This MIGHT get me in trouble, but as an African-American gay man, I'm not against interracial relationships. My family is sprinkled with plenty of them. The two relationships that I have were interracial. The first was filipino, the second was mexican. "So, why haven't you dated other black men, Brent?" HONESTLY, it's not that I've hate who I am, as a black man, nor do I hate my fellow black gay men, or black men in general. But, the truth is, I've always been a little different. For much of my life, I haven't always gelled with my people. I love my culture, the contributions we've made to history, etc. However, for many of them, they've made it known that I'm not "black enough". I mean, they've said my name is "so white", they've joked about how I talk sometimes, some have even called me white. Like I said, I love my people, and I have plenty of close friends who are also black and gay, but I guess when it comes to being attracted to other black men, that's an area that has yet to be repaired in my life, even though I've been approached by other black men. I find myself more attracted to latino and asian men (hence my past two relationships), but I try my best to be open to whoever. What's messed up about about this, is that even though I've just about explained myself about this matter, somebody will still read this and ASSUME that I'm being racist against my own kind, and it's not the case. For me, it's more about who I relate to better, and who I seem to connect with better.

It's really none of my business who someone dates, but Derrick is a young black man and so am I, so I feel like he's part of the family. I can't tell him who to like, date, or be attracted to, neither is it my right. I think this recent upsurge of gays coming out in major sports around has nothing at all to our growing tolerance of them, nor any self righteousness on their part, but more to do with corporate sponsorship and celebrity wishes. We saw Michael Sam kiss his partner on TV after a game, making sure it was caught on TV. This basketballer is being humped by an established celebrity twice his age. just to get more in the public profile. People like this make me sick.
