Totally correct. As a sketcher with fountain pens I have settled on the TWSBI brand and have 5 ECO’s in different colours to match the inks. As you say they have great capacity and never seem to dry out so now I no longer need to keep experimenting and buying other makes, I’m totally happy with TWSBI but now I’d like to try the pen you’re recommending.
Lovely pens. With stub nibs, you need to keep the full edge in contact with the paper for ink to flow. It's easy to rotate slightly with the direction changes of writing. It helps to hold the pen as lightly as you can so that it can level itself out.
Ahhh! You two. I’m a huge TWSBI girl. I have 40 fountain pens and am just in love with TWSBI. I have the mini versions as well and I truly love all my pens. I’ve stopped buying pens and ink. I have enough ink to last a least 5 years. Be careful when you close the top when twisting to fill your pens. Dont wind too tight or it will crack. Enjoy your pens. When holding the stub nibs lay them flat.

My ink collection consist of Monteverde, Diamine, Pilot, Noodlers, Roher & Klinggner, Jacques Herbin, Birmingham and Lamy in bottles and a lot of different samples for many companies. I kid you not it should last a few years.
Lets be honest here, you got a pile of cracking plastic. Twsbi is overpriced chinesium, the only good thing is the jowo nib as its standard. For all that money you could have bought real japanese Pilot/platinum/Sailor fountain pen
The TWSBI 580 is so beginner friendly, but also so high performing for a regular fp user as well. I love my TWSBI 580 Rose GOld so much that I sold all my Kaweco and Sailor fountain pens. *sshhhh*
I flushed my twsbi vac700R Iris and went through the standard blue inks from last years Diamond inkvent to find something without shimmer that might be fun. I selected Thunderbolt. It looks awesome in the clear body and complements the colorful nib gradient. This pen writes like a dream - I see why people are so excited about TWSBI brand. I will ink my 580 next to compare the writing experience in the smaller body style.
Agreed! TWSBIS are arguably the best bang for your buck Fountain Pen: Consistent, writes beautifully and well, solid made, and so many options to suit your taste!
After a lot of thinking this is my personal rule concerning colors: demonstrator pens can take any color, black ink can go in any pen, all the others must be matched! This has kept me from going crazy looking for the perfect couple ahah
I love how easy it is to swap the screw in nib units on the Diamond 580s too!!! I purchased clear AL and the Rose in the 580. Then I was gifted a purple one year and my Christmas gift from my husband this year is the Diamond 580 Iris .. it's wrapped up ... is it Christmas yet!? LOL They are such beautiful pens ... I have to write slower with them than I do with the Ecos contoured grip ... but I do love them!!! Stubs are not my favorite TWSBI nibs but I know they do better for me with the Pilot inks ... ! It is awesome that if you get a 580 or a mini in a nib that isn't your favorite size you can just swap the nib unit!!!!
Yes, you're right! The nibs are interchangeable. For me, that may be kinda of funny as I have 2 rose gold nibs and the purple iris. Would look a little odd with this silver...but certainly fun and quirky. I'm like you, Chris. Still waiting to use the Iris! Haha! Time to choose the ink to go with it! Have one in mind?
My ECO is my preferred pen, hands down, despite having many more pens and expensive ones. Now about the skipping you experienced, it can come from many things (in my experience): - paper / ink combinaison, I know some of my inks will not work in some notebooks, you might have a better result with a different paper. - sweat/oil from your hand on the paper; it's a nightmare, my fingers/hands are somewhat naturally oily, and on any paper, I'll have troubles or bad start with many pens/inks. - some inks are not as "flowy" as others, a well behaved ink will work in any pen (like iroshizuku), but I have some waterman inks that I don't like because they feel too "solid". - of course, the angle of the stub on the paper will have an impact on the performance of the pen, it might be something to get used to.
TWSBI nibs write a bit on the dry side, so wet inks make them write much better without skipping as much. Sailor inks have somewhat average to dry flow, so that skipping might be from the ink. Stubs use a lot more ink, too, so the feed either may not be able to keep up with sending ink to the nib if the ink flows on the dry side, or as others said, there may be things slowing the feed from sending a lot of ink to the nib, thus causing the skipping. My favorite FP is Sailor pro gear slims! But for beginners, the TWSBI Eco I find is more user and beginner friendly.
Ahh, yes. I have noticed that. Sailor inks come out drier, especially compared to the Noodler's Ink. I'll see if switching my ink helps. Appreciate the help and suggestions. Thank you!

