advantages like points and discounts is a wise and beneficial way to use credit. We thrift a lot, use facebook marketplace, and my favorite place to shop is Habitat Restore. We live in Williamsburg and Habitat gets lots of antiques we want but could only afford used.
I follow Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze. I love your tips and they also have great ones. I'm actually as of last week debt free! I own a house, car, lot of land and a business. Dave's steps work.
Dave ‘s Baby Steps do work, but it takes a lot of discipline and perseverance especially when low income. We are debt free but our home. We been throwing everything we can at our mortgage plus the emergency fund. Home balance : $33,000. Emergency fund $10,000.🪴We avoid going out to eat. We do not shop retail stores. We walk a few miles a day outside for exercise and fun. We pay cash for our cars (by saving up the money)🪴

We didn't wear jewelry, we never paid any attention to what was in style or trendy. We sewed our own modest dresses! We hardly ever ate out! In fact, the first time I ate inside a restaurant was when I was dating.! 😁 We made our food from scratch. We didn't paint our nails nor did we use makeup. We lived a simple lifestyle and we were happy! 😁 This is still the way we live. 😁 I love your videos!

Great advice. I have been buying second hand since I got married 38 years ago. This has helped us in so many ways. Our son always had thrift store clothing and that helps when your kids grow so fast. Keep doing it great job!!
When our son was little, a girlfriend of mine had a sister who bought her three children brand new wardrobes every season of every year. So three-four times a year my son got so many clothes that we took what we needed and gave the rest to another friend of his from school. There were so many clothes, many with tags still on them, brand name! I was flabbergasted and I appreciated them so much at a time we really needed the extra help. We also got a lot of toys from this family too. Such a blessing. I’m very grateful. Even all of these years later.

I started cutting my own hair during the pandemic. I'm not sure what it looks like in the back, but the front and sides are pretty good. Don't think I'll ever go back to the hairdresser. I'll just try and learn how to get better at doing it myself. I love all of your tips. I stopped eating meat about 10 years ago and eat a lot of beans and legumes. Cooking them on the stove can take forever, plus it uses up a lot gas, which is now extremely expensive. I invested in an Instant Pot. Best thing I ever did. I can throw dry chickpeas and water into the pot, and an hour later they're ready. No cans, no jars to throw away.
Great tips, thank you and yes this video has helped. My mom was very frugal and the biggest tip I got from her was..., to stay home lol. I used to go out to antique/flea/thrift shops just look but naturally would buy something but now I go with an idea of what I have in mind and a place to put it once I got it home.

She published a newsletter by the same name in the 1990s and the books are compilations of the newsletters. I was a subscriber then and I learned so much from her. Some of the content is dated now but most info is timeless. She coaches readers on how to approach frugalism with creativity and practicality. Plus, she raised a large family on her techniques.
I still have Amy’s original newsletters. I subscribed in 1990, I think. She had such great ideas and we all have fond memories of some of her content. She was like a mentor to me when no one else around me was being frugal!

