    Glitching speedruns are cool, but I like seeing people work within the more intended boundaries the game developers created.
    Also find it really funny that I came to this video after seeing a video about Dynapoly Corruption Wrong Warping, and the guy that did the glitchless speedrun WR also discovered one of the most significant glitches in this game's speedrunning history. Truly a master of the game.

      @@Solbashio I never said one is harder than the other, all I said was this type of OoT run is better for MY TASTE, the true world record nowadays is just nonsense to manipulate the code, YES IT IS VERY HARD, I KNOW, but was the audience its so lame lol. Speedrunners are insanely skilled, but I prefer THIS type of run to watch unfold.

    I like glitchless more, instead of just doing some random glitches that make no sense to the average viewer, you can actually follow along and see how fast this game can beaten properly

    Why not use the bombchu to light the skulls eyes in dodongo’s cave by throwing them at a specific angle on the wall? I saw this in other speedrunners videos was wondering why you didn’t use it to go faster?

      Need bombs for the rest of the run. Only 10 chus are available and nearly all are needed for other things as well.

      The trigger for light arrows is simply having shadow and spirit medallions, you don't need them all. Presumably the developers assumed that having those two implies having all the rest, but of course with speedrun techniques they were mistaken.

    great video but i'm confused. Why is this considered a glitchless run if you do things like getting through the gerudo gate in ways that are not intended with a chicken? isnt that considered a glitch? i mean its clearly something the developers do not want you to do.

      Glitch does not mean deviating from intended paths. Glitch means breaking the tools and mechanics the developers give you so they no longer work as intended. Everything in this run uses mechanics which are working exactly as intended (such as gliding with a cucco to extend my jump) in order to go as fast as possible, regardless of how the game expects you to use those mechanics.

      The lines between glitch, exploit, and oversight are indeed blurry. Especially in a game as busted as OOT.
      For example, consider power crouch stabbing. Using it technically constitutes as using a glitch, but it is unavoidably baked into an intended move you can do. If you ban power crouch stabbing, you ban crouch stabbing entirely. Which doesn't seem quite right given the move's presence is very intentional.
      I think the _general_ the rule of thumb the OOT community is using is "if the means isn't glitchy, neither is the end". If you use intended mechanics, working as intended, to get an unintended result, that is considered an oversight or exploit, not a glitch

      Anubis enemies only die to touching fire, and they move in a mirror pattern to link. I maneuvered it into the flame circle.

      We don't. Those things aren't on the same spectrum. You might use glitches in order to perform a skip, or you might not. Any and all skips are allowed in this run, it is an Any% category after all. If some content besides simply beating the game was required, it wouldn't be Any%. If a skip is only possible to perform by using glitches, then you need to find a way without glitches in order to use it in Glitchless runs.

    I do enjoy this. But the loose definitions for what glitches, exploits, and tricks are is somewhat annoying. Like the gerudo bridge skip is a glitch for sure xD

      Everything has very explicit and strong justification for being allowed. Jumping over the fence uses no glitches, and in fact uses only the very intended mechanics of gliding with a cucco, and so doing it is not a glitch in and of itself! The whole idea of the category follows this logic. Skipping things isn't inherently a glitch, it all depends on the mechanics involved in performing it. No glitched mechanics can be used. For example if we clipped through that same fence, or used a megaflip to get over it, that would be banned! Hope that helps make the run a bit more understandable, we have a pretty self consistent definition for how the rulings work.

      @dannyb21892 This does help a little bit. But I still feel like jumping past things that weren't ment to be jumped by is sus in a glitchless type run. Like the second gate skip in gerudo is sus too. I mean ya you used only things the devs put in game but still seems exploity. I mean no disrespect. What you do takes incredible skill and is to be admired!

      @@riftnilf5917 thanks! The reason we designed the category this way is that it is generally very clear what sorts of mechanics are glitches or not. But there are hundreds of small obstacles and barriers in the game of varying importance. Should we be forced to complete every single room in every dungeon that is ultimately unimportant, but intended to be required? Even if it takes very little effort to bypass it? Or do we try to make some arbitrary distinction about the relative importance of various skippable things, and only allow skipping the minor ones? Doing that opens up a very arbitrary can of worms where few people would agree on the outcome, but also banning every single skip would make for a pretty boring speedrun with very little room for creativity or progress. So setting up the rules like this makes for something both reasonable, consistent, and super interesting!

      The jump off the tower just goes right over the ladder and doesn't touch any walls. The jump back to the ground right after that does pass through a wall, but it's not a clip. All collision is only one directional. Coming from the other side is not a clip because there is nothing to bypass. You're meant to be able to pass from that direction.