I am fortunate enough over the years to have amassed a reasonable collection of fountain pens from limited edition multi-thousand dollar pens to more humble vintage pens and they all bring different experiences to writing which is why I love them all, this December I purchased my first Twsbi after many years reading the reviews ( I’m never one to immediately jump on hype trains!), the Vac 700r. I am so impressed with it! I have the fine nib, it did, like many much more expensive fine nibs need a little smoothing with the brown paper trick and finishing with the polishing part of those four in one nail buffer things you get but after that it has become one of the best writers I have regardless of price! With the skipping I think you might find it worth experimenting with the angle you write at with the nib. In my experience with stub nibs they have one sweet spot, once you find it you should have no problems. You could also gently polish the sharp edges of the stub as the can catch a little at first causing skipping. The simplest way is simply do figure of eights on some brown parcel paper until you feel it getting smoother. Your not decreasing the edge just smoothing it. The other thing with brand new pens is to make sure you flush them well a few times in warm soapy detergent water and rinse thoroughly, this helps with any potential contamination from the manufacturing process such as tiny amounts of release agents used to free parts from the dies and tools. If you like blue ink I can highly recommend Pelicans Edelstein Topaz, one of the most beautiful blues I have ever used and with that stub, has wonderful shading, heck, with the fine on the Twsbi it still has!
I have the same skipping issue with the 580 stub nib. In terms of stub nibs, I prefer Lamy, which I have in 1.1 and 1.5. I have never encountered skipping with those, even when using dry or shimmer inks.
You have a really pleasant voice, and I was charmed that you gendered your favorite pen in this video. I have a very wide range of fountain pen$, but as a journalist, my dependable daily is a TWSBI ECO Rose Gold (medium nib).
I have many, many pens. I love all of them for different reasons. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be my TWSBI Eco in transparent blue with a medium nib. Number two would be my Pilot Custom 823 in amber with a medium nib.
My favorite twsbi is the pocket one. It feels great in the hand, it’s the simple classic black demonstrator, has a function for the cap while writing (makes the pen workable, and evens the weight just right) and as a pocket pen it’s easier to, well, keep in your pocket. I love my 580 as well, and i found that the vac stub nib is the smoothest stub nib i have ever experienced. And all of them are SUPER reliable. Never had a hard start with a twsbi pen, besides my swipe, but I feel that almost a completely different design then a twsbi anyway, and I suspect that is a defect pen that I bought. True to form it’s so cheap that I feel I can’t be bothered to do anything about it. So even the one bad pen experience from twsbi is hardly a really a bad experience. It’s low risk, high reward buying a twsbi.
Can’t go wrong with TWSBI, I have the Eco with a a 1.1 stub. Yeah it might take a little practice or getting used to holding the end flat to get that variation. Their piston filling system they have work great. I inked mine months ago and it’s still full! But I use it only when I feel like breaking out the stub nib.
I have many TWSBI pens in various models. They’re my favorite….workhorse pens. I must get a couple of mini 580, especially the clear one you’re showing. 95% of my fountain pens have medium and stub nibs because I have large handwriting. I have close to 30 pens. My favs are my TWSBIs, Pilot E95s and Pilot Vanishing Point. Thanks for sharing and I enjoy watching your videos.

