VIR Supermoto - Track Day
After skipping the SMEC round at VIR due to rain (and expense), I was happy to get some time on the track to switch things up from offroad riding.

The series' sixth stop was my second. After stripping most of the threads of my axle nut just moments before the start, I removed the axle washer to catch a couple new threads and decided to apply my throttle and rear brake gently. To my surprise, the wheel stayed in place and I was able to ride out the entire race! In fact, I was able to make my way into second place in my 40 C class! The more...

The 2023 season ended with a serious wreck, requiring replacement of bars, radiators, and plastics on my YZ. Once those were replaced I wasn't exactly eager to get back on the bike, allowing it to sit idle for the winter months. With absolutely ZERO time on the seat (and a fractured foot from lowsiding my KTM on the road), I decided a calm, reserved approach would be best for the first race of ...

2010 IC CE-300 Parking Brake Release
มุมมอง 7327 หลายเดือนก่อน
My skoolie project was STUCK! The electronic motor that operates the driveshaft brake was not working, so I devised a way to release it with a threaded rod and two sections of flatbar. If I need to apply the brake again, I can use this system for that purpose also. Eventually, I'll install a standard foot-operated brake lever from the junkyard to circumvent the electronic motor altogether!

At the start line I talked with my fellow racers for a few minutes before we set off for three 10 mile loops of the newly-cut trail. As usual, I was kickstarting while most of my class took off, but with a long section in the field, I was back with the group before entering the woods. The course was extremely fun - high speed with good grip and sight lines. During the first lap I picked off a f...

For whatever reason, my YZ was not in the mood to race. The usual start sequence is slowly kicking over the engine a few times to "prime the pump" then one or two kicks at top dead center and it's ready to roll. Not this time, though. With three people taking turns and a few slight sputters to give us hope, we must've kicked that damn thing 200 times! Luckily, my friend Todd saved the day again...

After pedaling the mountain bike in West Virginia for the past three days [and sitting out the last two harescrambles], I was a bit curious how rusty I'd be once I threw a leg over my YZ. Luckily, I adjusted to the feeling of the dirt bike within the first lap and actually felt relatively fresh despite the hours I'd logged on the mountain bike. The bike started on the second kick and I entered ...

Hello, what service manual did you use? I am looking to get one on ebay but they all seem small.

nice bro
Sick video! Coming for the festival for this weekend! Any recommendations for good gravity trails?
Moon Hoodoo is our personal favorite, but there are other great ones to try. If you drive along the Canaan Loop Road, you will have several loops to choose from. Download mtbProject or Trailforks ahead-of-time to help you navigate. If you're setting a shuttle, there are a few trails from the Loop Road which will take you into Canaan Valley Resort State Park and/or Blackwater Falls State Park. Otherwise you can create circuit rides which will loop back to the road.
The last time I rode the Hellbender Cirque it seemed to be overgrown, but hopefully the festival will mean it sees enough traffic to be clear. www.mtbproject.com/trail/6364700/hellbender-cirque
@@sweetschoolbus awesome!!! Thanks for the rec ! I’m stoked
Someone on a mountail bike could get Overall.....lol
KLRs are a dog and you have heavy hard luggage on too. Get a T7.
I'm on the Vstrom. Even heavier than my buddy's KLR! Glad to have graduated to the KTM Exc-F 500 I have now 😁👍
Thank you for uploading this video. I have a similar bus in my shop that’s killing me it has so many brake problems. I started backing the cable out of the parking brake cylinder and stopped because of how much tension was on it, worried I would release it and it not let the drum loose anyway. I hate the Wabco HCU they are garbage the entire system is trash and someone could make a whole business designing and marketing a complete retro kit to convert these shitbox MFers to air.
I have since installed a foot-operated brake. Found the lever in a junkyard, got a new cable from NAPA, then connected the system to the original cable with coupling I fabricated. Works like a dream. I'll try to get it documented and uploaded ASAP.
Ah, the old SAHR parking brake system. I much prefer air brakes over this overcomplicated hydraulic crap.
Me too! 😄 I just finished circumventing the entire thing with a junkyard-purchased foot lever and cable.
Man that's freaking awesome bro! Definitely putting in that work 💪
I rode there on April 28th, 2024, for the first time. The trails are fantastic and there are enough short climbs to make these trails challenging and fun. I've been off the bikes for a bit and these trails let me know my fitness level was not up to par. Will keep hitting these trails until I can rip at least two laps without flatlining.
You should try westveiw