    Why do glitchless runs allow using chicken to jump fence at gerudo valley? if devs did not intend for that area to be accessible early, then its a glitch or bug... same with jump boosts from explosions, or using deku stick to increase sword damage, its an unintended design flaw... and how does Sheik show up during young Link?? early bombchu might not be a glitch but, u add all these together and it certainly seems like cheating and breaking the game lol... ur basically out of bounds when clipping to enter shadow temple early

      OoT's definition of glitchless is entirely based around the mechanics involved in accomplishing something. Damage boosting isn't a glitch because damage is meant to push/throw you exactly as it does, and so we can use it to do anything we like. Getting to gerudo valley isn't a glitch, but the technique you use to accomplish it may or may not be. Since we can accomplish it without any glitch mechanics (just gliding with a cucco) it's allowed. Shiek shows up as young link simply because the requiem cutscene is tied to leaving spirit temple for the first time at any age. This outlook makes for much more interesting speedruns where we don't have to make assumptions about what the devs did or did not intend for player progression. Of course skipping anything at all, no matter how small was not intended. So it would be very arbitrary to pick and choose what we are allowed to bypass based on some imaginary importance we assign to it based on how severe the skip is. But by basing the rules entirely around mechanics, we can make objective determinations about what should or should not be allowed, while also making the run more interesting to play and watch.

      @@seanbowen811 we do our very best to make sure no glitched mechanics are ever allowed in the run, including going to the source code to figure out exactly how stuff works when it's unclear. The one exception is actually one you pointed out in your first comment, storing damage and using it with the sword, a technique called power crouch stab. This is allowed as an exception because there is no such thing as a stab attack which has a "correct" damage value/type. It's fundamentally broken and always takes on the properties of whatever was the last attack performed. So our choices were to ban the act of stabbing your sword, or just allow it as it is. We chose to allow it since banning a whole attack seemed too silly.

      @@dannyb21892 funny u say the sword damage is "broken" but imo going out of bounds (whether skipping the gerudo fence, or climbing walls to enter shadow temple) seems way more broken imo lol
      Im not very knowledgeable in glitches or the differences in the 3DS remake, but nintendo does (sometimes) try to fix glitches in later releases of their games, and I wonder if they would have fixed any of these things if they were able to
      whether using bombs to jump boost or a chicken to scale walls/fences, I doubt nintendo intended young link to access gerudo valley early, and the idea of getting bombchus without even having the bomb bag seems very very broken and unintended especially considering sheik showing up
      I also wonder if fans could make there own hacked version of the game, fixing things such as raising the fence at gerudo valley, if that would make for better (or more challenging, depending on how u look at it) runs at least to those of us who dislike the idea of glitches or skips all together

      Not for the rules of this speedrun category! You may not perform any glitches in order to get out of bounds, such as clipping through walls. But if it's possible to get somewhere without any glitches, then you are allowed to be there in this run. In other words, just existing somewhere doesn't count as a glitch under this ruleset, regardless of whether you're meant to be able to get there.

    Abkürzungen zu verwenden, die so nicht vorgesehen sind zählt also nicht als Glitch? ich mein ob ich mich durch einen geschickten Sprung direkt in Ganaons schloss porte oder irgendwelche versperrten WEge überwinde um in den letzten Tempel zu kommen.. das macht für mich am ende des Tages keinen Unterschied...

    What would it be called for a WR attempt with no cheese tactics and no actual glitches ?

      The way this run works is that skipping something can not be a glitch. Maybe you perform a glitch as a means of skipping something, maybe you don't. But glitches are game mechanics that the player utilizes, not things that the player doesn't do, even if the standard sequence means for you to do them.

      honestly, I'm not watching the gameplay most of this run, I'm watching the inputs and the memorization of every skip, every setup, every frame perfect inventory management. this is an incredible glitchless run. watching the game be run backwards isn't a big deal when most of us have watched this game be beaten forwards thousands of times over

      ​@@IndicatedGoodLifein the first one, the shadow door only exists if you walk down the stairs. I jumped over the stairs, so the door isn't there.
      In the second one, I'm not going through a wall, only a texture. The wall ends below me, and the part that looks like trees isn't a barrier at all.

      @@IndicatedGoodLife in both cases there's literally no wall and therefore no clipping. It's ok though if you think those situations are strange for other reasons though, such as being in a state where the shadow door is not present to begin with. You wouldn't be alone in that thought even among some speedrunners. There are great justifications for every allowance though, and they've all been voted in by a majority of the speedrunners involved so trust at least that it makes some sense haha.