I agree that the Pilot E95s is a great pen along with my Packer Sonnet. I wonder if it's because they both have gold nibs. I have not purchased a Twsbi yet, but I was considering the 580 in Black with rose gold. I love stub nibs and was sorry to hear that Seaweed Kisses is having trouble with hers. She should contact the seller for help with her nib.
I'm a big Twsbi fan. I am a fountain pen lover in general with about 60 pens collected since I was a teenager. (I'm 62). I love the stub nib. I have it on my twsbi vac 700 and one of my twsbi minis. I've never had trouble with my stubs skipping so I'm not sure what that is about.
I reckon I could get by with just my TWSBI Vac-700R;the broad nib is nice and wet/smooth;really shows off properties of each ink. Thankfully I don't have to do that;hopefully neither do you. I love all the TWSBIs ie. GO, ECO-T, Diamond 580, SWIPE, Vac-700R. I also have the TWSBI ink bottle and PIPE to make life easier and more fun. It's pretty easy to swap nibs on TWSBIs;that's a whole 'nother rabbit-hole. Was glad to hear you mention "JOT" (made in India) paper. I buy it at the Dollar store. For me,it is surprisingly good. I get the composition notebooks and the spiral A5 size too. Cheap enough that you don't have to worry about using too much. I have heaps of this paper! One A5 size JOT notebook lasts me about 2 weeks on average. IIRC it's $1.25/notebook at my Dollar Store. AND, I do really appreciate the expensive Japanese paper for a change of pace.
The TWSBI 580 is my favorite pen. I have two of them. I would love to have the Smoke Rose Gold model and the White Rose Gold model. I currently have the Navy Blue model and the Nickel Gray model, both of which have medium nibs.
You inked it up right after opening, you should always flush new pens with warm water then let them air dry before inking up for the first time. There can be debris or oils from the manufacturing process in the feed. Also with a stub you need to be careful not to rotate the nib as you write. The stub needs to always be flat against the page.

I would suggest a little dish washing detergent in distilled water to flush the pen then straight distilled water. Tap water can have a lot of minerals (hard water) in it. It could possibly clog it up since you let them air dry you could end up with buildup. Never use hot water or heat on your fountain! That would be asking for trouble on some pens.
My first TWSBI was the rose gold diamond mini and M nib and I loved it so much. My current fave in the TWSBI Eco but I think I’ll have to get the 580 too now 😂 I also love the F nib. But I think I’d love to try a gold nib next time 😊

I do have the special addition Kaweco Hello Kitty Special Addition Pink pen that I haven't used much but would love to start using it after the holidays as I get motivated to start journaling.

Yes! Ever since using the TWSBI, I've sold so many of my others. You're right - These pens always work! It could be days or weeks that pass, and the pen will still write so smooth without any hesitation!
I recently ordered that same Galen Leather pouch! ❤😊 And yeah, I fell down the 🐇 hole too.😅 I have a Twsbi that has a fine nib and one that has a stub nib. I’ve noticed the same problem, the stub nib skips sometimes when I write with it.
The Galen Pen Pouch is so neat, right! Okay, glad I'm not the only one experiencing the sub nib skipping. It's so odd as I've never experienced this with my other TWSBI pens with diff. nib sizes. The stub nib on my Lamy Al Star out performs the stub nib on my new Eco by a country mile. This is unfortunate as the ef in my other Eco has been terrific. I will be buying a fine to replace the stub. When I finally get a 580, I don't think I would risk purchasing it with a stub.

I have a Wing Sung 3008 piston filler fountain pen. $6 well spent. I swapped the nib for a Lamy Safari 1.1 stub nib. The nib was $12. So I am spent out but very happy.
Love the 580. I do have the same skipping issues with the stub nib, regardless of paper. It’s hard to hold it at the perfect angle. The eco stub writes great though!
From my experience, the nibs are shaped differently for writing left to right or from right to left. The nib you tested might be for writing from right to left.
A Twisb Swipe is good so is a Twisbi Go which can be dropped and still write or maybe a Platinum’s Preppy as they aren’t that expensive now. Just be sure to pick a fine or extra fine nib as they can be used with most paper stock with little or no ghosting.

Love my TWSBI 580, but also not content with just one pen and it's fun to have a variety. I would recommend looking into some of the Chinese brands that imitate some of the higher end pens. For example a Majohn A1 vs a Pilot Vanishing point, or a Jinhao 80 vs a LAMY 2000.
I'm team Diamond 580 with a Prussian Blue and just picked up a Grape Mini. I have a few Ecos too, but I could pass them on. The 580 and Mini won't be going anywhere!
I always recommend the fine...but then again my handwriting is a little larger. Friends with smaller handwriting prefer the Extra Fine. In my experience, ink brands affect how "juicy" the nib performs as well. Sailor inks tend to come out a little "drier" with my TWSBI nibs, but Noodler's ink come out very wet, even with Fine or Extra Fine.

