Is a WiFi card worth it in 2023? | TP-Link Archer TX55E

- Recently switched wifi providers for a faster internet connection. I noticed that the motherboard wifi isn't reaching anywhere near the rated speeds I was paying for. So after a little bit of research I decided on purchasing this wifi card. The installation process was pretty easy as long as you make sure to plug in the bluetooth cable in advance! You will also need to have an internet connection to install wifi and bluetooth drivers! My download speeds went from 230 gb/per second to 510 gb/per second! I was really impressed with the performance because of how far I am from my router. (My router is located upstairs and my computer is downstairs, there are also a couple of walls in between me and the router.) When testing near the router I got about 590ish gb/per second which was really close to my ethernet speed! My ethernet speed is 600 gb/per second which is really impressive! I also found myself using the bluetooth for my JBL speaker as well as my xbox controller to play games with no noticeable delay. Very impressed with the performance given its price! I really like having the flexibility of being able to have my computer anywhere in my house with a reliable connection without having to run an ethernet throughout the house.

- Will need internet to install wifi card drivers
- Installing the bluetooth cable may be difficult for those who are unfamiliar with computers

Very fair price for a reliable wifi/bluetooth card! Adds flexibility to location of system as well as adding value to older systems!

You don’t need to need connection to set up. Just connect it then wit 10-15 minutes and reset pc. It will automatically switch and show Wi-Fi networks

I get about 592 download & 10 upload on ethernet, this is about the max speed for my current plan. Right now from where my current setup is i get about 540 download & 10 upload. The less obstructions and less space between the system and the wifi router the closer youll get to ethernet performance.
What's the usb cable used for?
It's a cable that connects to a USB Header on the motherboard. It's for the bluetooth capability.
guys, if you don't have a way to connect your PC to internet and you don't know how to install the drivers, you can use USB tethering by simply connecting your phone to the computer with a USB cable 😉

@@jvnahx8646Yeah, but you're just installing drivers, not gaming. Even if your phone only has a 3G connection, it won't take long to download drivers.

Thanks for saying that, I'm trying to work on my content quality, so I get bummed out if my footage is a little dark or grainy. As for the white creeper, I bought it at a local Walmart. It came in a Minecraft chest saying something like "Minecraft Mini-Figures." They have a bunch of different characters and mobs. I just so happened to get a white creeper. You can buy the figure directly from eBay if you're interested.

How well does it work?
6:20 i bet there was a CD with drivers and stuff, but 99 % ofpcs built nowadays dont have a dvd drive. I still have a dvd drive because i have a habit of listening to music CDs on my pc, so i got myself Fractal design pop air, which has a slot for a dvd drive 😊.
Yeah there was a cd with what i assume would be the drivers, but as you said, most modern computer don't have a cd reader. Would probably be better for them to include a cheap flashdrive with drivers.
@@theavidconsumerIncluding a flash drive with drivers is such a good idea, I'm shocked it isn't already being done. My guess is they don't want to spend that extra dollar or two per unit. It adds up. After all, you can just get all your drivers online.
On your argument for the reasons people would want something like this is that the motherboard that i bought didn't natively have wifi or at least I'm not sure how to get to it and we plan on switching to a purely wifi router instead of ethernet i needed something to work with it.

Seriously, why the manufacturer does not include a usb flash drive with the drivers is beyond me. Flash drives are less than $2 in bulk. Just bite the bullet and throw them in the box.
They do include a disk with drivers, but I think the reason they don't include a flash drive is because they expect everyone to have access to a network in today's world.

The pc doesn't need Internet to download the driver...u just a way to download it n transfer it to the PC...wut I did was downloaded the file on my phone...plugged my phone to my pc n used file explorer to get the file n downloaded the driver
Yes, this is another method. I've had to do it before for a client who had no internet.
Have fiber internet but my pc uses a garbage USB adapter, my download speed was 50 on that same speed test. I was that one friend that could never play a game due to it having a 2 gigabyte download.
Yes! I was like that too, before I switched internet providers! Highly recommend this WiFI card if you plan on getting the most of your internet!

Definitely picking one of these up. Trying to install ethernet in a Victorian attached property with solid brickwork is not worth the money and effort when I could do a Wi-Fi setup. and dragging a Cat cable throughout the house is not nice to look at lmao.
im hesitating to get it or not my motherboard's wifi signal is insanely good, i literally play video games on it with no problem until the thing that holds the antennas becomes clunky again. i cant have a stable internet when that happens. is this a good replacement?
Try tape to hold the antenna in place if you don't want to spend the money, but if you are willing to, this Wi-Fi card is perfect! It will definitely perform better than onboard Wi-Fi.