I love what you say and I truly hope people will heed. I'm 67 and still working to pay off my credit cards. Most of the debt was actually for actual needs when I didn't have enough work to pay the bills, so I totally understand in this day and age when people are out of work and are trying to just have a roof over their heads and food on the table. But, I will admit that I charged stuff to get myself set up after I made a couple of major moves...and charged the truck rental for moving. Almost everything was a necessary expense and I simply didn't have the money. I'm grateful at my age that I still have a really good job and can get this all cleared before I retire! From the book "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel: "Wealth is the nice cars not purchased. The diamonds not bought. The watches not worn, the clothes forgone and the first-class upgrade declined. Wealth is financial assets that haven't yet been converted into the stuff you see. " And if you are in a position where you are extremely frugal like I was, but cannot make ends meet, I hope you will find yourself in a position later in life where you can pay off the debt. The killer is really the interest that is charged when you accumulate a lot of debt. It makes it almost impossible to get beyond just paying the interest every month and get to paying down the actual debt!!
We do most of the things you do. I went to the thrift store today and found a brand new child's book of Bible stories with CDs and a knife with sheaf to put in my hubby's lunch for $4!! I make most of our meals from scratch; hang most of our clothes, blankets, and swim gear to air dry; use homemade flannel wipes instead of paper towels; and use cloth napkins. Because we live in the country we have a small freezer for extra meat, veges, fruits, milk, and bread. We have 5 gallon food buckets to store grains and beans. This came in handy last year, especially at the beginning of the lockdown and in February when we had the arctic freeze. My hubby was so resourceful and brought in our camp stove and lantern; melted snow for water; and hooked up the canoe battery to charge our Kindles and phones.
This is a wonderful reminder of the importance of taking care of ourselves & family & to use what we have & be grateful. Frugal at every age is important to live within our means. You have wisdom & it shows in everything you have & work at everyday. Your home is beautiful like your heart.
We cut down on our costs by doing pay as you go phones. We both pay in total 200$ a year for our cell service. Then there is ooma for land line. We only pay $5 service fee from the phone company. Both our cars have over 100,000 miles on them, but they run and we maintain them ourselves. I stay at home with the kids because we save and manage our $ so well.
The reality is now a credit card is a necessity. First to establish credit, to rent a hotel room, to rent a car, etc. My parents taught me that a credit card must be paid off every month to not incur debt. Thanks for sharing your tips.❤

I've bought second hand items all my life, and never regretted it. I get such joy when I find things I need or love. Sadly now as I get older my health is an issue and I don't want my 2 sons to have to deal with my 'treasures'. I'm going to try this summer to sell on line with the help of a friend as I sure am not computer sauvy. Look at my spelling..... Hope to see the basement redo in the future.
I just love your channel, you have been inspiration to me since we moved into our home. We are living in the house that we're building. It's been challenging with a family and living in a semi unfinished space. I love decorating and making my house a home, so it's been hard to not be able to do that. I know we need to save money now and focus on building the house. It's just a slow process since we're doing it mostly ourselves. I've tried to make as much pretty as I possibly can but it's just so hard to wait for the house to be done! You've helped me nail down my style and I went to my first antique shop recently!
Hi, Andrea! My daughter and I were just talking about you last week! We were commenting on how much we love your frugality. And then, this video came out! ☺️ I learned how to cut my hubby's hair too. It's not perfect, but I've definitely gotten better over time! I just did the math: if a haircut cost $10 a month, we've saved $1800 over 15 years. Or, a more expensive $15 monthly cut saved us $2700. Little things do add up. Thanks for all your suggestions!
We have saved a ton of money by eating leftovers and not going out to eat except for a special occasion. I only buy new clothes when the old ones wear out. Great ideas! So many working moms could stay home with some creative and disciplined budgeting!
Love your video this morning sweetheart, your tips your heart giving advice is so true as a mother grandmother and great grandmother I have been pretty much like you are throughout my life give-and-take some things I’ve had to learn credit cards were one of them but I can say this I am thankful to say that I do not have a credit card other than just my visa to pay like you say for things as long as the money is always in the account LOL but cooking I’ve always been a person that cooks and has been watchful make sure the foods don’t get thrown away leftovers are eaten in some homes they are not. Things that I do in my home I always try to repurpose fix make new! This is one of my favorite videos of yours. My husband and I have lived (and still do) the life that you are describing as well. Today we have what we have because we have been frugal. Our kids call us cheap or tight occasionally, but we just laugh at them and say this is why we have what we have today. Your video has made me look throughout my home and made me realize that so much of what we have we have had for almost 50 years! Friends who come over comment how our home looks so welcoming and how lovely it is. So, I think it mustn’t look outdated🥰 We take care of everything we have so that we don’t have to continuously replace things. For example, we sometimes see how people leave their riding mowers sitting out in the weather….why not take care of it so it doesn’t need to be replaced??? Crazy! Anyway, if someone teases you about being “frugal” don’t let it bother you….look what you have. Your home is so lovely and you made it so by doing things yourselves and watching how you spend your money. No need to apologize about that!