I bought the 580 diamond because of you. I always use a Stub nib. When I first got the pen, it was really skipping so I called and Twisby sent me a new stab nib. A new one doesn’t skip as bad, but I have not experienced that on my other ego Twisby’s with stub nibs Weird. Anyway, I might try a medium dip with it. The stub skipping might have to do with the way we hold the pen.
The 580 Diamond is such a beauty! Yes, you may be right. The stub nib could be the way we're holding it...Hmmm. So odd as I've never experienced TWSBI nibs skipping before this one. I'll clean it out and see it that'll help. But, I'm back to my "Fine" nib Rose Gold. She never fails me.😅😂
I'm exprencing the same with other stub nibs. Try to rotate your pen just a tiny bit. This needs a litle pactice. Don't give up. When you got it, it's beautiful.
Growing up in Germany my first Fountain Pen was the ABC-Schreiblernfüller from Lamy, after that in like 5th grade I got the Lamy Safari, then when Work started the Lamy AL-Star. Between the Safari and AL-Star I tried some other Brands like Pelikan, Level, Online, but I always went back to Lamy. 2016 when I started journaling I discovered Kaweco and the Pilot Kaküno (loved the Kaküno, hated the Kaweco), but after finding out that piston fillers existed I wanted one. This year I finally got myself a TWSBI Eco, cause I love all things that glow in the dark. I thought „worst case I can put it on display if it writes as bad as the Kawecos“. It writes AWESOME! So smooth, almost never skips, filling is easy, this is my one Pen. Even played with the thought of selling my Lamys xD
Yes! They write so SMOOTH! Now I see why everyone loves them so much! Haha, funny you mention selling your Lamys. That's exactly what I did. Sold all the Kawecos and Lamys I had! hahaha. No regrets.
The Black Rose TWSBI is in Fine, the Silver Clear one is Stub 1.1, the Glow Green in Extra Fine, and the Mini White Rose Gold is Medium. The Fine TWSBI nib is my current favorite out of them all.
Stubs are challenges you must remember that you must make sure the tines are touching the paper this is common. Also it’s wise to flush the pen before using……. Manufacturing particles….
Could be that the feed isn't sufficient to drive the amount of ink that a stub produces. If the feed is the same as the fine nib version then that could be the issue.
I own a couple TWSB stubs and never had a problem, but I remembered seeing Inky Rock‘s HaHa review and she talks about her problems with that ink. I put my HaHa in a very wet Pelican M. Check out Inky Rocks Video.
I’ve started my fountain pen journey fairly recently. I’ve always liked them and found them interesting, and have owned one or two in the distant past, but really began to get serious a few months ago. My wife gave me a Lamy Studio that I began using a lot and spent time practising my handwriting with it. I then discovered the fountain pen online community and became addicted to these fountain pen TH-cam videos. I have since bought 3 more pens, one of which is the Twsbi Eco. I love that pen! I thought I would use my Lamy for “special” writing and use the Twsbi for more mundane writing tasks, but I find myself really drawn to the Twsbi for all writing experiences. I have not seen the 580, but might check it out. Thanks for this.
I'll give you some the best advise I can. It's fun to get a new pen. Enjoy them! That's it! Seriously though. Be patient. It's nice to get a pen, and really we have to try to find out what we like. But I'd say define a set of parameters and buy within them, unless it's really unique. And like anything be disciplined. I say this not to curb your enthusiasm, but to avoid potential regret or guilt. At first we buy, buy, buy. We all know it's completely irrational. After a while we figure out what we like, but by that time we have so many pens, that we feel guilty buying "just one more pen for the month." The guilt wears off quickly, but that won't stop it from coming back at times. i have found newbies start with fine nibs, and thinner sections, only to learn they like thicker sections and broader, stub nibs, but by that time they have pen cases full of pens. So really scrutinize what you like in a pen, especially the pen dimensions because comfort lies in the dimensions. You can always customize a nib, but not the pen body. And finally always have a bottle of Waterman Serenity Blue. It is the ink of inks.
The only thing with my TWSBI pens is that they never dry inside so I have to keep them inked all the time. I’ve been warned against taking them apart. Any tips?

I thought that’s because you are too excited use your new pen:) When you got a new fp, the first thing is wash it. It will remove dust and oil from the product process. 😊
Yep! I always do this, as my first fountain pan didn't write at all until I'd washed it really thoroughly. Also I think a stub is going to be more sensitive to angle, so takes time to get used to
@@SeaweedKisses understandably so. But you put the nib in the whole ink bottle without flushing it first so any product process stuff got into the whole ink bottle now. Always better to flush the new pen, out of the package,first before inking it up.
dont really like my twisbi because it sometimes skips! and i have it in M nib. not sure whats the problem is.. platinum preppy is tenth the price but never dissapoints.

