you should probably pin this (or make your own comment, however is fine lol) but the musgrave texture node was recently removed and just combined with the noise texture node. you can still connect the noise texture with another noise texture and the result is still about the same.
@CassBOTRR You are absolutely right, and I actually forgot I could make a pinned comment. I'll add one and change the description as well so that that will help. Thank you for the reminder!
All killer. No filler.
@JacobdelaRosa I'm so happy to hear you approve and find such value in this video. Thank you for your comment and support!
Probably my favorite tutorial on this subject. I’ve seen so many other videos, and while they were informative in their own way, yours truly captured EXACTLY what I was looking for!

This is quiet nice you make somthing as dounting as nodes easey
@RubberBeak I am so glad to hear you say that! It is my goal to make the shader editor easy to understand, and it means a lot to know that what I'm doing is helping you ☺️
fucking hidden gem, thank you!
@ruverq-visuals haha, I'm so glad you approve! Thank you for the high compliment 😁
3:55 So. Musgrave is gone but you can mimic the old texture in Blender 4.1. While following along I found unchecking Normalize on the noise textures helped get closer to the painterly texture. I think it might be my video card. TL;DR the settings provided weren't working for the brush strokes I just went lower or higher on the noise textures to get closer to the painted look.
3k subs! 🎉
@Lazy_Hanby It's blowing my mind how fast this community is growing, thank you so much for your support and excitement 😊
you're amazing
@ma_gician Thank you, haha, much appreciated my dude!

Coming up with 2 comments every month is gonna be interesting 😅 definitely worthwhile though
@nkanyisoinnocentkhwane3752 The speed may be a little slow 😅 But I will always give my full effort to bring you all the best quality video I can make. Hopefully I will be able to increase the rate soon, haha.
Can u please make a video on animating grass(anime style)
Thanks
Very informative video though....