I think it is awesome that you do not desire to shop for clothes much. I have always liked to shop for clothes and of course I shop for used clothes but I Have to teach myself wear what you have as long as you can and here and there update your closet. So that is a great piece of self control you have.
Well done! You ARE a kindred spirit. All things that have been a part of my life. Since moving to our present location we have found a ReStore in our area. We have updated a lot of our lighting, plumbing fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. by buying the great stuff there. Your be surprised what people don't want anymore, stuff that's currently still in stores for full retail!! Also an amazing source for MCM decor that come in from estates. I've slipcovered sofas and chairs from there. I feel more confident buying upholstered furniture there as they don't take stuff that's trashed. Thank you, Andrea! You are such an encouragement! The items you have shared Are very wise. My husband and I are frugile in many ways and I have shopped used for many many years. I just like to get as much as I can for my money. It sounds like you have a great mindset of being frugile. I also agree completely that when teaching your kids you are more concerned in life with what is in their heart than that outward appearance. That is what the Lord says. The world says so much is about what you own or how you look and that is not true and brings so much confusion to children with growing up. Our society is a retail type of society so it is the push to shop shop shop. So if we can control that it truly does help us. I admire you for not being a impulse buyer. That is very smart. I have to work on not impulse buying at times. I am getting better.
I pay everything I purchase with my credit card. I must say that when I use it, I certainly already have the money to pay for it cash. I also make sure to pay totally before the date limit so I never pay interest. So with the discipline I have and the cashback reward once a year, I can tell you that I MAKE an average of 70$ to 100$ a year with my credit card and this for the last 5-6 years.
Yellow dye causes anxiety (not the only cause obviously, but I try to recognize that when I do eat it.) Red dye causes hyperactivity... lol makes sense as an adult now why hot cheetos used to make me and my friends hyper.
As far as meals..I used to come up with meals from what I had, was “Cindy Surprise” (if it turned out) and a “Mommy Mistake” if it didn’t. It was fun to see what you could come up with. Watch the sodium in convenience foods!
Loved this video! I grew up in a wealthy family and for my parents, it caused a lot of bitterness and pain. So, I determined at a young age to be frugal and boy did I need to be when we first got married. I had a budget of $30/week for groceries, I cut everyone’s hair and we grew vegetables for a hobby! I also sewed for others. It was a wonderful time of life. I loved making a game out of seeing how little I could spend on everything. Thankfully, my husband learned how to fix and build things in his childhood, so we didn’t have to hire people. Our kids never thought we were poor. I was laughing because I was doing my own nails right when you said, “you don’t have to get your nails done.” Haha, I think I’ve only had them done twice in my life! Tomorrow I have a big birthday and I still didn’t want them done because I don’t like polish, and the shops get upset when you just want the filing done!! So, thank you, Andrea, for speaking up on this topic. I think frugality is always in style!
I am 70 years old and do my own haircuts and color. Have never had a mani pedi or massage....have had one credit card for 35 years and pay it off every 2 weeks ... only allow a certain amt on it that I am sure I can pay off . Also eat most of my meals at home.. do treat myself to lunch out with a friend or an occasional dinner .. but its a treat .. not a habit ..love thrift shopping . But the best part is at my age when I do go shopping I look and say ... have it.. had it and gave it away.. have something similar.. dont need another bunny, pumpkin or santa!!! haha its quite liberating .
Amen and Amen! Kids get used to whatever they are given early on. Give them junk food and that’s what they will always want. Give them whole, healthy foods and that’s what they will want. For the most part my family has always eaten healthy but to be honest, I allowed my kids to have too many sweets mainly because I always had a huge sweet tooth even though every meal my parents fed me was extremely healthy. We almost never had sweets at my house when I was a child. Not sure where my sweet tooth came from. My family’s clothing through the years had been a combination of second hand and new. We’ve bought used cars and new. We both used to have to travel for several years long distances to our jobs so a new car afforded us great peace of mind. Those cars were bought at great prices and were great deals and we drive them until they’re 12 years old and literally fall apart on the road. We’ve already had that happen twice. We also took the Dave Ramsey course and became debt free except mortgage now we’re chiseling away at that. You’re wise beyond your years! Thank you for encouraging others and for living by example! You had me in hysterics laughing about cutting hair. I cut my mother's hair once she looked like a boy -short back and sides! And I cut my son's hair once also . Notice I say once. Anyway my son's hair was lopsided as the my son moved when the dog licked him. From then on my son went to the barbers and my mother made other arrangements!!
I have six children, 5 of which love to craft. I use to buy thrifted crafts just because they are cheap. I realized I was just cutting things because they were cheap without thinking what projects could be made from them We had so many craft supplies that were rarely used. It took up so much space and stressed me out so much. Though I buy used a lot for other things, but not often for crafts. Buying then at the store actually saves me money. Another thing I do is I have a designated place for crafts. All crafts must fit there or we can't buy more.
I buy most of my clothes second hand too! I highly recommend buying and selling on Poshmark or ThredUP. You can sell your old clothes (you’ll make more on Poshmark, but you have to do all the work yourself) and then I use my sold credits to buy new clothes when I need them. Plus, you can invest in higher quality brands that will last longer than fast fashion but pay that second-hand price.