What’s the name of that case? where can I get it from. Also stubs take a little breaking in to get your hand and way of writing. This is why I never give my top 5 favourite pens to anyone for too long because the nib starts to write a certain way specifically in your hand and it will take a while to adjust back to it…

Hmm, perhaps try an extra fine or fine nib. Ink matters along with the type of paper you use. You may want to look into a good notebook that requires little dry time for the wet inks.

I heard so many great things about TWSBI i got an Eco, but it skips allll the time, like every 3 words. I've cleaned it out multiple times and tried different inks and it's just not working for me :(
I have 6 TWSBI ECOs & ECO-Ts (F & M nibs) and have never had any issues with the nib skipping. I second contacting the company to see if they can help you. I hope you can get it sorted out, they and the Kaweco AL Sport are my 2 go-to FPs.
Funny you should mention that. I actually had one (brand new) that I recently sold as I decided on the 580 Iris instead. Do you like it better than a 580 Diamond?
Hey, that was a great video. I love the 580's too, but the Ecos are my favorites. The 580's are a close second, though. Ecos are what I give to people first starting out with fountain pens. The stub nibs can't really be rotated in the hand the way that other nib sizes can and still write. And some ink just doesn't work great in some pens. The stubs can feel less smooth because, as I understand it, they often don't have tipping on the. However, with broader nib sizes, sometimes they can skip due to overpolishing, which is called "baby's bottom". However, with all of that said, I have a bunch of TWSBI's (they're my favorite brand) and they really shouldn't skip, regardless of nib size. Really, no fountain pen should, but TWSBI tends to have really good quality control. So make sure it's not rotating as you write, try different ink and different paper, but if it still skips, contact the retailer. From the video, it looked like it actually was skipping.

I love how easy it is to swap the screw in nib units on the Diamond 580s too!!! I purchased clear AL and the Rose in the 580. Then I was gifted a purple one year and my Christmas gift from my husband this year is the Diamond 580 Iris .. it's wrapped up ... is it Christmas yet!? LOL They are such beautiful pens ... I have to write slower with them than I do with the Ecos contoured grip ... but I do love them!!! Stubs are not my favorite TWSBI nibs but I know they do better for me with the Pilot inks ... ! It is awesome that if you get a 580 or a mini in a nib that isn't your favorite size you can just swap the nib unit!!!!
Yes, you're right! The nibs are interchangeable. For me, that may be kinda of funny as I have 2 rose gold nibs and the purple iris. Would look a little odd with this silver...but certainly fun and quirky. I'm like you, Chris. Still waiting to use the Iris! Haha! Time to choose the ink to go with it! Have one in mind?
My ECO is my preferred pen, hands down, despite having many more pens and expensive ones.
Now about the skipping you experienced, it can come from many things (in my experience):
- paper / ink combinaison, I know some of my inks will not work in some notebooks, you might have a better result with a different paper.
- sweat/oil from your hand on the paper; it's a nightmare, my fingers/hands are somewhat naturally oily, and on any paper, I'll have troubles or bad start with many pens/inks.
- some inks are not as "flowy" as others, a well behaved ink will work in any pen (like iroshizuku), but I have some waterman inks that I don't like because they feel too "solid".
- of course, the angle of the stub on the paper will have an impact on the performance of the pen, it might be something to get used to.
I love my TWSBI Diamond mini. Now you have me wanting that Smoke and rose gold version! Gorgeous. Fun video :)
TWSBI nibs write a bit on the dry side, so wet inks make them write much better without skipping as much. Sailor inks have somewhat average to dry flow, so that skipping might be from the ink. Stubs use a lot more ink, too, so the feed either may not be able to keep up with sending ink to the nib if the ink flows on the dry side, or as others said, there may be things slowing the feed from sending a lot of ink to the nib, thus causing the skipping. My favorite FP is Sailor pro gear slims! But for beginners, the TWSBI Eco I find is more user and beginner friendly.
Ahh, yes. I have noticed that. Sailor inks come out drier, especially compared to the Noodler's Ink. I'll see if switching my ink helps. Appreciate the help and suggestions. Thank you!

