Thank you for this review. New Jack City, Boyz N Da Hood, Juice & Menace II Society is the Mount Rushmore of hood classics. They taught us life lessons, launched a lot of careers & still talked about 30 years later after their debut.
Fun Facts: Wesley Snipes & Bill Nunn were also in Mo’ Better Blues & Money Train. Bill Nunn & Michael Michelle were also in Def By Temptation & Allen Payne & Chris Rock were also in CB4.
Nino Brown was an iconic character. I put him up there with any all time great gangster in movie history. Wesley did his thing. Chris Rock did his thing. Allen Payne did his thing.
Remember when Martin spoofed the all black table scene on that episode where he was accusing everyone of stealing his little $400 CD player? That damn, stuffed Rottweiler!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀💀💀
Especially after laying that guilt trip on him right before he went undercover. Also G-Money was stupid to but a recovering crackhead in the supply room with the dope!
Great review. In my opinion, this movie is a masterpiece. Also, i.m.o, Wesley Snipes' performance in this film is equivalent to Al Pacino's performance in "Scar Face". Pure greatness. . . . . He really embodied that character of Nino Brown. What a classic. Possibly, Mario Van Peebles greatest film.
Nino did give a little exposition regarding his relationship origins with Selena. During that argument they had, he said that she gave him books to read (maybe a pet project "I can save the inner city boy and change him"). LOL He gave her a life of excitement because she was the proverbial "poor little rich girl." Nino said that her dad was a doctor who was cheating on her mother I assume with his fellow staff members at the hospital he worked at (doctors, nurses, etc...) and her mother was a kleptomaniac stealing shit out of Macy's. Maybe they met by chance when she wanted to get away from her elitist life and come to the "hood" to live a little, I am speculating.
I remember reading that Mario Van Peeples wrote the character of Keisha for Rosie Perez. She turned it down because she didn't think the character had any growth.
I love the way you laugh and bring down into song with your reviews. You sure can sing and make me laugh. Wesley Snipes and Ice T are such an iconic actor duo playing the enemies in the movie.
This film will always be a classic. I was just watching your Sugar Hill video recently and this movie compared to NJS are opposite when discussing Wesley Snipes and the characters he portrayed in both films. Sugar Hill was a mixture of NJS and Jason’s lyric, but the plot twist was Nino Brown opting out the drug game to live a normal life. New Jack City will always have a dope soundtrack. Christopher Williams was in this movie and provided a song for the score 🤣.
I became aware of you & this channel thanks to Reel Shift Joe. I am loving your reviews & Channel. I have not seen New Jack City since the early 90's but after that slammin review I am going to re-watch it rn. Thanks Struggle, you rock. 💗