You should check out the Frugal Fit Mom TH-cam channel. She cooks for a large family and does a lot of pantry/freezer cleanout meals, which are my favorite of hers because she gets creative, and frugal grocery hauls.
Just one additional suggestion is to have your family drink water and brush their teeth regularly. They will have better health and fewer cavities!! Save on those bills for sure!! ☺️

I am like you, I’ve never had a credit card but I’m coming around the idea of getting one, again only because of the perks. But there are soooooo many options I’m so overwhelmed and just plain stressed with picking one. I would really appreciate your recommendation.
I actually don't have a lot of parties, in fact I am not sure if I have ever had one? For birthdays we usually just invide family and cousins, I make the cake and food and we celebrate with simple decor!
I am learning to be very frugal it is a hard lesson to learn when your not used to it on some things i have always been frugal in a lot of ways but We have decided to sell our home which was a very hard decision to move into 1/2 of the size and we are living in now. we will remodelling the other home because it needs it badly it was a rental house and then we will be pretty much debt free very hard decision to make but we are 50 and 54 we have decided it would Be best for us Even though the home is a little bit smaller we will be going down from 2500² feeds to 1250² Square feet is going to be hard we are downsizing at lots But i know I can do all times through Christ Jesus which strengthen And we will not have a $1300 months house payment And thank God we got full asking price Sewed to the 2nd person that looked at it Look at all my saturdy bought it on Monday Pay a 100000 down on it for earnest moneyI know that was God I had prayed about it
Great video and excellent values. I'm curious, are you homeschooling due to the pandemic, or for other reasons? As a retired teacher, I want to kindly point out a few thoughts as to why it is good for children to be in school. It allows them to socialize beyond their own family. It fosters acceptance of diversity when a classroom has people with a variety of nationalities, religions, income levels etc. A school has a library, gym, music room, computer and science labs, etc. that the average home cannot supply. Also your children will develop more independence going off to school. When they come home, the stories of what they did can be shared. If everyone stays at home, then everyone has similar experiences. Children need to go out into a wider world.