Lovely video and subscribed! I am fortunate enough over the years to have amassed a reasonable collection of fountain pens from limited edition multi-thousand dollar pens to more humble vintage pens and they all bring different experiences to writing which is why I love them all, this December I purchased my first Twsbi after many years reading the reviews ( I’m never one to immediately jump on hype trains!), the Vac 700r.
I am so impressed with it! I have the fine nib, it did, like many much more expensive fine nibs need a little smoothing with the brown paper trick and finishing with the polishing part of those four in one nail buffer things you get but after that it has become one of the best writers I have regardless of price!
With the skipping I think you might find it worth experimenting with the angle you write at with the nib. In my experience with stub nibs they have one sweet spot, once you find it you should have no problems. You could also gently polish the sharp edges of the stub as the can catch a little at first causing skipping. The simplest way is simply do figure of eights on some brown parcel paper until you feel it getting smoother. Your not decreasing the edge just smoothing it.
The other thing with brand new pens is to make sure you flush them well a few times in warm soapy detergent water and rinse thoroughly, this helps with any potential contamination from the manufacturing process such as tiny amounts of release agents used to free parts from the dies and tools.
If you like blue ink I can highly recommend Pelicans Edelstein Topaz, one of the most beautiful blues I have ever used and with that stub, has wonderful shading, heck, with the fine on the Twsbi it still has!
I have the same skipping issue with the 580 stub nib. In terms of stub nibs, I prefer Lamy, which I have in 1.1 and 1.5. I have never encountered skipping with those, even when using dry or shimmer inks.
You have a really pleasant voice, and I was charmed that you gendered your favorite pen in this video. I have a very wide range of fountain pen$, but as a journalist, my dependable daily is a TWSBI ECO Rose Gold (medium nib).

I have many, many pens. I love all of them for different reasons. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be my TWSBI Eco in transparent blue with a medium nib. Number two would be my Pilot Custom 823 in amber with a medium nib.
My favorite twsbi is the pocket one. It feels great in the hand, it’s the simple classic black demonstrator, has a function for the cap while writing (makes the pen workable, and evens the weight just right) and as a pocket pen it’s easier to, well, keep in your pocket.
I love my 580 as well, and i found that the vac stub nib is the smoothest stub nib i have ever experienced. And all of them are SUPER reliable. Never had a hard start with a twsbi pen, besides my swipe, but I feel that almost a completely different design then a twsbi anyway, and I suspect that is a defect pen that I bought. True to form it’s so cheap that I feel I can’t be bothered to do anything about it. So even the one bad pen experience from twsbi is hardly a really a bad experience.
It’s low risk, high reward buying a twsbi.
Can’t go wrong with TWSBI, I have the Eco with a a 1.1 stub. Yeah it might take a little practice or getting used to holding the end flat to get that variation. Their piston filling system they have work great. I inked mine months ago and it’s still full! But I use it only when I feel like breaking out the stub nib.
I think a quick flash will remove any possible oils remaining in the feed, that can sometimes clog it

I have many TWSBI pens in various models. They’re my favorite….workhorse pens. I must get a couple of mini 580, especially the clear one you’re showing. 95% of my fountain pens have medium and stub nibs because I have large handwriting. I have close to 30 pens. My favs are my TWSBIs, Pilot E95s and Pilot Vanishing Point. Thanks for sharing and I enjoy watching your videos.

I agree that the Pilot E95s is a great pen along with my Packer Sonnet. I wonder if it's because they both have gold nibs. I have not purchased a Twsbi yet, but I was considering the 580 in Black with rose gold. I love stub nibs and was sorry to hear that Seaweed Kisses is having trouble with hers. She should contact the seller for help with her nib.

