I hear ya! I dabbled in Praying Mantis in the 1990's ( Henry Poo Yee's lineage), but i couldnt keep up with it.
You know when you start practicing the style and you begin to see the animals where you go everyday. Like butterfly mantis

It is not a style. It takes 5 forms to make a style. The 1st level is 5 animals. Each one can have 20 forms to practice tha build chi with practice. None of the Northern forms do that
Thanks for this video, i spent 2 years in 1982 1983 learning Praying Mantis, but long ago old age and some body weight i cannot loose has made me forget this, i love seeing this, you are so awesome with it. I do love all your videos but this one brings back memories.

Studied Tang Lang Mantis in Toronto....good vid....i like to do finger pushups myself. One day after training ..sitting at my trailer and found a small Mantis sitting on my shoulder.....had a great conversation.......maybe it thought i was one of them......😀

It is believed that the strongest styles of animal imitation are the tiger, dragon, white crane, snake and leopard. Shaolin masters have chosen these five styles as the main ones. Why isn't the praying mantis style in the top five wushu styles? Perhaps it includes some disadvantages?
It's dependent on who is using the style not the animals
I first saw this on marco polo and fell in love. Ive combined it with fist to cuffs style and krav. More or less picking what i like and find useful and throwing out what i dont
Has made for a rather effective combo. Woulsnt be allowed in rings, but im not one who fights for money. Simply defense.

Praying Mantis is a Northern Shaolin flowery form. There is a Southern Mantis ptactice and taught in My Jung longhorn but what you are doing it strictly inforerior to Southern kung-fu since in Southern there is no Mantis Mantis style and it is not a part of the 5 animals of Southern Shaolin[ dragon, tiger, crane, leopard and crane. these take a lifetime committment to learn one unless taught by Black Dragon. But your nmantis is not martial art or wu shu