Seventy five percent of what we own is from the thrift store including clothes and everyone that comes into our house always says it feels so warm and inviting. As Americans I think we focus too much on having everything perfect. I want a home that you feel okay plopping on the chair instead of feeling like you might damage something or cause a smug. We have grandparents and parents that leave us whole houses full of stuff when they pass and people barely keep any of it because it's been well loved or it's not nice enough, or it's not the exact style we want. I agree about the hair cuts, I do the same thing and my own. It's funny how we've given up our grooming of eyebrows and nails and hair etc... to other people. We're suppose to be able to do anything in this day and age and give up all the responsibility to other people. We go out for food, pay someone for maintenance on our vehicles and yards, pay someone to entertain us. One thing that really would help most people is to wait to make a purchase, wait one week or one month and if you still need it, then get it. It's the need part that most people have a problem with and the waiting lol. We always buy a used vehicle and have never have a problem, mostly over three years old or more. The insurance and registration is always cheaper and if the car has issues, it's usually within the first three years purchase. We bring snacks if we're going to be away from our home and bottled water. We go to the theater maybe three times a year at most. My son is twelve and almost everything was purchased second hand since he was a baby. He has a better wardrobe than most kids and I've even been able to resell some of the clothes at a higher price after he's grown out of them. I think the thing that would help save the most money is the thought that we are entitled to "whatever" because we work hard and deserve it. Or, I'll just get this because it's easier. Nice to see more video's on being frugal. Sorry for the long post, lol I'm a little more than passionate about this and could just go on and on.

If you use a card and pay it so that you never have to pay any interest but get all of the advantages like points and discounts is a wise and beneficial way to use credit. We thrift a lot, use facebook marketplace, and my favorite place to shop is Habitat Restore. We live in Williamsburg and Habitat gets lots of antiques we want but could only afford used.
I follow Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze. I love your tips and they also have great ones. I'm actually as of last week debt free! I own a house, car, lot of land and a business. Dave's steps work.

Dave ‘s Baby Steps do work, but it takes a lot of discipline and perseverance especially when low income. We are debt free but our home. We been throwing everything we can at our mortgage plus the emergency fund. Home balance : $33,000. Emergency fund $10,000.🪴We avoid going out to eat. We do not shop retail stores. We walk a few miles a day outside for exercise and fun. We pay cash for our cars (by saving up the money)🪴

We didn't wear jewelry, we never paid any attention to what was in style or trendy. We sewed our own modest dresses! We hardly ever ate out! In fact, the first time I ate inside a restaurant was when I was dating.! 😁 We made our food from scratch. We didn't paint our nails nor did we use makeup. Great advice. I have been buying second hand since I got married 38 years ago. This has helped us in so many ways. Our son always had thrift store clothing and that helps when your kids grow so fast. Keep doing it great job!!
When our son was little, a girlfriend of mine had a sister who bought her three children brand new wardrobes every season of every year. So three-four times a year my son got so many clothes that we took what we needed and gave the rest to another friend of his from school. There were so many clothes, many with tags still on them, brand name! I was flabbergasted and I appreciated them so much at a time we really needed the extra help. We also got a lot of toys from this family too. Such a blessing. I’m very grateful. Even all of these years later.

I started cutting my own hair during the pandemic. I'm not sure what it looks like in the back, but the front and sides are pretty good. Don't think I'll ever go back to the hairdresser. I'll just try and learn how to get better at doing it myself. I love all of your tips. I stopped eating meat about 10 years ago and eat a lot of beans and legumes. Cooking them on the stove can take forever, plus it uses up a lot gas, which is now extremely expensive. I invested in an Instant Pot. Best thing I ever did. I can throw dry chickpeas and water into the pot, and an hour later they're ready. No cans, no jars to throw away.

I used to go out to antique/flea/thrift shops just look but naturally would buy something but now I go with an idea of what I have in mind and a place to put it once I got it home.