I'm a big Twsbi fan. I am a fountain pen lover in general with about 60 pens collected since I was a teenager. (I'm 62). I love the stub nib. I have it on my twsbi vac 700 and one of my twsbi minis. I've never had trouble with my stubs skipping so I'm not sure what that is about.
I reckon I could get by with just my TWSBI Vac-700R;the broad nib is nice and wet/smooth;really shows off properties of each ink. Thankfully I don't have to do that;hopefully neither do you. I love all the TWSBIs ie. GO, ECO-T, Diamond 580, SWIPE, Vac-700R. I also have the TWSBI ink bottle and PIPE to make life easier and more fun. It's pretty easy to swap nibs on TWSBIs;that's a whole 'nother rabbit-hole.
Was glad to hear you mention "JOT" (made in India) paper. I buy it at the Dollar store. For me,it is surprisingly good. I get the composition notebooks and the spiral A5 size too. Cheap enough that you don't have to worry about using too much. I have heaps of this paper! One A5 size JOT notebook lasts me about 2 weeks on average. IIRC it's $1.25/notebook at my Dollar Store. AND, I do really appreciate the expensive Japanese paper for a change of pace.
The TWSBI 580 is my favorite pen. I have two of them. I would love to have the Smoke Rose Gold model and the White Rose Gold model. I currently have the Navy Blue model and the Nickel Gray model, both of which have medium nibs.
You inked it up right after opening, you should always flush new pens with warm water then let them air dry before inking up for the first time. There can be debris or oils from the manufacturing process in the feed.
Also with a stub you need to be careful not to rotate the nib as you write. The stub needs to always be flat against the page.

I would suggest a little dish washing detergent in distilled water to flush the pen then straight distilled water. Tap water can have a lot of minerals (hard water) in it. It could possibly clog it up since you let them air dry you could end up with buildup. Never use hot water or heat on your fountain! That would be asking for trouble on some pens.

Yes! Ever since using the TWSBI, I've sold so many of my others. You're right - These pens always work! It could be days or weeks that pass, and the pen will still write so smooth without any hesitation!

The stub nib on my Lamy Al Star out performs the stub nib on my new Eco by a country mile. This is unfortunate as the ef in my other Eco has been terrific. I will be buying a fine to replace the stub. When I finally get a 580, I don't think I would risk purchasing it with a stub.
I have 3 TWSBIs, two 580s and an Eco. They hold lots of ink and feel good. Next one I get will probably be their mini 580

From my experience, the nibs are shaped differently for writing left to right or from right to left. The nib you tested might be for writing from right to left.

Usually, skipping can be because you didn’t flush it out with water before inking it. Always flush new pens.

A Twisb Swipe is good so is a Twisbi Go which can be dropped and still write or maybe a Platinum’s Preppy as they aren’t that expensive now. Just be sure to pick a fine or extra fine nib as they can be used with most paper stock with little or no ghosting.

Love my TWSBI 580, but also not content with just one pen and it's fun to have a variety. I would recommend looking into some of the Chinese brands that imitate some of the higher end pens. For example a Majohn A1 vs a Pilot Vanishing point, or a Jinhao 80 vs a LAMY 2000.

I always recommend the fine...but then again my handwriting is a little larger. Friends with smaller handwriting prefer the Extra Fine. In my experience, ink brands affect how "juicy" the nib performs as well. Sailor inks tend to come out a little "drier" with my TWSBI nibs, but Noodler's ink come out very wet, even with Fine or Extra Fine.

I bought the 580 diamond because of you. I always use a Stub nib. When I first got the pen, it was really skipping so I called and Twisby sent me a new stab nib. A new one doesn’t skip as bad, but I have not experienced that on my other ego Twisby’s with stub nibs Weird. Anyway, I might try a medium dip with it. The stub skipping might have to do with the way we hold the pen.
The 580 Diamond is such a beauty! Yes, you may be right. The stub nib could be the way we're holding it...Hmmm. So odd as I've never experienced TWSBI nibs skipping before this one. I'll clean it out and see it that'll help. But, I'm back to my "Fine" nib Rose Gold. She never fails me.😅😂

I'm exprencing the same with other stub nibs. Try to rotate your pen just a tiny bit. This needs a litle pactice. Don't give up. When you got it, it's beautiful.

Growing up in Germany my first Fountain Pen was the ABC-Schreiblernfüller from Lamy, after that in like 5th grade I got the Lamy Safari, then when Work started the Lamy AL-Star. Between the Safari and AL-Star I tried some other Brands like Pelikan, Level, Online, but I always went back to Lamy. 2016 when I started journaling I discovered Kaweco and the Pilot Kaküno (loved the Kaküno, hated the Kaweco), but after finding out that piston fillers existed I wanted one.
This year I finally got myself a TWSBI Eco, cause I love all things that glow in the dark. I thought „worst case I can put it on display if it writes as bad as the Kawecos“.
It writes AWESOME! So smooth, almost never skips, filling is easy, this is my one Pen. Even played with the thought of selling my Lamys xD
Yes! They write so SMOOTH! Now I see why everyone loves them so much! Haha, funny you mention selling your Lamys. That's exactly what I did. Sold all the Kawecos and Lamys I had! hahaha. No regrets.

