It was built in 1928, but mainly came into use during the 2nd world war. When it was rebuilt for use by the coast guard watching over the convoys preparing to head over the atlantic to supply the uk with foood and fuel. In 1940 2 U boats where spotted by the coast guard in Rubha Hunnish, who phoned down to Oban. Sunderland Bombers where launched and the U boats where sunk. This took place in a 2 week period. After which the German Wolf Pack was formed and they lay in wait in the northern atlantic, waiting for the convoy to leave the Minch. Sadly this only changed the fate of the convoy. Not in the minch but in the North Atlantic. The Lookout has a huge place in the history of the start of the second world war.

Was there this past weekend, during a circular walk to take in Rubha Hunish and Ben Volovaig. Didn't realise you'd done a video on it - I definitely got the better weather!
Another Great Video Ben You Have Inspired Me Over The Last Few Months To Get Out And See Places Not been As Far Afield As You Go Yet . But The Lomond Hills In Fife Are Huge And a Great Place To Explore. Thank You
Outstanding Ben! Breathtaking views! The sound of the water in the channel over the stones was fantastic. I wish I could have had the smells as well. Thank you for making this wonderful video, very enjoyable! Sincerely, Ossie
I love how you called that " precipice " at the start of the walk " a path " and didn't you feel like Moses at the parting of the waves standing there in that channel ? It was awesome. As always, your video was interesting and informative. Why don't you have your own Tom Weir type programme on telly yet ? Oh...and just wondering.....When you sign visitor books do you sign as Blethering Ben in case we are out and about so we can recognise your comments. :-)
I think I'd be having delusions of grandeur if I felt like Moses but I see your point ;-) I usually sign as Ben Dolphin and occasionally plug the blog shamelessly ;-)