It's really hard when one of you is a spender & the other is not. I have also been accused of being tight. We just don't believe in being wasteful. She published a newsletter by the same name in the 1990s and the books are compilations of the newsletters. I was a subscriber then and I learned so much from her. Some of the content is dated now but most info is timeless. She coaches readers on how to approach frugalism with creativity and practicality. Plus, she raised a large family on her techniques.
I still have Amy’s original newsletters. I subscribed in 1990, I think. She had such great ideas and we all have fond memories of some of her content. She was like a mentor to me when no one else around me was being frugal!

I love what you say and I truly hope people will heed. I'm 67 and still working to pay off my credit cards. Most of the debt was actually for actual needs when I didn't have enough work to pay the bills, so I totally understand in this day and age when people are out of work and are trying to just have a roof over their heads and food on the table. But, I will admit that I charged stuff to get myself set up after I made a couple of major moves...and charged the truck rental for moving. Almost everything was a necessary expense and I simply didn't have the money. I'm grateful at my age that I still have a really good job and can get this all cleared before I retire! From the book "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel: "Wealth is the nice cars not purchased. The diamonds not bought. The watches not worn, the clothes forgone and the first-class upgrade declined. Wealth is financial assets that haven't yet been converted into the stuff you see. " And if you are in a position where you are extremely frugal like I was, but cannot make ends meet, I hope you will find yourself in a position later in life where you can pay off the debt. The killer is really the interest that is charged when you accumulate a lot of debt. It makes it almost impossible to get beyond just paying the interest every month and get to paying down the actual debt!!
We do most of the things you do. I went to the thrift store today and found a brand new child's book of Bible stories with CDs and a knife with sheaf to put in my hubby's lunch for $4!! I make most of our meals from scratch; hang most of our clothes, blankets, and swim gear to air dry; use homemade flannel wipes instead of paper towels; and use cloth napkins. Because we live in the country we have a small freezer for extra meat, veges, fruits, milk, and bread. We have 5 gallon food buckets to store grains and beans. This came in handy last year, especially at the beginning of the lockdown and in February when we had the arctic freeze. My hubby was so resourceful and brought in our camp stove and lantern; melted snow for water; and hooked up the canoe battery to charge our Kindles and phones.
This is a wonderful reminder of the importance of taking care of ourselves & family & to use what we have & be grateful. Frugal at every age is important to live within our means. You have wisdom & it shows in everything you have & work at everyday. Your home is beautiful like your heart.
We cut down on our costs by doing pay as you go phones. We both pay in total 200$ a year for our cell service. Then there is ooma for land line. We only pay $5 service fee from the phone company. Both our cars have over 100,000 miles on them, but they run and we maintain them ourselves. I stay at home with the kids because we save and manage our $ so well.
The reality is now a credit card is a necessity. First to establish credit, to rent a hotel room, to rent a car, etc. My parents taught me that a credit card must be paid off every month to not incur debt. Thanks for sharing your tips.❤

I've bought second hand items all my life, and never regretted it. I get such joy when I find things I need or love. Sadly now as I get older my health is an issue and I don't want my 2 sons to have to deal with my 'treasures'. I'm going to try this summer to sell on line with the help of a friend as I sure am not computer sauvy. Look at my spelling..... Hope to see the basement redo in the future.
I just love your channel, you have been inspiration to me since we moved into our home. We are living in the house that we're building. It's been challenging with a family and living in a semi unfinished space. I love decorating and making my house a home, so it's been hard to not be able to do that. I know we need to save money now and focus on building the house. It's just a slow process since we're doing it mostly ourselves. It's not perfect, but I've definitely gotten better over time! I just did the math: if a haircut cost $10 a month, we've saved $1800 over 15 years. Or, a more expensive $15 monthly cut saved us $2700. Little things do add up. Thanks for all your suggestions!

We have saved a ton of money by eating leftovers and not going out to eat except for a special occasion. I only buy new clothes when the old ones wear out. Great ideas! So many working moms could stay home with some creative and disciplined budgeting!

