Two CSX Trains Trying To Race Each Other In Same Direction

- This is a video I made in Folkston Georgia near the Folkston Funneland the train viewing platform of two CSX trains on different tracks racing in the same direction before the funnel. A rare catch.
in March of 2014, I was on the north bound Auto Train that was running at the time about 30 mins behind schedule. we raced side by side with a CSX freight for several miles at track speed all the way through Folkston before he branched away at Folkston. I took several photos of the lead GE that was right outside my window. I didn't want to use my flash not wanting to blind the engineer since it was at dusk, so they came out a little dark, but what a sight it was.
That first train beat the hell out of the second one, good luck catching up to them.
+Millenniumforce *Viewing this one three and a half years post hoc:* Dispatch must've been trying to expedite a lot of freight into Florida that day. The second train kept a specific trail distance on the first, eventually to slow to change tracks upon reaching the Funnel.
If anybody had any plans to sleep late this morning, they can forget them-two sets of train horns blaring more or less simultaneously will see to that!
Unless this was filmed at sunset, then everybody’s like “Eh, whatever!”
JCX Productions Thanks for that! I included either option because I wasn’t sure of the direction and was taking a quick break from my work at the time. Better to cover all the bases than to make an inadvertent gaffe!
I saw a Norfolk southern at the bowling tracks
Two tracks.. straight stretch.. flashing greens. Time to haaauuuulll ass
Awesome Video Alan! Nice catches!
I thought for sure that pickup truck at 2:50 was going to be hit by the second train.
Nice catch, Alan. If that first train had been slower, then you might have seen a side-by-side 'drag race' through Folkston. Keep up the great work, and I'll be waiting for August 1st.
First train was clearly winning
it's like NASCAR for locomotives..
For me, it's like me trying to catch up to my friend!
Sweet horn on the first train
Thank you
Happy Birthday Again CHOO CHOO
As long as the crossing gates don't go up for the two trains going in the same direction means the other train can have plenty of time to catch up and pass the other one
It would have been awesome if they had been closer together
Yes Thank you
That's a perfect catch!!!
Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for that info to all
nice and awsome
Yeah the forked off up the track 1 mile away. One went straight the other took a side split off
what was with the ditch light it was like extremely slow and then normal and the speed varied so much
Excellent word!!!!
Both signals were displaying an Approach Limited
nice video and catches!
That train going real fast 60 mile per hour
Thank you August 1st In A Diaper chasing a train LOL Stay tuned
When did the csx train broke in half
I deliver to that Tonys right there. The tracks were removed about 3 months ago, thoughthis track was located in North Riverside, Illinois and went to Forest Parki think csx left those signals up because the line would have a use again and why does csx own this lineawesomeVIDEO SPECIALCaboose and Locomotivetake the highway to a new homeSpecial VideoThe opening and ceremony of the Train Viewing Platform in Plant City Floridau do know u have 2 tell da sky 2 get out of da way u know XDWhat are the odds of that happening?
Nice catches Alan!
Nice catch i have a video just like this one but the trains were side by side
Yes yo are right I will try to catch it one day
What are the "clear" green single Light Flashes For At the beginning ?
Cool.
Approach Limited - going by speed signalling. Google it for more information.
Thanks!
I will be in disneyworld area in a couple months. Hope to catch a train
How do you mean???
That intermodal was flying! How fast was that train going?!
And it was a limited clear signal.
I think the speed limit going through Folkston is 60 mph. not sure though, only been there twice.
Got to love the k5hl's
Clear signal, track is clear until the next signal. Google train signals for CSX.
Wow!
I had the same thing happen, and i was lucky enough to be out there to catch it.
One was on a clear green, the other on a yellow going into Jax Intermodal Ramp in Jacksonville, Dinsmore area
That was epic
did the railroad crossing go up after the 1st train and then down again for the 2nd train or did it just stay down AFTER the 1st train went by?
CincyBus it stayed down the entire time.
yellow, flashing green, red means ''Approach Limited''
Good catch.
First engineer was way better then the second. Horn wise that is
Happy Birthday
The two locomotives race together who wins
What dose a flashing green light mean?
First train went green fast
nice
Wow
Wow
Wow
Wow
REEEEEE
brrrrrr
Just a quick question! WHat's The Funnel that the trains had to go thru?
A section of track that comes together for awhile then splits of two separate ways with heavy traffic
+Millenniumforce is the Folkston Funnel the connection of the A line and S line or some other lines?
ddme098 no they split at Callahan. Folkston funnel is for the line that goes to the giant Waycross yard. (Trains like Q452/453, Q652/441, and other trains
cool
Btw where is this?
Folkston Georgia
CSX intermodal won the race
what does the flashing green mean?
The aspects represents an approach limited.
Happy bro
Try taping from the other side of the tracks next time. Better lighting
Wait, the first CSX train was going 80MPH or 60MPH???
+Elisamuel Rivera the ones that go through Lebanon Junction going south, they go 60 MPH.
It be cooler if they was side-by-side.
What are the odds of that happening?
Higher than winning the lottery I would assume.
races actually happen a lot in Folkston, Georgia. just usually not the same direction with the same signal indications on both tracks. most of the time two trains end up racing and then one takes the turnout off the Nahunta Sub to the Jessup sub.
your welcome
And the scound
someone was a bit late
Container stack train ' hands down over hopper"express"!
Eww Medium Approach Medium!
Approach Limited for both - yellow (not red) over flashing green, I can see how you might see that as red in the video - (Approach next signal not exceeding Limited Speed [45mph]). My guess is that the intermodal train just finished passing the hopper train, and will cross over in front of the hopper train at the next, or a second interlocking. They don't "race", and it's not a demo derby. While a signal like that usually means a train would cross over at the next signal, CSX sometimes uses signals like Approach Limited/Approach Medium (yellow over non-flashing green) in place of signals they don't display in a territory (like Advance Approach - be prepared to stop at the second signal), to give either fast or heavy trains extra time to prepare to stop when signal blocks may not be as long as usual.
Oh ohk. That makes sense.
medium approach medium is red, yellow, flashing green.
this is approach limited: yellow, flashing green, red
I went on a train at a train station
go to my channel and watch the lewis center train one not the gregory rd one the double stack one
m
they are not racing each other fool.
it wasn't racing because Q038 at St mary river pass the rock train