The Black Rose TWSBI is in Fine, the Silver Clear one is Stub 1.1, the Glow Green in Extra Fine, and the Mini White Rose Gold is Medium. The Fine TWSBI nib is my current favorite out of them all.

Stubs are challenges you must remember that you must make sure the tines are touching the paper this is common. Also it’s wise to flush the pen before using……. Manufacturing particles….
Could be that the feed isn't sufficient to drive the amount of ink that a stub produces. If the feed is the same as the fine nib version then that could be the issue.
I own a couple TWSB stubs and never had a problem, but I remembered seeing Inky Rock‘s HaHa review and she talks about her problems with that ink. I put my HaHa in a very wet Pelican M.

I’ve started my fountain pen journey fairly recently. I’ve always liked them and found them interesting, and have owned one or two in the distant past, but really began to get serious a few months ago. My wife gave me a Lamy Studio that I began using a lot and spent time practising my handwriting with it.
I then discovered the fountain pen online community and became addicted to these fountain pen TH-cam videos. I have since bought 3 more pens, one of which is the Twsbi Eco. I love that pen! I thought I would use my Lamy for “special” writing and use the Twsbi for more mundane writing tasks, but I find myself really drawn to the Twsbi for all writing experiences. I have not seen the 580, but might check it out.

Seriously though. Be patient. It's nice to get a pen, and really we have to try to find out what we like. But I'd say define a set of parameters and buy within them, unless it's really unique. And like anything be disciplined. I say this not to curb your enthusiasm, but to avoid potential regret or guilt. At first we buy, buy, buy. We all know it's completely irrational. After a while we figure out what we like, but by that time we have so many pens, that we feel guilty buying "just one more pen for the month." The guilt wears off quickly, but that won't stop it from coming back at times.
i have found newbies start with fine nibs, and thinner sections, only to learn they like thicker sections and broader, stub nibs, but by that time they have pen cases full of pens. So really scrutinize what you like in a pen, especially the pen dimensions because comfort lies in the dimensions. You can always customize a nib, but not the pen body.
And finally always have a bottle of Waterman Serenity Blue. It is the ink of inks.
You didn’t mention in your video if you washed the new TWSBI out of the box. If you hadn’t, would that have caused skippage ?

Yep! I always do this, as my first fountain pan didn't write at all until I'd washed it really thoroughly.
Also I think a stub is going to be more sensitive to angle, so takes time to get used to
@@SeaweedKisses understandably so. But you put the nib in the whole ink bottle without flushing it first so any product process stuff got into the whole ink bottle now. Always better to flush the new pen, out of the package,first before inking it up.

What’s the name of that case? where can I get it from. Also stubs take a little breaking in to get your hand and way of writing. This is why I never give my top 5 favourite pens to anyone for too long because the nib starts to write a certain way specifically in your hand and it will take a while to adjust back to it…

I’m a leftie and it has never been a problem. I am an under writer rather than a leftie that writes over the writing.
Hmm, perhaps try an extra fine or fine nib. Ink matters along with the type of paper you use. You may want to look into a good notebook that requires little dry time for the wet inks.

I have 6 TWSBI ECOs & ECO-Ts (F & M nibs) and have never had any issues with the nib skipping. I second contacting the company to see if they can help you.

Hey, that was a great video. I love the 580's too, but the Ecos are my favorites. The 580's are a close second, though. Ecos are what I give to people first starting out with fountain pens. The stub nibs can't really be rotated in the hand the way that other nib sizes can and still write. And some ink just doesn't work great in some pens. The stubs can feel less smooth because, as I understand it, they often don't have tipping on the. However, with broader nib sizes, sometimes they can skip due to overpolishing, which is called "baby's bottom". However, with all of that said, I have a bunch of TWSBI's (they're my favorite brand) and they really shouldn't skip, regardless of nib size. Really, no fountain pen should, but TWSBI tends to have really good quality control. So make sure it's not rotating as you write, try different ink and different paper, but if it still skips, contact the retailer. From the video, it looked like it actually was skipping.

The 580 is the best pen for that price. The only pen that's writing smoother is my lamy 2000

You’re twisting the nib as you write. It’s important to keep the full flat edge against the paper.