Things that I do in my home I always try to repurpose fix make new! This is one of my favorite videos of yours. My husband and I have lived (and still do) the life that you are describing as well. Today we have what we have because we have been frugal. Our kids call us cheap or tight occasionally, but we just laugh at them and say this is why we have what we have today. Your video has made me look throughout my home and made me realize that so much of what we have we have had for almost 50 years! Friends who come over comment how our home looks so welcoming and how lovely it is. So, I think it mustn’t look outdated🥰 We take care of everything we have so that we don’t have to continuously replace things. For example, we sometimes see how people leave their riding mowers sitting out in the weather….why not take care of it so it doesn’t need to be replaced??? Crazy! Anyway, if someone teases you about being “frugal” don’t let it bother you….look what you have. Your home is so lovely and you made it so by doing things yourselves and watching how you spend your money. No need to apologize about that!

I think it is awesome that you do not desire to shop for clothes much. I have always liked to shop for clothes and of course I shop for used clothes but I Have to teach myself wear what you have as long as you can and here and there update your closet. Well done! You ARE a kindred spirit. All things that have been a part of my life. Since moving to our present location we have found a ReStore in our area. We have updated a lot of our lighting, plumbing fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. by buying the great stuff there. Your be surprised what people don't want anymore, stuff that's currently still in stores for full retail!! Also an amazing source for MCM decor that come in from estates. I've slipcovered sofas and chairs from there. I feel more confident buying upholstered furniture there as they don't take stuff that's trashed. Thank you, Andrea! You are such an encouragement! The items you have shared Are very wise. My husband and I are frugile in many ways and I have shopped used for many many years. I just like to get as much as I can for my money. It sounds like you have a great mindset of being frugile. I also agree completely that when teaching your kids you are more concerned in life with what is in their heart than that outward appearance. That is what the Lord says. The world says so much is about what you own or how you look and that is not true and brings so much confusion to children with growing up. Our society is a retail type of society so it is the push to shop shop shop. So if we can control that it truly does help us. I admire you for not being a impulse buyer. That is very smart. I have to work on not impulse buying at times. I am getting better.

I pay everything I purchase with my credit card. I must say that when I use it, I certainly already have the money to pay for it cash. I also make sure to pay totally before the date limit so I never pay interest. So with the discipline I have and the cashback reward once a year, I can tell you that I MAKE an average of 70$ to 100$ a year with my credit card and this for the last 5-6 years.

Yellow dye causes anxiety (not the only cause obviously, but I try to recognize that when I do eat it.) Red dye causes hyperactivity... lol makes sense as an adult now why hot cheetos used to make me and my friends hyper.

As far as meals..I used to come up with meals from what I had, was “Cindy Surprise” (if it turned out) and a “Mommy Mistake” if it didn’t. It was fun to see what you could come up with. Watch the sodium in convenience foods!

Loved this video! I grew up in a wealthy family and for my parents, it caused a lot of bitterness and pain. So, I determined at a young age to be frugal and boy did I need to be when we first got married. I had a budget of $30/week for groceries, I cut everyone’s hair and we grew vegetables for a hobby! I also sewed for others. It was a wonderful time of life. I loved making a game out of seeing how little I could spend on everything. Thankfully, my husband learned how to fix and build things in his childhood, so we didn’t have to hire people. Our kids never thought we were poor. I was laughing because I was doing my own nails right when you said, “you don’t have to get your nails done.” Haha, I think I’ve only had them done twice in my life! Tomorrow I have a big birthday and I still didn’t want them done because I don’t like polish, and the shops get upset when you just want the filing done!! So, thank you, Andrea, for speaking up on this topic. I think frugality is always in style!
I am 70 years old and do my own haircuts and color. Have never had a mani pedi or massage....have had one credit card for 35 years and pay it off every 2 weeks ... only allow a certain amt on it that I am sure I can pay off . Also eat most of my meals at home.. do treat myself to lunch out with a friend or an occasional dinner .. but its a treat .. not a habit ..love thrift shopping . But the best part is at my age when I do go shopping I look and say ... have it.. had it and gave it away.. have something similar.. dont need another bunny, pumpkin or santa!!! haha its quite liberating .