Thanks! I've actually healed from the wrist operation, now I'm down with a fractured foot after a motorcycle mishap - that's life!
you have more problems with this type of foam insulation than you can imagine. nightmares are coming at you so heads up.
Uh oh! Please do tell 🙏
@@sweetschoolbus"IF" and "When" you have an electrical, lighting, window, or framing type problem (especially electrical) how do you do you plan on getting access to it with this Hard Foam Insulation. You cannot find the problem. Very difficult situation you are in.
That's a fair concern, but the positives of having the wiring secured in the foam (less susceptible to the vibrations of a vehicle) as well as the protection against condensation behind the walls and the added benefit of another structural & soundproofing member convinced me this was the way to go. You're right, though, time will tell 😊👍👍
don't they usually cut foam with a hot wire?
I considered that, but never got around to rigging something up. Would've been tough on the curved ceiling anyway.
Could of went to lee and had just as much fun
Lee Canyon, eh? I'll certainly give it a shot if I find myself out that way again. Thanks for the tip!
I liked watching the process. I had a short bus sprayed and the guy spraying had a helper, that trimmed it while the other guy was spraying. Took them a little longer, but it was ready to go when they left.
That would've been great! The trimming was a chore, but the company actually gave me a great deal since they'd never sprayed in a bus before.
Well done, most people don't show the trimming process. We are not doing spray foam so I won't get to experience this.
It was a TON of work, but well worth it. I like that it will serve as a structural member also, further strengthening the 18 Ga. sheet metal skin.
good luck with recovery from surgery and on the bus, be nice to see when finished...
Thanks, Lauren! I'm actually back to work already - trimming spray foam now and looking forward to mounting the walls & ceiling 😁
All credit to you and your friends for your hard work and ingenuity. I wish you success! 😄
Much appreciated! 😊
lots of wiring - getting closer. one suggestion: the wire coming up from the floor and splits left and right should be in a box. you aren't supposed to bury wire connections in a wall and cover. if you look at Chuck Cassidy's bus wiring you'll see every wire termination is in a box, very clean. otherwise looking good
Looking good
Thank you very much! Just had spray foam completed, next video as soon as I'm done trimming it 😁👍
Hope your surgeries weren't too serious. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Oh yeah, I'm back in action again😁 Thanks for the support 👍
Hey How long is this bus exactly ?
And the height after the raise , can you go underneath bridges ?
It's just under 40ft bumper-to-bumper, and about 11'6" tall right now. Eventually will be about 12'6" once solar is installed.
Pipe channels for the wiring ..with junction boxes…. Access to the wiring will come in handy later …
I'm following chuck cassady's method of encapsulating the wires in spray foam. Hoping the forethought was thorough enough and I'll have power everywhere it's desired. I appreciate the advice, though 😊👍👍
@@sweetschoolbus It was just a suggestion…. Because Accidents do happen. … like a. Tree falling in a storm .. and hitting a spot where your wiring is located …. …. Or doing upgrades /renovation.. .. I. Ran all my wiring under my floor boards with access panels .. came in handy when building storage compartments underneath…. Have a fun. Day. Awesome job by the way …. Oh. Yea another suggestion… put a deck/storage rack on the roof …. I had a hammock and fire pit on mine. It was. Great. !!! lol
Thank you very much! So great hearing from the skoolie community all of these helpful hints and encouraging words😊
Looks like you have your power pretty well figured out. How many panels are you going to have on the roof?
I seem to be able to find 350-400W panels on Facebook, so I'll lay 3 sets of 2 (wired series, then parallel) for 2100-2400 watts.
It’s a big project and I can see your vision. It will be so worth it when done. Pace yourself, take more breaks. Thanks for sharing.
Flattered 😁 Much appreciated! Got a mental boost from all this positive reinforcement, can't wait to get it foamed!
Very nice. Your attention to detail is second to none. Can’t wait to see what it looks like when you’re finished. Best of luck I’ll probably still a lot of your ideals. Lol
Thank you very much! So far it's going as planned, very excited to have the walls and ceilings up. Stay tuned!
Did you have the cylinders bored and go up a size on the pistons???
No, just smoothed out the intake and exhaust passageways. Otherwise no increase in displacement.
@sweetschoolbus it's pretty important for good compression especially on two strokes when you have scored pistons and cylinders. At 06:55 you can see a scored piston.
@@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel oh, shit. Yeah, you might be right. I'll look into that. Thanks 🙏
Awesome job !!
Much appreciated, Philip!
Damn bro hope your ok I always like watching these different bus builds
Oh yeah, only took about a month to heal and I'm back in action. Thanks!
Great video... Man that's a lot of work.
Thanks, Bobby! The kinds words are great motivation!
good luck on your recovery.
Thanks! I'm largely healed and back in action already. Only kept me from the project for about a month.
Schoolies make EXCELLENT Rv, HOWEVER it is almost impossible to boondock with it because once you add a modification as you have or paint it a different color EVERYONE knows it has been converted into an Rv. Its too late for you but what others should do is---- DO NOT modify the body & keep it schoolbus yellow. You can boondock in school parking lots. Thats about the only place you can boondock anywhere else and everyone knows you are sleeping inside. !
Good point. We're expecting to be in National Forests and Parks once we hit the road, but I'm sure you're right that we'll have to boondock some in between those stops.
Niiiice!!!!
Chuck Cassidy has a lot of good information on bus builds. Thank you for the detailed walkthrough of your wiring.
hate raise te roof
Was the sheet metal untreated?
It's called galvannealed steel, so it's rustproof and ready to paint. Great stuff!
I watch a lot of DIY camper type videos and this is the first one where I heard the person building swear. I know from personal experience working on that swearing is actually mandatory in DIY projects. This is the most "relax channel I've found. Love this video.
Thanks, Shawn! I'm so self-conscious of my narration, so it's nice to hear that others are enjoying it 😁 I just filmed my electrical wiring recap, so expect to see that edit soon 👍
Hope your surgeries were successful and that you are back to feeling better. Don H Ocala Fl
Thanks, Donald! You may have noticed the wrist in a splint when I was showing the strapping. That was one of the surgeries...and yes, I'm back in action! Prepping now for the spray foam insulation, hoping to film some of the wiring I've completed for the next video 👍
Can't wait to see when complete
