  • My skoolie project was STUCK! The electronic motor that operates the driveshaft brake was not working, so I devised a way to release it with a threaded rod and two sections of flatbar. If I need to apply the brake again, I can use this system for that purpose also. Eventually, I'll install a standard foot-operated brake lever from the junkyard to circumvent the electronic motor altogether!

Thank you for uploading this video. I have a similar bus in my shop that’s killing me it has so many brake problems. I started backing the cable out of the parking brake cylinder and stopped because of how much tension was on it, worried I would release it and it not let the drum loose anyway. I hate the Wabco HCU they are garbage the entire system is trash and someone could make a whole business designing and marketing a complete retro kit to convert these shitbox MFers to air.

I have since installed a foot-operated brake. Found the lever in a junkyard, got a new cable from NAPA, then connected the system to the original cable with coupling I fabricated. Works like a dream.
I'll try to get it documented and uploaded ASAP.

Ah, the old SAHR parking brake system. I much prefer air brakes over this overcomplicated hydraulic crap.

Me too! 😄 I just finished circumventing the entire thing with a junkyard-purchased foot lever and cable.
