I remember that episode of the Talking Dead. Thought just because the producer said that Daryl isn't gay doesn't mean that he might not be bisexual. I disagree, that's norman's thoughts, the one calling the shots are the producer/director/writers and they certainly love to take us on a roller coaster. They were never close before everyone got split so it was an experience to get to know beth especially when she was the only connection that he thought was left to his family/group and life at the prison.

That's definitely a possibility, people seem to think the world evolves around the gay-straight binary when really there are a lot of other orientations out there including bi-sexual. Personally, I sometimes think of Daryl as an asexual character and I think that suits him well. But whatever happens with the character in terms of orientation or love interest won't faze me.

If the writers are planning to pair Caryl romantically it should happen is season6, if not then I don't know.
Daryl is the only character besides a grown up Carl that I believe could competently lead the group if (GOD FORBID) anything should happen to Rick. I mean, I definitely hope with all my heart that Rick lives to the end of the series and comics, but the way things have been going in both universes, I have a feeling that his character is going to eventually be killed off or somehow retired. With every loss and story arc, his humanity, morals and energy to go on seem to be slowly fading. He managed to survive without Lori and even Judith for a while (both in the comics), but the way the story keeps pushing him, at some point he's going to wear out. I think losing Carl would be his last straw. He's becoming a bit like Kenny from season two of the Telltale games, more primal and closer to the edge. He hasn't let the world break or tire him out like Kenny yet, but how long realistically can that last? Rick Grimes will always be a strong symbol of resilience and hope in both versions, but no one in TWD stays the same forever.
I know that, just pondering on who else could lead the group long term. And while he is not dead yet, I have my doubts that the story's going to end with him as an old man sitting in a rocking chair at the zombie apocalypse survivor retirement home while buff adult Carl handles everything in his place. The creators of the comics have noted that Rick will likely die at some point, it's just a question of how. All I know is, it better not be in some dumb way that totally disrespects the value of his character. As for the show, I'm sure Andrew Lincoln will stay on for at least a few more years, though you never know what can happen with actors.
I don't think Daryl would lead honestly. As much as he cares about everyone, he cares a little too much now and sometimes in seeking everyone's vote before going ahead with everything is hesitating too long, where Rick sometimes just does things and it ends up being the right thing for everyone. Or Daryl will lose too many people he cares about an will decide he would rather be by himself than see another person he cares about lost, he takes too much upon himself and blames himself too much when something bad happens and I think he would feel like everyone is better off without him. He is a loner at heart after all. Carl I think would be a good replacement if anything happened to Rick though but he would need someone like Daryl around to keep from going overboard. At least Daryl and Rick can really remember how life used to be, as it Carl, it will be harder as he gets older, making him a little more prone to lacking compassion. But that is just my take on it.
Very well thought out, I certainly understand where you're coming from. I think the way the story is going, where all the most good hearted or innocent characters die at some point (Morgan's son, Axel, Hershel, Beth, etc.), the group is eventually going to shrink down to the darkest, most hardened survivors who have the least amount of innocence and humanity left. At that point, these emotionally jaded veterans will be put to the ultimate test to find hope and good will without the brighter characters they once had to guide them. Rick, Daryl, Carl, Carol or whoever's left will have to be their own moral compasses and decide once and for all if their compassion is worth all the pain and loss that comes with it. That will be the greatest challenge, I think, when Rick will have no one to steer him toward a certain path and must define himself on his own, which will also be a major step in guiding Carl. That's really the true plot of TWD, not just how the adults survive in the present but more how they will raise the children and who they will be in the future.
Nah, I think Daryl and Carole are actually a couple and have been for a long time, only they just never made a big fuss about it and all the action happened off-screen. There's been a lot of hints to it, things they've said and small gestures they've done. But I like that they're playing it down. This isn't a romance show.

There has been questioning for some time on Daryl's sexuality and the writers and creators have actually asked Norman about the idea of 'prison gay' who agreed to being totally up for whatever they throw at him (despite rumours saying he isn't; they're not true.) There is actually a character is the comics that Daryl Dixon is supposedly based off of named Jesus who i believe was gay and very similar to Daryl's nature. I can see the exploitation of Daryl's sexuality happening and actually being a great story arc, after all we've never actually seen him show any real emotional or physical attraction towards someone... so why not bring a dude along? (I get shippers don't want this to 'sink their ships' but i don't see why it would? You can chose to ignore the character development, say he's bi instead or whatever, but just don't complain about it. It's rude and makes you sound homophobic).

Didn't JK Rowling say that the reason that Dumbledore was gay "came out" (excuse the pun) was because the film writer wrote a line for him referencing a girl he once fancied. She then scribbled "Dumbledore's gay" on the script when proof reading and sent it back. A few months later it was in the press. It was never directly stated in the books. JK Rowling also said she had a history for Mcgonagall, that she had had an affair with a muggle and then lived as a celibate teacher. Neither story was important to the plot and Harry's story, so it didn't get put in anywhere.

You know, strangely, I can only imagine Daryl's sexual orientation being homosexual. I don't know what it is but I just don't think he'd suit the heterosexual orientation as much as he would the homosexual one. Would make somewhat of an interesting plot design for the character, too.