@@oniidante I'd say the effective range is about 15-20ft for WiFi (expect advertised network speeds in this range) it can be much more such as 30-50ft if you don't have many walls or floors between the system and the router (but expect slower speeds).

Good video I have this same one. i have never connected the blu tooth I didn't realize it was the separate cable I thought it allworked whn plugged into the slot. (stupid me :) ) so now I am going to open PC up and plug it in and see how blutooth works :).
P.S I thought when you shown the speed of ethernet you would compare it at the end with the wifi card and show the results for both.
I got about 60ish less download speed using the wifi card vs ethernet. Distance is really the determining factor as well as obstructions. You are right though, I will be sure to include a side-by-side comparison in future videos.
They supplied a CD with the drivers at the bottom of the box. You have to read the manual to realize that. I bought this one for my wireless headphones and my generic gaming controller. So my Sony ear buds working great with Windows 10 minus the latency of the audio which is ok cause I'm only listening to music or TH-cam. My gaming controller is working well but Cyberpunk will not work with the controller on Bluetooth but only connected to cable. Perhaps CDPR did that on purpose to avoid the latency.
So the Bluetooth connects over USB? I thought it connects via PCI-E, good to know what the USB header plug does in these types of wireless cards.

I have poor ubs ports after years of use. i have a usb adapter that sucks ass now constantly dissconnecting unlike my laptop. So i think I'm gonna try this out when i move to ohio......because so far it sounds as though were gonna have slower internet over there.

It was worth it for me when i moved into apartment instead of paying the ISP tech some ridiculous price to switch the coax i just bought a 40$ wifi card, you can also get a mesh hub instead but more pricy

I bought this one. It's a little on the pricier side but it comes with a larger battery capacity. You can definitely find cheaper ones but I really like the one I bought. Can be used as a vacuum too!

You don't have to have internet to get them installed. That's what the disk is for. Or, as suggested in the directions, you can copy the install info on a USB.
Yeah, I'm aware, though not everyone may have a disk reader though since newer desktops/laptops are excluding disk drives.

Did you try reinstalling drivers? Could also be the distance of the system from the router? Are the antennas in the right position?
As you said you need to wait 10-15 minutes then reset your wifi to make it work right? and also wdym about reset? you mean restart?
I'm sure they mean restart. If not you can always install the drivers.

im using this adapter with isp unifi 300mbps.. but it seem my speedtest reaching at 200mbps.. after seeing this video you can reach to 500 like no problem.. so it is not the adapter speed limit... what is wrong with my adapter?
Check with your Internet Provider. Ask what speeds you are currently paying for. If you are only paying for a 200mbps plan you'll most likely max out at 200. This likely isn't an adaptor issue.

How stable the connection is? Especially the WiFi. I experienced inconsistent connectivity with some products.
Really depends on distance from the router and obstacles in-between. If you are referring to stability in terms of retaining a connection not regarding speed. I've never had it disconnect being about 2 rooms and a floor below away, with a couple of walls between. Speed was significantly lower but never had connection issues.

I bought the Koonie 15000mAh Cordless Air Duster & Vacuum 2 in 1. It can be found on amazon for $89.99. Really expensive in my opinion, but I've used the sub $30-$50 dollar electric air dusters and they do the job just fine. I I bought it for the large battery capacity, I don't really have to charge it that much compared to others.

Is it better than Asus PCI-E AX3000 wifi 6?? The difference I see is TX55E's bluetooth version is 5.2, when Asus's version is 5.0
Did some research. Only thing I noted was they have different Bluetooth versions. In terms of speed they should perform the same under the same network conditions. I say buy whichever is cheaper for you.

in a pinch you can download the drivers on your phone and then transfer the files to your PC. i've had to do that when setting up wifi cards for family in the past

No, it does exactly what it says. Has great speeds and makes running a wireless system more reliable. If possible, I recommend having as little obstructions as possible, avoid walls and large appliances.

Yes the motherboard in the video is an ATX motherboard. You can still use the wifi card in a regular size pcie slot.

You could already be reaching the maximum speeds provided by your Internet Provider. If you are already reaching the maximum speeds, you don't need to upgrade. Unless you wanted to upgrade to a wifi card for distance & Bluetooth purposes.

Lol, yeah, unfortunately, they only had the soundcard I wanted in black; they did have a white lower-end model, but I opted for the Soundblaster AE-7. It is a great purchase, makes music really pop, and footsteps & key sounds are easily heard when playing First-Person-Shooters!