god bless u bro 😭🙏🙏
@CassBOTRR God bless you too, my friend 😊🙏
Are these node setups something you learn by trial and error? Every time I watch a video like this (anything beyond a few nodes), I feel incredibly stupid.
@MrMcSnuffyFluffy First and foremost, you are not stupid 😅 I do a lot of trial and error combined with small "components" I learned from other tutorials on YT to make these shaders.
If you want some unsolicited advice to make your own unique shaders, the real trick is understanding how individual nodes work. Just focus on two or three nodes for a few days (like noise, gradients and the mix color node), don't be afraid to "break" the nodes; connecting inputs and outputs that aren't necessarily supposed to connect and mess around with the settings until you have a decent understanding of what each of them can do. If you do this I guarantee you that working with nodes will be much faster and more intuitive. And before you know it, you will be making node setups and shaders that would blow your mind nowadays.
I am very excited for you!! Keep learning, and you will become a master at this 😄
Amazing video as always.
I wanted to ask, is there any way to customize specular in anime cel shading that you showed (In the separate color thing)? Like which color the specular will be, where specular will be?
@rajabwali3373 Thank you very much, I'm so glad you liked it!
That's a really good question, and there is a way to have specular in the anime style only in specific locations and/or color zones. Unfortunately the explanation is too long for a comment, but I will probably do a video on this very topic soon 😁
How about a video where you apply those shaders to vroid studio character
@screenkiduniya717 That would be really interesting! This is my first time learning about vroid, I will have to do more research. Thank you for the suggestion 😄
I own a planet now, actually, several >:)
@randomperson21983 it will be, "the first Galactic Empire!" 😂
This is so helpful, but how did you figure all this out? There are so many settings to play around with, do you have a method to your madness, dude?
@mxhunterxx Thank you, I'm glad you found this tutorial helpful! Haha, it does seem like madness 😅 But I'm able to figure this stuff out because I've taken a couple hours to study and mess with each node on their own. I'm definitely not normally as organized as I am in my videos but the madness has become the method, so to speak. If you're wanting to make your own elaborate shaders like the one in this video, I highly recommend spending just a couple hours over a few days learning what an individual node can do, and soon, setting it up in a bigger shader will become second nature to you 😁
Would you just use texture baking and the game engine's shader to get this look for 3D game assets?
@michealbrown2547 Yes, texture backing and/or converting this to an image texture for the in-game engine bump map would be the way to go.
@ComfeeMug thank you so much! Loving your content, by the way.
Sir outline Not working in blender 3d model.. & cycles render.... What can i do sir???
Hi @kartikart3257 forgive me, I'm a little confused by your question but I'd love to help if I can 😄 Is something not working for you from this tutorial, or are you asking for a tutorial on outlines for cycles?..
After youve done more of what youre planning, would you perhaps see if you could make a tutorial for like the late 90s anime look? Ex. Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, and such.
I suppose its a more "serious" style, but its still very much anime!
@yeheed6607 I love this idea! I happen to really enjoy the 90s era of anime and would definitely be interested in making a tutorial breaking down the style and how to replicate it in blender. I am already working on tutorials suggested by viewers in the comment section, so I will add this video subject to my list! Thank you for the idea, I hope you stick around to see that tutorial on my channel 😄
Heck yeah! @@ComfeeMug
Can you tell me what to replace the musgrave texture with now that it’s removed.
@ShadowGaming42069 Oh yeah, you can just switch it out with a noise texture and it'll do the exact same thing 👍 Feel free to play around with the settings as needed.
@@ComfeeMug It didn’t work.
It looks like Blender combined the musgrave texture node into the noise texture node in 4.1. Would you happen to know a work around that or would I have to use a previous version to complete the tutorial?
@gmrz1100 Yeah, a really easy work around for this is just to use a noise texture in place of the Musgrave. You'll use the exact same settings for that replacement noise as you would for the Musgrave. You should get nearly, if not the exact same result 👍
@@ComfeeMug Thank you for the clarification! I'll check it out once I get home 👍
@@ComfeeMug Doesn't work - The result of Noise as Musgrave replacement with the same settings is wastly different
Yeah I agree.
Could you make a tutorial on making a metal shader?
@QuranicRafflesia Funny you should ask, that's literally the video I'm working on right now 😄 It'll coming out this Saturday!
@@ComfeeMug I'm excited!
I really love this. However, I think the mathematics can be "optimized" here. We do not need all these color ramps to set transitions of values, we can get even higher control that I personally find more intuitive using float curves. Also, we do not need mix color for the distortion control, vector math should be enough. Is there a specific reason to do it this way?
@Skybuildhero I'm really glad you liked the video, and I was very fascinated to hear your constructive critique! I know that I am not an expert, but I will always do my best to learn whatever I can. I would definitely be interested in trying your methods using float curves and vector math nodes 😄 I just make tutorials on the ways I personally know how to set up shaders, and if improvements are made and I aquire more knowledge, it allows me to improve even more upon my tutorials and the ways I teach. So, thank you for your contribution to that!
@@ComfeeMug I've played around with the setup a bit more and I think your nodes are better. I cannot really replicate the look with the nodes I mentioned. The only thing that I can replace is the color ramp node in the line "Musgrave -> Noise -> Color Ramp" that creates the brush strokes. We can replace the color ramp here with a float curve, since we are working with scalar values (i.e. numbers, 0 for dark and 1 for light) as opposed to real colors (3 numbers, RGB or HSV) or vectors (3 numbers. xyz). Putting a float curve in the spot of the color ramp and moving the nodes in the bottom left and top right inwards (while keeping them on the top or bottom edge, respectively) has the same effect. But I think the calculation here is literally the same, so it does not really matter which one we take. With the float curve one probably can get a bit better fine-tuning control, but... eh...
I am but a humble beginner and will keep learning from Comfee Sensei xD
@Skybuildhero Thank you for your reply! I am really impressed with how much detail and time you put into perfecting your craft and understanding the relationships between nodes as well as their differences. I never truly understood what the purpose of the float curves node was before you commented, and now I am very interested in implementing this nod into my shaders. So I must say, thank you for sharing your knowledge with me ☺️
As for the nickname, "Comfee Sensei," I find it rather funny and warm, so thank you for that. I really look forward to learning and growing our knowledge and understanding of nodes together, my friend. And I hope you continue on this journey with me 😁
Great Video, but would be better if just lower down music volume just tiny bit
@animeisaculture5556 Thank you for the feedback, this actually helps me a lot! I've been trying to figure out the right volumes to set the music at, so I really appreciate your comment.
Where could we get the shader
@quadsquid I am currently working on a shop over at my Patreon so that you can get this shader for a small price without having to pay for a subscription. It should be up in a couple days for you 😄
@@ComfeeMug oh ok good luck with your shop