I disagree, that's norman's thoughts, the one calling the shots are the producer/director/writers and they certainly love to take us on a roller coaster. They were never close before everyone got split so it was an experience to get to know beth especially when she was the only connection that he thought was left to his family/group and life at the prison.

i wouldnt mind if Daryl is gay but there's really no reason for them to make him gay other than to appease the LGBT community. besides, they'd alienate his massive female fans who account for a good portion of the show's ratings. most of them wouldnt have a problem with it but it'll kinda kill their fantasy. on the other hand what woman would he hook up with? its gotta be between Carol and Beth cause those are the only two with whom he let his guard down. although Carol and him are really about the same age she looks considerably older (she looked more like Sophia's grandma than her mother) and in the show she was more of a mother figure to him (at least in S2). and i see his relationship to Beth as more of a big brother. there's just no good match for Daryl on the show right now but its not like his character has to have one. keep him single for now

That's definitely a possibility, people seem to think the world evolves around the gay-straight binary when really there are a lot of other orientations out there including bi-sexual. Personally, I sometimes think of Daryl as an asexual character and I think that suits him well. But whatever happens with the character in terms of orientation or love interest won't faze me.

Daryl is the only character besides a grown up Carl that I believe could competently lead the group if (GOD FORBID) anything should happen to Rick. I mean, I definitely hope with all my heart that Rick lives to the end of the series and comics, but the way things have been going in both universes, I have a feeling that his character is going to eventually be killed off or somehow retired. With every loss and story arc, his humanity, morals and energy to go on seem to be slowly fading. He managed to survive without Lori and even Judith for a while (both in the comics), but the way the story keeps pushing him, at some point he's going to wear out. I think losing Carl would be his last straw. He's becoming a bit like Kenny from season two of the Telltale games, more primal and closer to the edge. He hasn't let the world break or tire him out like Kenny yet, but how long realistically can that last? Rick Grimes will always be a strong symbol of resilience and hope in both versions, but no one in TWD stays the same forever.

I know that, just pondering on who else could lead the group long term. And while he is not dead yet, I have my doubts that the story's going to end with him as an old man sitting in a rocking chair at the zombie apocalypse survivor retirement home while buff adult Carl handles everything in his place. The creators of the comics have noted that Rick will likely die at some point, it's just a question of how. All I know is, it better not be in some dumb way that totally disrespects the value of his character. As for the show, I'm sure Andrew Lincoln will stay on for at least a few more years, though you never know what can happen with actors.
I don't think Daryl would lead honestly. As much as he cares about everyone, he cares a little too much now and sometimes in seeking everyone's vote before going ahead with everything is hesitating too long, where Rick sometimes just does things and it ends up being the right thing for everyone. Or Daryl will lose too many people he cares about an will decide he would rather be by himself than see another person he cares about lost, he takes too much upon himself and blames himself too much when something bad happens and I think he would feel like everyone is better off without him. He is a loner at heart after all. Carl I think would be a good replacement if anything happened to Rick though but he would need someone like Daryl around to keep from going overboard. At least Daryl and Rick can really remember how life used to be, as it Carl, it will be harder as he gets older, making him a little more prone to lacking compassion. But that is just my take on it.
Very well thought out, I certainly understand where you're coming from. I think the way the story is going, where all the most good hearted or innocent characters die at some point (Morgan's son, Axel, Hershel, Beth, etc.), the group is eventually going to shrink down to the darkest, most hardened survivors who have the least amount of innocence and humanity left. At that point, these emotionally jaded veterans will be put to the ultimate test to find hope and good will without the brighter characters they once had to guide them. Rick, Daryl, Carl, Carol or whoever's left will have to be their own moral compasses and decide once and for all if their compassion is worth all the pain and loss that comes with it. That will be the greatest challenge, I think, when Rick will have no one to steer him toward a certain path and must define himself on his own, which will also be a major step in guiding Carl. That's really the true plot of TWD, not just how the adults survive in the present but more how they will raise the children and who they will be in the future.

Nah, I think Daryl and Carole are actually a couple and have been for a long time, only they just never made a big fuss about it and all the action happened off-screen. There's been a lot of hints to it, things they've said and small gestures they've done. But I like that they're playing it down. This isn't a romance show.

To those of you complaining that the idea of Daryl being gay just came from nowhere... it didn't. There has been questioning for some time on Daryl's sexuality and the writers and creators have actually asked Norman about the idea of 'prison gay' who agreed to being totally up for whatever they throw at him (despite rumours saying he isn't; they're not true.) There is actually a character is the comics that Daryl Dixon is supposedly based off of named Jesus who i believe was gay and very similar to Daryl's nature. I can see the exploitation of Daryl's sexuality happening and actually being a great story arc, after all we've never actually seen him show any real emotional or physical attraction towards someone... so why not bring a dude along? (I get shippers don't want this to 'sink their ships' but i don't see why it would? You can chose to ignore the character development, say he's bi instead or whatever, but just don't complain about it. It's rude and makes you sound homophobic).

Those books were littered with subtle undertones. As for not watching the show if Daryl is gay...that's just stupid. Didn't JK Rowling say that the reason that Dumbledore was gay "came out" (excuse the pun) was because the film writer wrote a line for him referencing a girl he once fancied. She then scribbled "Dumbledore's gay" on the script when proof reading and sent it back. A few months later it was in the press.
It was never directly stated in the books. JK Rowling also said she had a history for Mcgonagall, that she had had an affair with a muggle and then lived as a celibate teacher. Neither story was important to the plot and Harry's story, so it didn't get put in anywhere.