Hey buddy I wanna ask something is the Bluetooth working fine & what's it's range as i was thinking of connecting Bluetooth controller for casual gaming
It works up to about 18-20ft reliably. (Can get up to 10m or 32ft and still have bluetooth connection) Haven't really had a need to go further than 20ft, used this card in my living room pc to play Skyrim from the couch via Bluetooth. I imagine you want to do the same. If that's the case I'd highly recommend!

My desktop already has bt5.0 and wifi, but I want to upgrade to this card, hoping to get better connectivity for bt devices and maybe better range on the wifi. Do I need to disable the installed software in device management or something or will the software download do all that? Also, how do I do that?
It will default to the wifi card once drivers are installed. I myself have built-in Bluetooth and wifi and it still default to the wifi card

It should go into a USB Header. You can search it up online or on your motherboard manual

Yes, it will work. You will need to make sure you have a pcie slot available. When installing, make sure to leave ethernet cable plugged in in order to download and install the wifi card drivers. Once you've done that, you should be good to go! No more cable!
Can I use this card with Gigabyte Aorus Pro V2 motherboard?
Yes, this will work with that motherboard; just make sure the system has an extra PCI-E Slot available for the Wi-Fi card to occupy.

what is the difference between this card and archer TX50E?
The TX50E is older and the physical size is slightly larger. As for price I'm not sure why the TX50E is more expensive when the TX55E performs better. The TX50E uses Bluetooth 5.0 while the TX55E uses Bluetooth 5.2.
Damn, I've just gone from 45mbps ethernet down to 21mbps using this same card.

@@theavidconsumer Did some experimenting and its the corner of the house I'm in is a virtual deadspot for wifi. As soon as I set it up in any other room the speed matches my ethernet levels.

It should be compatible with both AMD & Intel platforms. As long as you have a PCIE Slot, you should be fine.
i got that card and on my wifi 6 network the download and upload is 45/45mbps when i pay for gigabit. im on the 5g band and itshowsa send/receive of 1000/1000. i expectat least 150-200 over wifi but im not even getting that.and i got both antennas on. can u help?
edit: mines the tx50e but it installs and looks alot like yours.
My recommendation would be to go to the tp-link website and search for drivers regarding that specific model. Install the most recent drivers and see if the speed has improved. If not is there any obstructions between your computer and router?
@theavidconsumer I did that and it didn't work, but I messed around for a bit after uninstlaling the drivers completed and it works fines now. Been dealing with this since I got it and idk why it works now lmao
@@tubelesstrippin yes, Uninstalling drivers can work too, it will basically have the computer reinstall drivers again which sometimes fixes the problem. Glad you got it figured out!
Does the CD include all of the drivers needed for the computer to see and use the Wi-Fi card? I am thinking of getting one of these.
It will include the basic drivers to get the wifi card up & working. If possible, I recommend updating the drivers to the most recent or installing drivers directly from their website .

Did you connect the USB Cable to a USB Header? If you did, try installing the Bluetooth drivers from the website.

It is a rechargeable electric air duster and vacuum in one! A little on the pricey side but it has suited my use case well. If you want to pay once and never again I highly recommend it! 👍👍👍
Though you can definitely find something cheaper but ultimately up to you!

Can be found on the TP-Link website by searching for the specific model, you will find the wifi drivers aswell as the bluetooth drivers.

hey great video! Just wanted to ask does it work same as onboarf mobo wifi and is it better than usb dongels for gaming. I think the usb ones may get ping spikes while gaming although I could be wrong.
Yes, it will replace your on-board wifi. A dedicated wifi card will perform a lot better than on-board. More reliable & steady connection.

It is an electric duster that I bought on amazon. There are cheaper options than the one I listed, but the one in the video is a great, long-lasting option. Battery life is excellent for the duration of use! Though, I think you could get away with using a cheaper option!

How is it with the controller stability
Currently using an Xbox One Series X Controller and I don't notice any delays or lag in-game. Plays as if it were connected to the computer by cable. No distinguishable difference to me.
Also makes gaming an enjoyable experience on my living room pc to play Skyrim from the couch.

@@theavidconsumer I installed the wifi card but when i check device manager the name is shown like ax210 160MHz i updated driver automaticaly and manually but still same

No I did not. I didn't notice any lagspikes or stutters due to wifi connection. I think it really depends on how stable your router/wifi speeds are. For the most part I haven't had any issues with Bluetooth or wifi when playing games like Fortnite & Call Of Duty, it has all ran smoothly! 👍

@@_bleufort_4715Router is upstairs but if it were on the same level it is about 18 to 20ish ft away. Highly recommend having as little obstructions as you can between you and the router as well as having the antennas face the router for best performance. I saw a significant drop in wifi speeds when antennas where facing away.

Should work with any motherboard that isn't from the dinosaur era, if your system runs windows 10 or 11 you should be good to go!