Amen and Amen! Kids get used to whatever they are given early on. Give them junk food and that’s what they will always want. Give them whole, healthy foods and that’s what they will want. For the most part my family has always eaten healthy but to be honest, I allowed my kids to have too many sweets mainly because I always had a huge sweet tooth even though every meal my parents fed me was extremely healthy. We almost never had sweets at my house when I was a child. Not sure where my sweet tooth came from. My family’s clothing through the years had been a combination of second hand and new. We’ve bought used cars and new. We both used to have to travel for several years long distances to our jobs so a new car afforded us great peace of mind. Those cars were bought at great prices and were great deals and we drive them until they’re 12 years old and literally fall apart on the road. We’ve already had that happen twice. We also took the Dave Ramsey course and became debt free except mortgage now we’re chiseling away at that. You’re wise beyond your years! Thank you for encouraging others and for living by example! You had me in hysterics laughing about cutting hair. I cut my mother's hair once she looked like a boy -short back and sides! And I cut my son's hair once also . Notice I say once. Anyway my son's hair was lopsided as the my son moved when the dog licked him. From then on my son went to the barbers and my mother made other arrangements!!

I have six children, 5 of which love to craft. I use to buy thrifted crafts just because they are cheap. I realized I was just cutting things because they were cheap without thinking what projects could be made from them
We had so many craft supplies that were rarely used. It took up so much space and stressed me out so much. Though I buy used a lot for other things, but not often for crafts. Buying then at the store actually saves me money.
Another thing I do is I have a designated place for crafts. All crafts must fit there or we can't buy more.

I buy most of my clothes second hand too! I highly recommend buying and selling on Poshmark or ThredUP. You can sell your old clothes (you’ll make more on Poshmark, but you have to do all the work yourself) and then I use my sold credits to buy new clothes when I need them. Plus, you can invest in higher quality brands that will last longer than fast fashion but pay that second-hand price.

I actually don't have a lot of parties, in fact I am not sure if I have ever had one? For birthdays we usually just invide family and cousins, I make the cake and food and we celebrate with simple decor!

I am learning to be very frugal it is a hard lesson to learn when your not used to it on some things i have always been frugal in a lot of ways but We have decided to sell our home which was a very hard decision to move into 1/2 of the size and we are living in now. we will remodelling the other home because it needs it badly it was a rental house and then we will be pretty much debt free very hard decision to make but we are 50 and 54 we have decided it would Be best for us Even though the home is a little bit smaller we will be going down from 2500² feeds to 1250² Square feet is going to be hard we are downsizing at lots But i know I can do all times through Christ Jesus which strengthen And we will not have a $1300 months house payment And thank God we got full asking price Sewed to the 2nd person that looked at it Look at all my saturdy bought it on Monday Pay a 100000 down on it for earnest moneyI know that was God I had prayed about it

Great video and excellent values. I'm curious, are you homeschooling due to the pandemic, or for other reasons? As a retired teacher, I want to kindly point out a few thoughts as to why it is good for children to be in school. It allows them to socialize beyond their own family. It fosters acceptance of diversity when a classroom has people with a variety of nationalities, religions, income levels etc. A school has a library, gym, music room, computer and science labs, etc. that the average home cannot supply. Also your children will develop more independence going off to school. When they come home, the stories of what they did can be shared. If everyone stays at home, then everyone has similar experiences. Children need to go out into a wider world.

Loved this post. Always have been frugal. Funny when we were all on shutdown my sistercwho is a shopaholoc asked how I always have a fresh new decor. I laughed and said "I shop my house" . she started doing it and said she does not know why she never thought of that before.
